Iron Snakes Battleforce WIP

Recommended Posts

Right guys, an exciting post coming tomorrow morning (left my lead at work!) as I've finished converting up the captain for this battleforce, he's wielding the classic relic blade and storm shield combo, but I think I've given him a nice Iron Snakes feel!

I've also just taken delivery of the oop veteran with power maul I've been drooling over for so long! He's going to lead the second tac squad, once he's done in the Flash bath!

The sternguard are now based and ready to spray, all except the chap with the combiplas. I'm not very happy with his pose so I've removed his arms to start again, all suggestions much, much appreciated!

I've also build and sprayed a drop pod, though I'm struggling on the best approach to painting it.

Ok here's a question for you, I'm wanting to get cracking on my drop pod soon, but was unsure as to the best way to make it match the Iron Snakes, here's a few ideas:

What do you think, there's one I prefer but I'm keeping it under my hat! :D

Those are some really neat iron Snakes, but one thing has jumped out at me multiple times, on the chapter symbol, the snake's head appears to be upside down.

Lexicanum Page for the Iron Snakes.

Other then that, they are very nice looking, makes me realize I have to redo the Psychic hood on my custom Librarian.

EDIT: Could I possibly steal the Black Templar Emperor's Champion idea you've got there? The Kopesh style Halberd would fit perfectly with the Arab/Egyptian Marines I currently have going.

I agree with Rorschach about the Drop Pod. I don't know if you're still looking for shields to use, but if you are, sciborminiatures has some really cool ones:

The problem with thos big shields is that only 7mm are left visible of the mini after you glue them on. Not great and the issue was raised earlier on.

Hey there, the symbol I was trying to replicate was this one. Though there seem to be a few different variants out there!

Feel free to use the halberd idea, I'm quite happy with it. The parts were a chaos marauder spear and one of the tomb kings swords.

@typical cricket - Those are some great shields, I might have to look into those for my assault squad.

I've been a bit tied up with the conversion challenge so there will soon be a MotF with Conversion Beamer to post in here. :P

I'm starting to think this is the way to go, too much red or white and it will look like a White Scars DP.

Sorry for the long delay since the last update, more frequent from now, I promise!

Thanks very much :)

Really like the look of the rhino doors on that kit. Another one to investigate!

Bit of a lame update, but I've been really busy on the Conversion Challenge!

Here's some progress on my Captain:

& a sneak peak of the comp entry:

For your Drop Pods, I think there isn't enough Silver & there is too much red. I would suggest doing your Drop Pods in a scheme like this:

That's really good, I like the way the red breaks up the silver on the 'wings'

Any suggestions for avoiding brush marks without an airbrush on vehicles?

Use a sponge brush. I haven't tried it myself but I was looking at some articles on the GW website and there was a couple of White Scars tanks on there that were painted beautifully. They said they used a sponge brush to apply the paint w/out leaving brush strokes.

could you clarify what you mean by sponge brush

These are sponge brushes. They are also called foam brushes. You can pick them up @ Wal-Mart pretty cheap. Most hobby stores or paint supply stores have them fairly cheap too. One with a 1" width should work pretty well for covering a tank. They're tapered at the end too so you could use an edge for more narrow areas.
