Justicar Valius
 I'm lucky I've never had that happen to me before, maybe I shouldn't keep my super glue near me incase of breakages while painting.... I say have him taking a reaper autocannon slug in the chest for a higher up standing next to a marine.
Vadskær
Good evening all, Thanks for all your comments and suggestions Gents! The mood is a bit better now, and I like some of your suggestions in turning the Ogryn into a wounded bodyguard/meatshield. However, that will have to wait for another time since I don't have the energy or motivation for such a project now. I've dug into my chest of mini's and found three new ones to begin with - a fresh start, with no accidents  Right now I'm painting Sgt. Harker for my IG squad (who can readily double as a grumpy battle brother who's found a couple of gretchin trying to steal his power-armour and then procedes to borrow the closest heavy bolter for imediate disciplinary teachings unto said gretchins. I'm also working on my Scout Sergeat Tellion, which will be in DA colours. I've filed off the Ultramarine symbols so it'll fit in nicely. There's actually a small story to this, since he will be used to represent the sole scout sergeant who survived our epic 8000 pts. clash a couple of weeks ago by digging so hard into the ground that he weathered a hail of fire from bolters, snipers, heavy bolters and the vengeance from squad of Grey Knights. He then proceded to allow a close draw with our opponents. Therefore, he will be given some nice gold bling on his armour. Last, I've found the OOP Sicarius model with twin lightning claws, and am painting him in his classy Ultramarine colors. I will try to follow the 'Eavy Metal masterclass for the new Sicarius model featuren in White Dwarf. Cheers, /vadskær PS: Anybody know how to strip paint from a resin model without damaging the resin?
Vadskær
Good evening all! Here's an update pic on my project mentioned in the above post. I've just lined my three current projects and I really like working on such different models. It really helps keep the creativity and sharpness in focus, since you always have to change and adapt to new contours, paints, colours and details. The cloak on my Telion model will have some city-themed camouflage and the pants on my Gunnery Sergeant Harker will also feature some stylized camo-patterns. Sicarius will just look nice and bling'y. Enjoy! /vadskær

It's for my Venerable Dreadnought from FW. I've posted pics of it earlier in this thread but I need to strip it, since the undercoat I used was really bad and left a textured surface on the resin. Again, thanks! :-D
pattison
EPIC FAIL! ^_^ :) -_- Aaaargh! I just ruined a weeks worth of work! Hey man, don't be so disappointed! I understand that this can be very very frustrating, but I always try to believe that every mini has it's own fate. This ogryn got seriously hurt (either by psy, frost or some tyranid slime) while you can still see how excellent the paintjob is, and it screams for a diorama! I know you're an extremely precise painter, but try to make this situation into an inspiring one. Looking forward for it! ;)

Thanks for the inspiration and kind words all - it helped to get past that epic fail of mine. /vadskær
Vadskær
Please sir may i have the reciepe for your ultras blue! please!!! Hi ironbear, Sure thing - it's nothing magical, since I swiped it from White Dwarf. My model still needs step 6 to 8 from the below. Here goes: 0: Undercoat: chaos black 1: Basecoat with Mordian Blue 2: Two layers of Regal blue 3: Shade recesses with 1:1 thinned mix of Regal Blue & Chaos Black 4: Highlight with 1:1 Regal Blue & Ultramarines Blue 5: Highlight with pure Ultramarines Blue 6: Highlight with 1:1 Ultramarines Blue & Space Wolves Grey 7: Final highlight w. pure Space Wolves Grey 8: Tidy up and sharpen your lines. Here's another one for your poor Ogryn. Do a google search for cyanoacrylate solvent. I've successfully used some to remove some superglue from a pewter model with no ill effects. The stuff doesn't just dissolve the superglue but it did loosen it up so that I could pull it off. It will probably ruin your paint job but with a little work you should be able to get all that extra glue off.
Creutzfeldt
To save your orgryn you always could use some acetone (nail polish remover). It will take off superglue and any paint it touches with minimal effort. Just submerge an old toothbrush in acetone and scrub the model with it. Kable
Hey Vadskær Always good to see more of your painting projects posted up. The three models look great and especially the older Sicarius model which i look forward to see the finished product. Just for fun I'm painting up an ultramarine using your recipe for the blue. One question with step 2, Do you thin down the regal blue at all during the painting?
Vadskær
@ Creutzfeldt: Yes, I had considered acetone, but I'm worried about ruining the whole paint job. I think I'll give the alien slime-idea a try, and if it doesn't turn out good, then I'll give him a bath with acetone :D @ Kable: I always thin down my paints, especially my foundation paints. They are so rich in pigments, that it really doesn't hamper their covering-ability to add 5 drops of water to the bottle :D Game-weekend comming up soon now - on Friday we'll probably do a 4000 or 6000 battle (3x2000 points), so I need to assemble a couple of IG heavy weapon squads, so there won't be much painting until Sunday. /vadskær
husi2100
i dont know if simple green works on resin, you should try it on some small piece, cause you dont want to destroy your +26£ dreadnought!
SnorriSnorrison
Hey Vadskær, I´ve tried your UM Blue recipe on my librarian because your Captain Sicarius looks incredibly gorgeous, but it didn´t turn out as well as yours. :P By the way, if I am not mistaken, you can just scratch the superglue of the miniature. Sure, it will tear the paint underneath it, but that would also be the case if you bathed it in acetone. I used my hobbyknife several times to get rid of superglue dried on the wrong places - just a thought. Snorri

