Black Hands Captain

Recommended Posts

Well, in case you have trouble designing them, I have a mini tutorial up in this thread http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=176911. Just don't hijack the thread.

I can also transfor this sword into a full power sword, though it will be hard to make it a one straight blade, but I can always try.

I'll cut out a giant cleaver soon :P

It lives! It walks!

Rivets are done on the plates, maybe I'll a a few smaller ones at strategic locations on the legs.

No I just need to GS some ribbing, add the armoured skirt and knee plates, pin/magnet the feet and devise some sort of detail for the left plate.

Oh, and the right plate is getting some cogweel stuff in a bit.

He is a tad larger than normal marines, not much, just a head or so, mostly because of the straightening.

And someone, somewhere asked for a size shot of the sword:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/brother_beork/Commissions/Black%20Hands%20Captain/100_7668.jpg

Yes, it's large, no he doesn't have size issues. Complain about compensation when he sticks it down your throat.

I redid the torso, this time using plastic strips instead of filing a way chaos icon. It makes for a smoother finish.

Now just to add some vents and other nice details.

rivets on these rims to slash?

wow that sword is HUGE! thats one beast of a power weapon! my only grip is that it looks peculiar with the 2 types the way they are.... maybe if the blade was socketed into the area where the chain blades come out it might make more sense in my head but its still awesome!

also as a side note, is the sword going to be duel wielded? or just carried in one hand? and then what will the other hand be doing if so?

The Captain will be modeled striding, with a rather large sword on his shoulder and his left arm pointing forward.

He will be slightly larger than normal marines (aided by the upright stance) and should look as if he is advancing while directing his marines to the enemy.

As a requested option, the right arm will be replaceable with a power fist/claw with attached stormbolter.

He should convey both a knightly feel and a techy feel.

Some bionics will be included but not as abundant or visible as with my Ironbound.

There ye go, Marshal, there's your answer

Great work Beork! I love your work and seeing this has motivated me to call on you for a commission for a chapter master, captain or summt at a later date ^_^

Considering that the right arm should be bionic, and that it will be magnetised, I wanted to add a distinguishing feature which would also make it easier for me to hide the magnet socket.

Thinking back on one of my older models, I came up with this.

the necklace part is not yet glued, not sure about that yet.

  • 2 weeks later...

The new version of the sword is awaiting production. I made a vector image of some seperate parts and they will (hopefully) be milled this week.

I did a small mock-up of the combibolter fist:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/brother_beork/Commissions/Black%20Hands%20Captain/000_0055.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/brother_beork/Commissions/Black%20Hands%20Captain/000_0054.jpg

I think it's a bit too beefy.

I saw a multibarreled powersfist bolter a while back and liked the design a lot, so I think I'm going to make a small mock-up of one of those.

I also have a pose picture.

Not much more done yet, very busy with my new (and very demanding) job.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/brother_beork/Commissions/Black%20Hands%20Captain/000_0049.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/brother_beork/Commissions/Black%20Hands%20Captain/000_0051.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/brother_beork/Commissions/Black%20Hands%20Captain/000_0052.jpg

He is mean looking now isn't he?

The arm is pointing a bit too far away from the body in my liking, but I'll fix that soon.

The greaves look very small and fat in this picture, while they aren't that bad at all. I'll take some new pics once I'm a bit further with the pointy arm.

Tubes to be added soon.

There are conversions and there are CONVERSIONS and that man is one hell of a CONVERSION. Love your plasticard work and your painstaking attention to detail.

Have to agree with other posters. That sword looks more titan-esque than for an Astartes, but that's my taste.

Can't wait to see the end result.

This is the pose I'd like him to have. Minor tweaks to follow.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/brother_beork/Commissions/Black%20Hands%20Captain/100_7705.jpg

He needs his pointing arm straightened, head properly aligned and bolterfist needs some love to.

Are you looking at me?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/brother_beork/Commissions/Black%20Hands%20Captain/100_7709.jpg

Originally the pointy hand would get a claw treatment, meaning the hand would get clawlike fingers and many powercables. While I still like the powercable idea, I'm having second thoughts about the claw. With the head he is looking somewhat chaosy and as he's supposed to be loyal, the claws might confuse people...

Then again, it woould look cool.

The sword has been outsourced to a mate of mine with a CNC mill. Let's hope he can make a nice, quick copy.

Making the vectorised image was hell though, I'm not made for graphic artistry.

Looking great brother. Keep it up, I'm really digging the pose.

Good work on the vector too, I know how much of a pain in the arse they are to make.

I think you're also right about the Fist. The Storm Bolter looks a bit blocky or perhaps too bulky? I think the actual fist is nice though, in the perfect pose too!

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, Beork, but for those who are interested, here is the original (new) Sword design, un-vectorized:

Thanks again Brother. I'll be away for a few days (1st year Wedding Anniversary), so I won't be able to answer any questions (Not that you need me anyway, you seem to read my thoughts on a regular basis.)

I always thought the final fantasy techie sword would look cool on a space marine. If you could pull it off I think you'll have alot of others making them as well. The build is coming along great. Can't wait to see it finished.

Gone ahead with the storm bolter placement. Doesn't look like much but was more work then shows (the aligning of the magnets just kept going wrong).

There will be a plasma pistol option as well, and enough cables to make a Iron Hand want to humb the arm.

Work is slow at this time, my eldest son is a tad sick and we are not getting much sleep.
