Jorre's Blood Angels - The Lord of Death

I love the look of mark 5 but i actually found it pretty frustrating to paint! The little knobs really interupt the normal flow of the paint.

I probably wont be attempting a full squad again! Maybe just a couple peaces here and there

The saddest shelf in my house.... my collection of half painted unfinished models.

This is what happens when you paint so slowly that models become obsolete before you finish them!! Some of these models date back to early 5th edition.

I really.need to clear some of these old projects especially the almost complete assault squad at the front. Buuutt so many more relevant projects at the moment!

Thanks Luther, its really nothing special though. I havnt got the new gw purples yet so i just use there old pot Liche purple.

1.Paint the gem black.

2.Then 1 coat of watered down lich purple, try leave a thin outline of black around the edges. I usualy leave more black on the left side of the gem.

3. Add a blob of white to your lich purple, more water to if the paint is a little thick. I paint the whole right side of the gem and the bottom part. Sort of a crescent moon shape.

4. Add another blob of white and water to your mix. This time just a little slice of colour in the bottom right corner.

5. Depending on the size of the gem you can add one more layer with more white in the bottom right corner. If its a small gem i never bother though.

6. Tiny drop of pure white in the bottom right corner and in the top left (which should still be black)

If you dont have lich purple any dark purple colour should do the job!

I should add that this isn't a techique i came up with myself. Pretty sure i followed the instructions in a white dwarf. You can use different colours with the same technique. Ive used red/blue/green to get the same effect on differnt things just like lenses or gems

If you wish to follow all my hobby related work I am now also keeping a small facebook blog. Thought the name "Only Angels may fly" would be appropriate in honor of Sanguinius victory over ka'bandha.

So big plans are afoot!

Largest tournament in West Australian history is in just over 2 months with over 70 players paid up and committed to the event. This really bucks the trend as in the last 18 months we havnt seen more than 20 at an event!

With this in mind I have begun my Skyhammer Annihilation force! This is the most ambitious hobby task I have ever commited to! I need to have 37 models ready in the skyhammer + 2 drop pods, I also need a culexus assasin and a new sanguinary priest. Also I need a 5 man Ba sniper scout squad.

I have decided on a theme for my skyhammer. I'm not great with fluff, so this is sketchy at best! The chapter will be called The Spartans! They are a Blood Angel successor chapter on the brink of destruction! There are only 300 of them left! The chapter master is Leonidas. They come from a sector of space known as the Hot Gates. An imperial sector currently besieged by a chaos tyrant known only as Xercies (spelling??) A enormus chaos space marine who thinks he's a god!

So thats my dodgey possible copyright infringing fluff!! They wont be painted to my usual standard, but i think ive come up with a really striking colour scheme. I have bought a bucket load of custom parts for these guys so hopefully they will really stand out! I should have a few test models ready to show tonight! So stand by!

Exciting stuff. I'm interested to see how you integrate the Skyhammer Force into a BA army. Cunning use of using a successor chapter, but how divergent do you plan in making them from your 'real' BA contingent?

D

Since BA are technically not allowed to use the Skyhammer formation I would like to make sure my opponent can clearly tell the models are from a different formation! So these models are going to be completely different with their own colour scheme and a different theme. Also it will be nice to paint something that isnt red for a change!

I cant seem to upload pictures from my phone at the moment so the pictures are going to be delayed unfortunetly!

Ok so I am neck deep in this Skyhammer project now! Its to late to stop it must be completed by the end of November! Here are some project shots

I have finished building all 20 Devs. 4 with Multimelta and 4 with Grav Cannons.

The first 10 are close to finished and you can get the general gist of the colour scheme!

Another shot of the construction Chaos!!

This guy was orignally built for a BA Vanguard Vet squad in 5th ed. The squad was only ever undercoated and is now very obsolete, some of the models will still be use able, but most will need to be modified. This guy should serve as a Vet Sergeant for one of the assault squads, I just had to give him a new arm and rebase him! For the record GW resin does not like Detol!!

This guy will be a grisly old vet for one of the Dev squads! Puts most Iron hands to shame with his Bionics!

Lastley a squad I pledged for Rage to Salvation!..... Cause I need more to do on top of finishing 40 + models for the skyhammer! However these guys really do need finishing! I have put a hell of a lot of time into this squad already(during 5th again) and they deserve to be finished! This was the first squad I put a bit of effort into dynamic poses and there are various degrees of success here. The paint job isnt to bad I think it will look really good with some of the new techniques Ive learned! First I will give them a edge highlight then finish off all the minor details like chainswords and bolt pistols. I think I will rebase the lot to as this was an experimental base I made ment to have a larva theme! It looked ok, but is far to time and resource consuming! They will look much nicer on my new style of bases and match the rest of my army!

Jorre, all of your guys look fantastic. I admire your dedication in painting up that Mk5 Assault Squad *shudder*. Full Mk5 really doesn't look fun. I like the idea of doing the Skyhammer with a Successor, and they look great!. Very nice conversion work on them with the alternate parts! Good luck on finishing them and playing in the tournament!
