Lil update, gonna try and get this thread back to just painted models again so will just post that content, unless I've got something shiny to show.

Please follow the wip thread for modelling progress.

cheers

To hell with it, this is shiny.

Well, finished the building part of this model. Going to try and hold off painting it before the ETL, will give me time to finalise the overall colours and paint scheme. Also left the legs blu-tacked for now as will just be awkward to paint the base and ork with them on there. So I'll save myself that stress. I've also magnetised the Knight at the waist join to make for easy transport, will help with painting to.

Anyways..

SPEAK TO THE FOOT FOUL GREENSKIN!!!!!!!

I've added in a few extra non game affecting(from what I know) equipment. Either side on the waist I'm stuck in some search lights, and in the middle under the chest plate is a frag launcher. Again just for show because I had one square lying around and story wise if the driver/pilot needs to get out to do anything, she can pop the frag clearing the area or whatever. Was going to get a bolt pistol of heavy stubber in there but just no room. So you could imagine if she needed to get out for any reason, pop the frag, bust the top hatch open and let loose with the stubber before disembarking.

Have to say, this is quite possibly the best greenstuff I've done, while the knight helmet icon is a print from a mold, the scrolls were rolled out and popped on with ease. Surprised me to say the least that they turned out so well.

The main weapons are magnetised as well, no need for pics as we all know what they look like.

C&C welcome as always,

Next up, more bikes....around 14 of them. Not sure if I should make them just a normal bike unit or the 5 man command squad that I see we are restricted to(as in just 5 of them). Can't see anyway to make that unit bigger without adding in IC's. Or am I missing something?

10/10 would crusade beside that knight.

Also, I'd kill to see your take on a bike command squad- they are a challenge, but I'm convinced yours would come out excellently.

Oh, man. From this point on, whenever I look at my Knight, all I'll be able to think will be: "It's nothing close to the one Eberious made."

Joking/self pity aside: That's an absolute beautiful model. Are you going to do it in basic BT colours? Or can we expect something with a bit more....flair? :wink.:

Thank you all very much for the kind comments. Once I had finished it and blu-tacked all the bits together I was practically giddy when taking these photos. I'm still ironing out a colour and pattern scheme. I came up with a scheme and thought, yes that's the one.....its been changed if even only slightly 4 times.:wacko.:

@The_Chaplain, been thinking about it and did decide not to do a command bike squad but have swung around to doing them. Can always buy more bikes.

@Andhil, The thought did cross my mind heavily to do it in BT colours, but the knight will have a different kind of flair.

I did say I would be doing another Chaplain biker, but for now I'm remodeling my stormraven, I really really need to start painting. The 1st vow shouldn't take to long...I hope :sad.:

Next update will be painted ETL vow stuff.

STORM RAVEN!

Finally got around to finishing one of the models from my ETL vow, I had less time than thought to do painting :sad.: .

modified the tail a little as never liked the way GW made it. I had it fully made with landing gear out, but wanted it flying and while I was at changing the tail and ripped the landing gear out...carefully.

A change from the usual dead Ork. I read a story once(can't remember what book) where it described a scene where a Imperial guard trooper was slouched up against a wall/monument dying, when a shadow cast across the square for a moment and then the BOOM! of a Thunderhawk flying low over head. Wanted to capture that scene in this model.

Thunderhawk up next, probably towards the mid/end of the week.

Your re-engineering has overwhelmed me and the painting is just ace. Simply brilliant!

I think I just found a non-FW Fire Raptor...

Would you happen to have a WIP shot of the back? What you've done is extremely intriguing.

How did I miss that knight before? By the Emperor! I've been wanting to do reposes on marine legs and maybe even for my Ironclad (if I find the damn thing) stomping on something, but not sure how I'd fare with such a big and pricey model. So color me jealous. It's certainly going to be a mind-blowing Knight when it's painted.

A great thing about the Knight's size indeed seems to be that it provided plenty of opportunities for custom decorations! Oh man... and I promised myself I wouldn't buy one just yet.

Thanks for the comments and likes all.

This is spectacular. Awesome work, looking forward for what is to come.
I hope you don't mind I might have to try this out with the tail whenever I get a storm raven.

Go right ahead, I wanted the tail to have a low profile and to resemble the land speeders...and tbh a quick google search reminded me of it.

did you just split the tail and then put it backwards because I have to say the raised tail just feels odd and that looks much better.

yeah, pretty much. Cut a line about 1.5mm into the top section, then bent it till it broke along the score(could just cut it right in half of course). Filed it smooth and glued it back flat. The side support bits are plasticard and the underneath support is a bit from the IG ig valkyrie kit. But easily enough made from plasticard.

No sorry, next time if I happen to do another one. Could always mock up a ms paint job to show the process. If you like ?  should be straight forward enough to do it that way.

Always a momentous pleasure to view your work Eberious! That Knight is going to be incredible.

Is my comically-large-sword-wielding model of myself still in your collection? :tongue.:

yes, sadly yet to be painted. I'm sorry :(  . My excuse, was I took a break....a fairly long break from painting n stuff. then painted some eldar. But I'm back on Templars now, so I will be trying to stay on top of painting and get those 'do you want to fight in my crusade' models painted.

Thanks tvih , I would only chop this kit up if you are confident. But tbh it was a real easy kit to do this to. I made it so if the legs changes didn't work I could get them back to the GW stance.  Only real issue I run into was the hydraulics on the back of the legs.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks Greggles, I had to take the tail and the landing gear off. Which was a pain, even bust 2 blades cutting the back landing gear off.

So yeah, I thought to myself when I first submitted my vow that the thunderhawk  won't take to long...lol. But to be fair I've had waaaaaay less time to paint than I thought I would of. But managed to finish it and make a start to the LRR with a bust wrist, came off my mountain bike, fell about 5ft off a ramp. Funny thing is I fell on my left side but hurt my right wrist?  I swear the ramp moved. lol.

Anyways, pics.

There isn't any battle damage on this, 1. cause I ain't drilling into this thing resin/cost of model, 2. my wrist. :(    but mostly number 1 reason.

Still got the LRR and 2 vindicators to do, and want to at least vow a 2nd lot. The titan and my mounted command squad. But we shall see how quick the next 3 tanks get churned out.

<insert snarky comment about the commercial viability of a plastic Thunderhawk>

Absolutely beautiful. I will never buy a resin version of this puppy, but I am unwilling to say how many over the first I might get before my credit card commits suicide. :)

It is very clear to me that the only thing that improves a Thunderhawk is painting it in Black Templar livery.

Just outstanding!
