Iron Snakes Battleforce WIP

Recommended Posts

I've finished off a combat squad now, I'll post some pics shortly. I was wondering if you guys could advise me on something though. I saw the new LOTD models and was blown away by the sergeant model so bought the box, took him out and managed to sell the rest on ebay for £18 :) I'm planning on using him as a chaplain, but was wondering about how to paint him up. What would you thoughts be on a chaplain model which wasn't painted black? I was thinking of painting him silver like the rest of the troops. I just wanted to see if this was straying too far from convention?

True they are my models but I do want them to fit into the fluff as well. I'm torn about this, but I'm saving the model for a bit to give myself a goal to work towards!

Here's some pics of the combat squad:

after reading the book i also started my own Iron Snakes chapter and have also whanted a chaplian to lead them so what im doing is keeping his armor black except for the left shoulder pad im going to paint in the snakes colors. as for spears iv still havent found anything i realy like. i have used a few of the undead skeleton spears at the moment for the file marines. great army id love to see more as you go on.

First attempt at a scout, base coat only, ink to follow shortly:

What do you think?

Edit: Just saw this thread and really blown away by scouts with full helms. What do you guys think? I'm tempted to pull the heads off the scout squad now as I'm not a big fan of the sculpts.

having read the book i believe the snakes are the sea going creatures (thier name eludes me)

so...

i would trim the 'flaps' from the cobra head and i think they were armoured sea snakes, so replace it with some green stuff scales

other than that these are being awesome....

spears ( rohan ones from LOTR range ) were the ones i was gonna use, but they strike me as a bit flimsy, they came bent in the mail order box

Absolutely right, the 'wryms' are sea creatures, I think on reflection that a more generic crozius is probably the best way to go, so I'm gonna dig through my bitz and see that I can come up with.

Also all of the scouts are now headless! I'm trimming some Mk7 helms down and will post pics asap.

Hey, looking really nice so far. Like the idea for the crozius top.

The scout looks good too but I would really reconsider the head. Having a marine helmet on a scout body looks really out of place. If you want helmeted scouts have a look at the chaos warrior helmets (minus the horns/spikes) they are a much better fit for the size and style of the armour.

Otherwise a very nicly done army and I look forward to seeing how the chappy turns out.

Oh no...that sucks bad. Well you can try creating your own shields with plastic card, shouldn't be too difficult. I'll try and find a tutorial for it and then i'll post it here.

Yes, I really like those lances! hope they're not too big for PA marines B)

Can't wait to see the Chaplain!

Oh, but I'm not sure I like those helmets...try chaos marines helmets, they go better. I remember on the old GW websit they had a tutorial to make helmets for BT novices but as they've changed the whole site, they've deleted the tutorial. Stupid really as it was really good.

Hey, thanks very much for the feedback guys!

I've put in a bits order for the lances so lets hope I don't have a repeat of my luck with the shields! I'll post a size comparison so you can see how big they were tonight. Alongside that will be the top of the crozius, so I'll post a wip of that as well once it arrives.

I know the helmets on the scouts are a bit controversial but I really like them so I'm sorry but they're here to stay!

Straw poll, after the scouts what next?

1) 5x Tac Marines w/Sergeant, Flamer, H.Bolter

or

2) 5x Assault Marines

No problems about the scouts. They're yours, not ours. We're just here to give you feedback.

Hm...well, I haven't heard Assault Marines mentioned in Brothers of the Snake, but I like the idea ^_^

Can't wait to see more.

Well to be honest I'm not being 100% fluffy, I am going to have apothecaries in each squad but not with the full gear, just a load of pouches and a GS medic symbol.

As far as assault marines go, perhaps not present in Brotherhood of the Snake, but who's not keen on the idea of a rocket powered sea lance?

Chaplain Group Shot:

Not too sure about the banner pole on the chaplain, think it might be a bit OTT for a chappy?

Feedback much appreciated! :)

Quick update, Chaplain and 5 x Tac marines built (Sergeant, Plasma Cannon, Flamer, Apothecary & Auspex), going to base + spray them tonight, then hit GW in Manchester tomorrow to get them painted up. Pics to follow after that session! Scouts are 95% basecoated, so going to hit them with some ink tonight as well if I get a chance. :)