Wonderful news - I need to get some simple green then! That might prompt me to get a fresh start with my venerable dread, instead of it just sitting in my cabinet half-finished :D Update on my three figures will follow soon. The Harker model is really comming along and Sicarius will get some more highlights this evening. :)
Vadskær
Greetings all, Okay, after a wholly unproductive week I've just finished my Gunnery Sergeant Harker model...which I can alternate between using as an Imperial Guard special character and a Space Marine Devastator/Heavy Bolter-battle brother. Since his massive heavy bolter "Payback" obscures a lot of detail, I've taken a few shots of him before attaching the weapon, so you can see the fine details of the sculpt. The model was an absolute pleasure to paint, and it was a nice challenge to paint such a large area in skin colour. I've added a bit of beard-stubble to his chins and concentrated on getting his musculature highlighted nicely. The base is a new one for me - from Secretweaponminiatures. I've purchased several bases from that site, and I will use these trench themed bases for my whole IG force. As a finishing touch I added a bit of MiG dry mud weathering powder on the base and on his boots. Enjoy the pics! C&C always welcome :) /vadskær

SnorriSnorrison
Hi Vadskær, love what you did to Harker - he looks much grittier and even more like a badass, thanks to your paintjob! :( The skin is really nice, would you mind to share the recipe? And I hope if you don´t mind if I try the camouflage on my scouts. :tu: Great work! Snorri
Vadskær
Hey all, Thanks for the replies - I'm happy you like Harker, as I'm quite proud of the way he turned out. I'm back to some Power Armour now - my Sicarius is next up, but first some comments about the skin recipt for Harker. I basically followed Anja Wettergrens recipe from WD, Space Hulk issue. Starting from a base coat of chaos black (as always) i did the following: Basecoat with 1:1 mix of Tallarn Flesh and Dark Flesh Heavy wash of watered down Dark Flesh I then did a couple of thin layers of Tallarn Flesh to build up the colour A further build up of a couple of thin layers of 1:1 Tallarn Flesh & Dwarf Flesh I thinned the above into a glaze and used it over the whole skin area to tone down the shadows and crevases (sp!) a bit as they seemed quite harsh (that is the problem with using a recipe for a face for a whole body - you need to put in some steps to make the whole look nice. A face is small and usually quite textured with lots of details which can take heavy shading, but it will look out of place on a muscular torso) I then did a couple of thin layers of dwarf flesh before I started highlighting: 1:1:1 mix of Tallarn Flesh, Dwarf Flesh and Bleached Bone. I added more bleached bone to the above and continued highlighting. A final highlight on some of the most prominent points of his face was done with pure Bleached Bone For the beard, I added some Adeptus Battlegrey into my mix and thinned it quite heavily before carefully applying it on the cheeks. Afterwards I did a bit of re-highlighting to get it right. I also used Orgyn Flesh and Gryphonne Sephia where needed to further enhance the skin or tone down a highlight a bit. The eyes were a pain in the ass as usual, but they were painted black, dottet with white and then again dotted with black for pupils. @Snorri: please do steal my camouflage pattern - I also think it would be quite appropriate for scouts  It's basically just a codex grey underneath with patches of chaos black, vermin brown and shadow grey, which was then individually highlighted where appropriate :P /vadskær
Vadskær
Ladies and Gents, I present to you: The Uber-posterboy Himself, Mr. Sicarius, Ultrasmurf incarnate :P Here's my finished version of the out-of-production model with twin lightning claws. There was also a banner to go with him, but I plan on using that for a different model. I think the model is ironic in the coolest sense...look how he has a long, thin scar down his face and deep slashes in his right leg armour. Obviously he tried to pick his nose but sneezed at the same time and got himself into an accident with his lightning claw...hence the scar! His leg-armour was torn open in an attempt to swat an irritating bug and now he's standing with a resigned look on his face and wondering what the Hell made him want to do a Shrike imitation for the annual SM carneval :) Anywho, the model was a great challenge. I followed the recipe for the 'Eavy Metal Masterclass for the new Sicarius model, which focusses on a deep blue with sharp, crisp highlights. The model was somewhat difficult to paint, since one of his arms was attacked and his head also. I would have liked to have him in a few more parts. Enjoy and leave some C&C :) /vadskær
