I did some research for the lava base pics again. Please note, this is not my work, this is just for inspiration.

Well done on that cloak, you've absolutely nailed the highlighting! I hope it wasn't as much as a night mare as my Chaos Lord's was (I ended up stripping it 3 times before I was happy... )

These are Lemmingspawn's Irona Warriors, they're excellent, his Daemon Engine conversions are the best I've ever seen :D

A great source of inspiration for any Iron Warriors pr Chaos player :)

  • 2 weeks later...

@ K_Oz - aye those guys rock, although not too keen on lava for my Iron Warriors... So i've gone for a city fight/wasteland with debris

@ firestorm40k - I really enjoyed painting the clock & as you'll prolly see below I added some weathering to it

Call of Chaos IV - JULY, UPDATE #1

I've finally finished 1 of these guys!! Behold squad Champion of the Ironclad - BRUTICUS! :D

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a62/t0rtured-s0ul/GW%20Stuff/Bruticus_painted.png

I'm very happy how this guys has turned out, first miniature I've acutally finished painting, still gotta varnish him, but i will do it once the other guys are done! Although I will be moving house in a few weeks, so I gotta try & fit in painting the rest with packing & moving, but I shall try my best!

Cheers for the coments guys, I'm currently working on Captain Rackstrum, really enjoying painting his Daemon Sword & you shall see why soon ;) Gonna hopefully get him finished in the next day or so! Then I'll prolly do Mörklon with the banner, as I wanna do a free hand design on the banner (dunno how this will go, as I don;t have a steady hand!) Once hes finished, I'll have the other 3 guys to finish off, bloody hell its gonna be tight!

Anyways, got a few questions!

1 - whats the best way to paint stripes on parts of the armour that are surrounded by trim?

2 - whats the best way of varnishing these guys? I have matt spray varnish, but i'm not too confident using it, need some tips!

Also, I gotta new case for my army from KR multicase, nice & silver + enough room for 160 odd minis ;)

@ KhornateKiller - Thanx mate!

@ nurglez - haha! Don't worry you'll get beaten by my Iron Warriors soon enough :P I'll have to varnish my termis before i can use them though & make sure i don't treat my minis like kai treats his! I cringed everytime he just lobbed a mini into a box when he removed them! It felt good beating his IG after I thought he was just gonna sit back shoot me from far away with big guns! I love Daemon's Inv save :D

I've gotta busy week ahead of me gotta paint 4 Termis in the space of 4-5 evenings, Rackstrum to 5 evenings alone! *looks nervous*

The MVP tool in painting my Iron Warriors was an AWESOME invention called the Micro Pen! also it only cost me 9 bucks for a 3 pack of varied sizes, the smallest being less than a milimeter i think. i really dont have a steady hand with a brush to do small straight lines. this thing saved the day. id make the lines then highlight with the grey tones without ever messing up my yellow. which is what i started with first. also its great for lining around the metal ares of the armor. heres a few pics

as for matte spray, i forgot the one i used because it was a while ago and i cant find it but i would definately use a test mini because some matte sprays need only a super light coat or more coats to tone down the metal. if you use too much itll dry in a milky glazed finish which will ruin your model. ive never used a brushed on matte but again there are a few and id use a test mini. to me the brush seems less controlled and i dunno if you can water it down to start off light.

Cheers for the tips mate, yeah I've been using fine liner pens too, I've found 0.05 & 0.1s are very useful! as for the varnishing, yeah i shall try it out on some test minis first, my only concern with spray varnish is how to get intot he hard to reach areas that spray miss out! I will prolly use a paint on varnish for those, as you can't really see them,. but they need protecting none the less!

The Hazard stripes on you guys look very nice & smooth by the way!

I wasn't too sure about the purple either, but, it looks nice.

and I'm sure as a captain, in a chaos legion army list, he can wear what he very well likes.

space marine: ha ha look he's wearing purple! he must think he's an Emperor's Children or something

Captain Rackstrum: *swipes with his daemon sword*

@ wiplash - The Lord with the cloak & all the hazard stripes belongs to Debauchery101!!

@ Debauchery101 - Could you change the pictures of you IWs to link please mate so other people don't goet confused! Cheers!

@ Kythnos & nurglez - Rackstrum has the Mark of Slaanesh, hence the purple cloak ;) I wasn't sure what other colour i could it to be honest! AS I wanted something slaaneshi & not black!

Starting work on the otehr 4 guys tonight, 5 evenings to paint 4 guys, can I do it? ;)

the cloak is a bit purple which seem a little different for iron warriors but its well painted so i have no problems with it.

Call of Chaos IV - JULY, UPDATE #3

Pledge half completed...

Unfortunately I have run out of time to complete my pledge of 1 Chaos Lord & 5 Chaos Terminators... Real life has been very busy these past couple of months, I missed out the whole of June, as i was on holiday & I've been trying to pack all my stuff for when I move home!

Although I couldn't complete my pledge by the dead line, I am very happy how my Terminators are looking so far, being the first miniatures I've painted for a long long time! Its also given me the motivation to get on & paint my Iron Warriors & I shall finish of painting my terminators once i have moved home :P

Anyways, enough blabbering on, heres a pic of the 3rd dude I’ve painted - Vork'ash

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a62/t0rtured-s0ul/GW%20Stuff/Vorkash_painted.png

& heres a group shot of what I've painted from left to right - Bruticus - Rackstrum - Vork'ash (managed to get a better shot of Rackstrum's sword too)

Also heres some Painting in progress pix of the other 3 guys & their arms! I'm really happy how the severed head looks! :D

Cheers mate ;)

Well I've packed these guys away now, ready for the move! Gonna miss painting for a bit, but at least it gives me time to sort out some concepts for ideas other units I have! Heres a couple of concepts I would like some feed back on:

Currently in a 1500 pt game of 40k I have 3 troop choice: 10 Chaos Marines, 8 Berzerkers & 7 Plague Marines

So first of all the Berzerkers are know as the "Bloody Fists* so I was thinking of using the colour scheme below, what do you guys think?

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a62/t0rtured-s0ul/GW%20Stuff/iwbezerker2.png

Secondly for my Plague Marines, I'm just using some stand ins at the moment, but I want a dedicated unit... howver I don't want the smelly looking followers of Nurgle as I will be doing a whole Death Guard army at some point & I wanted something different! SO my idea is as follows - As many of you know Forge World have released squad of MKIII Iron Armour Marines which look awesome!

The MkIII ‘Iron’ Armour is a variant of the previous ‘Crusade’ pattern adapted with additional armour plates to the front, as well as a reinforced helmet faceplate and strengthened vambraces for the savage firefights of fleet-based boarding actions. This extra armour turns an already resilient Marine into an almost unstoppable juggernaut within the cramped confines of a ship.

Also I think the characterises of the armour fit perfectly with the idea of "count-as" Plague Marines, what do you guys think? Also what would be a cool squad name for them?

That scheme seems appropriate for Bezerkers, and it works well aesthetically as well.

As for the Plague Marines, the Iron Armor is certainly nice, but is it really Nurglite? Or are your plague marines not Nurgle worshipers in that sense?

As for a squad name, I recommend "The Steel Plague" or something like that.
