Lamenter
Hey guys. I've been posting a lot of this actual scale stuff on Warseer, and decided it's about time I bought this to the attention of the real Space Marine experts here at B&C (for some proper constructive criticism). I started up my own website (see sig.) to showcase the work I've done and hopefully track progress as that work improves. To start with I guess I'll show my latest two conversions, Vulkan He'stan and a Vanguard Assault Marine in MK VIII armour. I'll be painting Vulkan at some point soon, in the same style as the official model. The MK VIII has already been sent to the client, who has promised photos of it when it's painted. http://www.masteroftheforge.com/images/july09/vulkanfinished/vulkan01.jpg http://www.masteroftheforge.com/images/july09/vulkanfinished/vulkan04.jpg http://www.masteroftheforge.com/images/july09/vulkanfinished/vulkan07.jpg http://www.masteroftheforge.com/images/july09/vulkanfinished/vulkan08.jpg http://masteroftheforge.com/images/july09/vulkan2.jpg scale comparison shot http://masteroftheforge.com/images/june09/errantfinished4.jpg commission piece There'll always be more pics and info on my website if anyone wants a closer look. Also got some progress on the widened backpacks a like so much :D for the second MK V squad I've currently got in progress. http://www.masteroftheforge.com/images/july09/oldstylebackpack.jpg This will be the standard backpack for my MK IV to VI marines. I'm gonna produce a standard conversion for the MK II & III aswell. I'll try and keep this thread going with updates to ongoing actual scale projects. Higgins
AMAZING! the assault marine is my favorite! not only are the modification jobs amazing (the vulkan beats the games workshop one hands down!) but the poses are perfect! awesome work!
Hubernator
Fantastic work mate, really good quality stuff here. Your Vulkan is one of the better ones I've seen so far, nice job :D

Bigger-than-Jesus
That Vanguard pose is, emmmm, borrowed lol. I'm definitely gonna follow this thread as along with Synapse, DH and Apologist this is fairly inspirational (and bad for my long suffering wallet)

Metal Apostle
Hot damn! Excellent sculpting! Especially on how clean the vanguard is! :) *wipes off drool*
Tyrannicide
Fantastic work, particularly your true-scaled adaption of Vulkan He'stan. What blade did you use for the Spear of Vulkan? Is it the power sword from the Captain that is included in the Black Reach box? It's a great choice, that fits perfectly for a glaive.
Terminatorinhell
man thats how a space marine should look!

I've bought 3 of them so far as I want to use them as alternative blades on my GK Nemesis Force Weapons.

Garden Ninja
Very nice conversion there. I do like the Vulcan, and the Thunder Hammer marine looks so dynamic.
Terrible_Trygon
Ah, it is nice to see these chaps again. The Vulkan came out excellently. We need more Actual Scale Special Characters out there. I was thinking of doing Khârn myself at some point. Though, whilst I love how the Mk 8 Marine looks and all, the fingers on his right hand could be done a lot better. Captain Mike
Gasp  Best True scales I've seen. And there are some amazing ones out there. The level of detail on Vulkan.....

Lamenter
http://www.masteroftheforge.com/images/july09/workbench1.jpg This is the work in progress on a second Mark V tactical squad. Still in the early stages, but starting to come together. Hoping to have this finished by the end of next week. When this one's done I'm going to make a start on an in depth tutorial. I'm not going to go too in depth into how I'm doing these as I'll just end up repeating myself in the tutorial. http://www.masteroftheforge.com/images/july09/workbench2.jpg I did find that cutting a groove into the greaves is a great way of creating the smaller knee pads of the Mark Vs. The first squad of Mark Vs used the legs with knee pads that were then trimmed down. I think this approach works better. The torsos are obviously off of the assualt marine sprues with cabling added. They look suitably bulky when done like this, although the skull symbol need removing to be replaced with a vent.

Lamenter
How many of these did the chap commission? Almost 40 including Terminators, Scouts, and vehicle crew. I think he's crazier than I am ;)

I think he's crazier than I am ;) No, because he got you to do the work for him! Joking aside, I love your work. Your gs skills in particular impress me. Someone was recently suggesting to me that I should try adding my own jump-pack straps using gs, and I recoiled in dismay at the suggestion. Your pictures have made me think again (although for how long I know not). Also: have you ever tried using brown stuff? It's like green stuff, only brown; and it dries harder, giving you cleaner edges and other advantages. I just thought that some of the stuff you're showing us here might be easier to do with properties like that. ;)

I wanted to feel I had some understanding of how best to use GS before moving onto other materials. One of the things I've struggled with is fine sharp details (damn fingers) so that's one of my priorities.
Drexsun
Lamenter, Wow man.. I really like the greenstuff work.. I want a unit like that.. could you make me one and stuff lol.. commander alexander
Your GS-work looks amazing  ! Its even, consistent, smooth, and "flows" with the models pose and feel ;) . Very cool B) .
Commander Sha'son
I love seeing bad@$$ conversions. You have definitely swung for the fences with these. The Vanguard marine is a favorite of mine, especially in the "true scale" department. How do you get your GS so smooth? Is it a scraping and shaping process after curing? Or is it acheived during the sculpting?
