Demoulius
question: how did you reposistion those legs?
SamaNagol
Because the feet are on ball and socket joints, you'll be amazed at the range of movement you can imply with just positioning
Demoulius
Because the feet are on ball and socket joints when did this happen?
Grimm Blade
As usual this is fantastic work! I do have a couple of suggestions for you though............. One is that you turn the Beserker stomping foot so that it is pointing the direction the dread is looking, and the other is that you do a little work on the dread's helmet, as it is you can't really see his eyes........ These are minor points on an otherwise amazing model
Tabgoi
Fantastic work SamaNagol, and thanks for all the tips on the magnets. Its great seeing how people handle them so the rest of us can get some great insight.
SamaNagol
The foot is actually positioned facing in the direction of the hips and splayed out ever so slightly. If it was pointing outwards with the Berzerker it would look very very odd. The eyes are just hooded by shadows cast by the hood and the brow of the helmet. I'll be using lighting effects when I paint it to make them clearly visible. It is just a drawback of the brow being so low and the psychic hood coming round so far over the 'cheeks' of the helmet. But with lighting effects they should be visible enough to keep them a focal point of the model. / That Humbrol spray I bought.... currently a big failure. I tried it over a black primer from a decent distance and the finish was ridiculously glossy http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_cc2w-f0XTFg/TUUx...y%2Bmarines.jpg I'll try again in far shorter bursts and try and build up thin watery satin coats instead, see if it works

WOW  that really is shinny red paint! I love the color, but as you said, it is definitely too shinny. Are you planning on using matt farnish on your models when they are painted? If so, perhaps that could elininate the excessive gloss issue. I am excited to see that the painting of the force has begun!!!
SamaNagol
It wouldnt really work with that finish because I would have to paint over that spray anyway. And painting on top of matte varnish isn't really good. I'm going to keep trying things out and see if I can make it work

Wakim
Maybe i missed it... but have you tried Mechrite Red? Try using a Black undercoat for it, as oposed to white for Blood Red. Works pretty well for me so far (eventhough i`m a noob painter). And i've seen people airbrushing it with great success as well as Scab Red. Just add your favourite wash over when you're done. Might want to try Army Painter Dragon Red too - http://shop.thearmypainter.com/products.php?ProductGroupId=
Chapter Master Kanithon
Hi there, I've been following your blog for ages and you have persuaded me to finally start a flesh tearers army. You're models and conversions are amazing. I was just wondering if you've had any experience with the forgeworld flesh tearers etched brass and if you have, are there any basic flesh tearers symbols that fit on shoulders? and if not, what to you use for chapter symbols? Thanks, Kanithon
SamaNagol
The etched brass is all for vehicles For the chapter logo I bought the metal shoulder pads from GW direct (it's in the Blood Angels bits section) and if I have to put a logo on something else I just take a green stuff mould of the shoulder pad and reproducer it onto whatever surface I need. It's very simple
Chapter Master Kanithon
Ah right, cheers that's nice and helpful I've heard people say that the GW metal shoulder pads are small and look odd on the models, have you had trouble with this? SamaNagol
Not at all, the FT ones are marginally smaller but you cannot notice it unless you stare and compare. If you pose the models in dynamic poses they really are fine. I'll up some pics later

Chapter Master Kanithon
Very Nice, I was wondering how you'd portray your Sanguinary Guard. How are you planning on painting them? In the traditional way or in the flesh tearer's scheme?
SamaNagol
Gold. Black wings. Lots of scars, markings and service studs. I was doing some thinking about how the Sanguinary Guard came about. We have to look at how they would have been equipped and recruited from scratch after they were wiped out to the last man during the climactic battle on horus' battle barge. Their armour would have been reforged or made from scratch, so the Mk7 helms actually make sense for a change. And as with Malach, I envision these brothers who have seen centuries of frontline fighting but have managed to all but overcome the Black Rage. They won't look noble and classically beautiful. They will look like Flesh Tearers who have lived their life in service on the front with axe and bolt pistol and never taking a backwards step. I really love the idea of the Blood Angels being the host of angels, whilst the Flesh Tearers are the wrath and vengeance like Archangel Micheal. I draw a slight parallel between the Imperial Fists and the Black Templars. The Fists remained 'at home' whilst the more fervent brothers crusaded into the depths of space in bring righteous vengeance. The Flesh Tearers are simple this element of the Blood Angels, of Sanguinius, allowed to run free. So the image of terrible angels in beautiful suits of burnished golden armour with black wings and grizzled scarred faces really appeals to me. SamaNagol
I added a post on my blog with a list of all my 'made up' characters for my Flesh Tearers force which you will have seen throughout this thread, along with some background for each. Everything is based on source material from Index Astartes and the Codex Blood Angels from various different editions. I'll post up one a day in here as a reply, but if you want to read them all in one go feel free to check out: http://flesh-tearers.blogspot.com/2011/02/...sh-tearers.html Agur, Chief Librarian of the Flesh Tearers (Counts as Mephiston/Librarian)It is the duty of the Librarians of the Flesh Tearers to travel widely, desperate to find the ancient and sacred texts which they believe must exist, in the hope of finding lasting salvation from their curse. Collected visions and prophecies of their Primarch reside within the Librarium on Cretacia collected from the far corners of the galaxy, for it is not always lust for battle and uncontrolled rage which sees the Flesh Tearers Strikecruisers make planetfall. It falls to one figure the task of interpreting the words of their fallen Primarch in the hope that somewhere they will find the means to control the darkness in their genetic imprint as their Father once did. That is the Chief Librarian of the Flesh Tearers. Agur has held this role for 3 centuries and in this time he has seen the doomed fate of the Chapter approaching ever nearer. Never has the task bestowed upon him been more important, nor more pressing. Untold hours are spent poring over texts, re-treading every word in the vain hope of finding something that has evaded his predecessors. Every tendril of the Flesh Tearers network of informants at work to find any rumour or legend of previously undiscovered lore from the preternatural mind of the Primarch, Agur has often personally led expedition forces to capture and reclaim these invaluable clues which may unlock the secrets to controlling the Flaw. Having held at bay, for no Flesh Tearer can truly hope to overcome, the curse of the Black Rage within his superhuman body for over half a millennia in service of the Chapter, Chief Librarian Agur can be found on the battle field leading from the front, born aloft by great spectral wings as terrible energies play around his psychic hood like a mockery of a halo, for no visage as disfigured as his own could be described as angelic. On Proxis III Agur slew a monstrous Hive Tyrant with a single, earth-shattering blow from his Force Staff. However the creature's final act was to shower the Librarian with bile from its maw so caustic that it ate through his armour within seconds and reduced his once noble features to a burnt and grizzled mess. It has done little to dispel the mythos of the Flesh Tearers as inhuman monsters and demons when commanders are met face to face by the twisted visage of Brother Agur. It is with equal measures of urgency and hope that Agur continues to spend every moment at his disposal trying to find salvation for the Flesh Tearers chapter before it is too late.
