Chaplain Octavian
dude these models are sweet and I really do like the scheme that you have going on. I can't wait to see what the finished master of the forge looks like! I was just wondering; what you were doing with the scouts with the pinned arms? I was just wondering; what you were doing with the scouts with the pinned arms? master of the forge will see more action once the 2nd techmarine box arrives :) the pins are the armature for the sculptwork, i wanted to repose them instead of having 4 of the same pose for the "sarge" models working on the necron army right now as seen here: http://www.gamesummit.ca/forum/viewtopic.p...91&start=10 hoping to get it done by the end of the month...its for a friend its not mine...done not including the rods and glow i have to add after we get the rods ^_^...we may use blue ones but ya so updates on the marines will be a little slow for the next week or so thanks! Starks333
Got the bases in so i decided to move things forward...got the rets to the brown stage, only things missing now are the two scout bikes im waiting for, and the 2 HQs the rest has been highlighted and can now have salt removed...the scouts on the left still need the cloth done with the tan colour though http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll18/BionicCow/Scorpions/100_5743.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll18/BionicCow/Scorpions/100_5745.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151906-desert-scorpions/page/4/#findComment-1966594 Share on other sites

Starks333
well a picture one no ^_^ not now atleast i dont have anything to sculpt one on but a word one sure -armature wire -apply GS over -magic sculpt a basic "cylinder shape" -add on some putty flatten and smoothen, then use a knife to create the individual fingers, dont need to be super clean -once it dries use a sharp knife to clean it up making it crisp...if you need to use a fine sandpaper(400-600grit) to sand the cylinder to smoothen further Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151906-desert-scorpions/page/4/#findComment-1966645 Share on other sites
Starks333
SO i scrapped the captain metal body and decided to mod the FW one, and do something nicer and simpler the MotF model is now all pinned, just need to do some sculpting, and more patch work the chipping went well, i screwed up on the drop pod and accidently rubbed off some chunks as the water got under, but i will cover it up and repair it with some other techniques...the speeders look great, i still need to wash off some of the salt stains tho, it didnt clean great on some of them http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll18/BionicCow/Scorpions/100_5756.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll18/BionicCow/Scorpions/100_5755.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll18/BionicCow/Scorpions/100_5753.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll18/BionicCow/Scorpions/100_5754.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll18/BionicCow/Scorpions/100_5751.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151906-desert-scorpions/page/4/#findComment-1982632 Share on other sites

Karitas
wicked models looks like verdigris :) Looks like good old fashioned salt masking to me, (please correct me if i'm wrong) the basic idea is to create a series of random "holes" in your topcoat that resemble chips / age what i always used to do is slap on a layer of a deep terracotta red, starks ere has gone for a brown which looks wicked with his topcoat. once that is dry you use a nice temporary adhesive ( i used hairspray) to blast a few areas and sprinkle salt crystals on. these will be held there by the hairspray while you airbrush on your topcoats, maybe even some basic shading. once youre happy with that you wash off the salt/hairspray and you are left with a weathering effect as above. i'm pretty sure thats what starks has done, there are tutorials around of you google "salt mask weathering" this one for example discusses using a much "wetter" salt mask than i've ever tried. i used to use large rocj salkt crytals as chips, but like most things experimentation will lead to good things ;) (edit - i hope no-one takes offence at me answering a question directed at someone else, if its an issue let me know and i'll remove the post. sorry) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151906-desert-scorpions/page/4/#findComment-1983331 Share on other sites

LunchBox
Alrighty then... Well, I hung out with Jeremie a little yesterday, and I'm still punch-drunk from watching him work. He 'touched' a couple of models of mine, and worked miracles in just a minute or two. He said my blends, and pallette were very good, but I needed to sharpen the highest points of light. We also discovered that I am thinning my paints too much, and the glazing is actually holding me back. So...I actually put a solid basecoat on a model yesterday! Scary, huh...
