The Tyrant Rises - Update 5/18/15 - Tac Marines Done

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the kind words on the posters. I made them in photoshop with some elements imported from illustrator. I did make them at poster size though (25" x 36" I believe) and 300 dpi so they should print out at a pretty high quality. The versions on here are just much smaller files to be able to post online easier.
For rank and file marines I give them one blue shoulder pad, the left one, with no gold trim at all. Scouts get no blue shoulder pad and sergeants, veterans, and characters get 2 blue shoulder pads with gold trim. Veterans and characters also get more gold on their armor in general. This gives a sense of rank to the randomness that FW has with their color scheme variations.

Hey guys, just thought I would post up some pics of the first members of my second tactical squad. I love the new box.

I imagine this guy is kind of the scout, hence the MK6 armor with the enhanced senses. He also has a lot of grenades and pouches on him.

I was really excited about this set of arms, finally they're aiming!

And the Sarge. I was trying to mimic the pose of that one Legion of the Damned model. I wanted him to look tough and grizzled and a little less psycho then the rest of my guys. This is also the first time I have used one of those Deathwatch pads.

I was kind of going for a more rookie looking squad with these guys. Everyone models the Astral Claws as these tough as nails veterans with all of these old armor marks, but remember they were over 3,000 strong at their height. Thats over 2,000 newish marines and a lot of MK7 armor since that is all they could produce. So I want this squad to be a few veterans with a bunch of newer recruits pushed into the front lines to fill the gaps. I see this Sarge as being a "training" Sargent kind of. He gets sent a lot of the greener marines to turn them into the tough as nails vets. Doesn't mean they won't be a lot of them with a psycho streak like Squad Numas though...

Excellent poses there nurgling! Can't wait to see the whole squad painted up.

I have my Carcharon captain and command squad almost finished, but all my posts seem to have disappeared?

Keep up the great work!

I have wanted to make a marine in this pose for awhile now. I saw a SWAT miniature once in this running position and I knew I needed to replicate it. I can't decide if I am going to have him aiming while he's running or pointing the bolter down.

just when you think an army can't get anymore awesome, you pull out that conversion!

the running legs look the business

I would have the gun held at his shoulder, with the tip dropped down, as if he's just sprayed and now he's looking over the barrel to confirm the kill, and scan for next target...

this is sincerely one of my favourite armies

keep up the great work

Hey everyone, first off my (mostly) finished running marine.

All I have left to do on him is greenstuff in his one wrist. I decided to give him the upside down knife on his shoulder guard to emphasize his tactical/serious nature. I also gave him what I like to call a "Badabian Pattern Tactical Combat Shield" on his left arm. A few of my older guys have it as well, its mostly just extra protection for their side that they face the enemy with. I imagine Valthex made it while tinkering with his tech.

Next up my Librarian:

Originally my idea was just to use the stock model but with a helmet instead of the head (so I can do glowing eye lenses) but I decided to switch out his arms as well. Visually I like the staff on a libby best but in game terms I prefer something with a little more hitting power. I still need to greenstuff those weird zig zag lines on to the axe head as well as the tubing in his right arm pit. I'm not to sure on this pose and may just tear the arms off and give him back the staff. Let me know what you think.

Damn. I was hoping to be the first one on the B&C to do a head swap for a helmet on that Libby... Oh well, as per usual I absolutely love these guys and I agree, the new kits are amazitacular... So much possibility.  Keep up the good work, bro.

I did a head swap on my libby using a Sternguard Mk 4 helmet, and unfotunately, the helmets tend not to sit flush as there's not quite enough room. In the end I cut the psychic hood down to the top of the wiring which luckily made the helmet fit nicely. From what I can see that might be something worth looking at?

The whole thread's a massive inspiration as well. Some quality conversions with excellent painting are producing an army anyone would be proud to own. Keep it up!

Thanks guys! Yeah, the helmet doesn't fit quite right. I had to glue the torso together with a slight space between the two halves to make the helmet fit. I also shaved down his neck a bit and slightly bent the psychic hood up with my fingers. Still a tight fit with limited poses possible. I wish they had considered that when they made it. I plan on using the libby head on a future model with some hair sculpted on where his psychic hat thingy is right now.

I love how the running marine turned out.  Simple but so very effective :)

That being said, I would've gone with a different knife.  The quick-snap sheath is sexy, but the thing is too dinky for a marine.

The Librarian conversion is quite a tasty treat, too.  Really my main criticism is the strange sea of gray you've been posting lately.

Paint damn you! :teehee:

You rarely see axe wielding Librarians these days. I think you should keep it. biggrin.png

Funny you should say that, I've just got finished my own Carcharon Libby with a grav pitol and force axe, pic will be up later tonight.

Looks like I'm mirroring Nurgling all the way ;)

Nurgling, you UK based? Would love my sharks to face off against your claws ;)

Also you're models are truly inspiring my friend
