Iron Snakes Battleforce WIP

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Thanks very much for the feedback, I'm quite happy with the freehand and armour, I'll be putting more effort into the characters and squad sergeants. I might try a blue wash on the armour to see if that benefits it.

The shields have arrived but they are massive, far too large for PA marines, so they'll have to wait for some TDA!

If you want PA sized round shields check out the warhammer dwarf warriors shields. They're the right size for what you want, besides, your freehand skills looked adequate enough to do your own designs on them.

Hey,

Sorry it's been so long since the last post guys, I've been a bit busy at work and then got obsessed by Warhammer Online for a bit! I have been working on the Snakes a bit more now, the next 5 Tac marines are nearly done and I've also built a rhino, venerable dreadnought and kitbashed a plastic librarian together. I've got some pictures but I've lost the cable for my phone, so I'll upload them as soon as I find it!

Out of interest, any suggestions as to how I can incorporate silver armour onto a Librarian? I did a silver skull for the chaplain and I'm wondering if something similar would suit the Librarian.

Your thoughts?

Thanks again for all the feedback so far and your patience with my tardiness between posts!

Where the heck did you get that psychic hood? I WANT ONE!!! :)

It's a shaved down marine shoulder pad, the technique was first seen on this very site, too.

Absolutely spot on, it was actually really quick to do as well, must have taken all of 5 minutes to cut out and file into shape!

Did a bit more work on the Venerable Dreadnought last night, here's some WIP shots:

Still a long way to go on that obviously! I've done a bit more work on the libby too, I'll take some more pics later once I've finished messing about with it! :P

Nice, nice. Did you have a look at my suggestion for the dwarf shields?

I got my filthy, cheese dust stained hands on one of the new ven dreads, too. Cut up the finger son the "human hand" dccw hand and will model an eldar/dark eldar model of some kind being crushed to paste.

My camera takes too long to charge, so I'll have shots on my wip thread tomorrow, check it out and let me know what you think of my boys.

Hey, I looked at the dwarf shields but decided against it in the end because they have molded icons on them and celtic surrounds, so not really fitting unless I'm not looking at the right range.

Going to finish off my Librarian and get started on him tonight, more pics later.

Forgot about the molded icons, I just filled them off. I perhaps should have mentioned that, eh?

Hey guys, just so you can see how I'm getting on, I took a quick group shot this morning. So quick in fact that I forgot to include a landspeeder which is basecoated now!

I've started building a second tac squad and the librarian is pretty much ready for paint. I think I'll save the shields for the assault squad or maybe some assault terminators. I've also started working on a conversion on the Emperor's Champion model, pics soon.

Right, here's some pics of my Librarian Kitbash for you guys to look at. Long way to go yet on the painting but feedback and advice would be appreciated, I'm not very good at doing non-metallic power armour!

Will try and photograph the land speeder soon, I've been experimenting with doing some weathering which I'm quite happy with!

This is probably a bit late, but have you given any thought to use Red Scorpion rules to represent your Iron Snakes? I could be wrong, but I believe their entry in one of the Imperial Armours lists each squad as able to take an Apothecary.

To be honest I've not thought too much about how to use them from a rules perspective, I was going to try them out using CSM and then go from there. I had thought the easiest way to represent the additional apothocaries was by simply making the models but only from a fluff perspective, no in-game benefits.

Head not attached yet, not sure whether he should look left or right?

The aforementioned Land Speeder:

Some more recent pics of my ven dread, painting this guy really makes me want an ironclad!

Comments & crits much appreciated! :)

Nice snakes, really nice! just leave the scheme and you have executed it perfectly. Good job.

On another note.. Just of curiosity what color would chips have on silver armor? To look good on a model ofc. (IRL i guess they'd just be silver like the rest of the armor). Anyone have a clue coz I want to make a Iron snakes army, but i want i to be quite weathered. Thinking of using salt weathering.

I really like the second model there. Where did you get the helmet? And the bolt guns, where did you get those? They look awesome! :P

Cheers, the second model is going to be the squad sergeant. The helm is from the venerable dreadnought and the bolter is a conversion using a standard bolter, storm bolter ammo, stock from a lasgun and an optical sight from the IG heavy weapon sprue.

I've not really done much weathering on my snakes yet, though I think your best bet would be to use boltgun metal or even tin bitz to paint dark chips. I will probably experiment with it a bit further down the line.
