The Tyrant Rises - Update 5/18/15 - Tac Marines Done

Recommended Posts

Well I realized that I have never posted pictures of my Astral Claws fleet for Gothic. I actually painted them probably about 2 years ago. Instead of posting regular model pictures of the ships I thought this would be more interesting.

Let me know if you guys want a larger version or a version without the text.

Enjoy

Now to go add some highlights to a Sternguard...

I'd actually be really interested in knowing how you made that picture. My Iron Warriors ships would love such a sexy picture of themselves biggrin.png

Kinda easy actually.

Took pictures of my ships with a strong light source against a black background. Played with the black levels and highlights in photoshop (I took the pictures as a RAW file). Magic wanded the black areas, inverse it and select the light area, copy and paste into the master image. Found a picture of stars I like, a planet I like and a nebula which I then copy, pasted, erased, played with the opacity and repeat. I probably used the same picture of a nebula about 5 times in this picture. Mess around with the sizes of the ships and done.

Thats how I did my old star maps. Photoshop is nifty for building narratives.

I must start off by saying I was ecstatic to see your Diorama at the new-ish GW store here in austin. It was a tremendous pleasure to see it in the flesh!

Also, all these pictures of your fleet are making me want to dust off my old chaos fleet (and my one, random SM strike cruiser) and give them a new paint job.

No completely finished models, but heres a wip of the latest Sternguard.

I still have to do the skin, parchment, leather strap, brass and lots of other tiny details. I have been working on him along side a commission, sneaking in an hour here or there.

I also thought I would follow up my pictures of my Gothic fleet with a look at the 3 Epic models I painted a few years ago.

I have a decently sized epic army completely unpainted that at one point will get the Tyrant's colors, to bad its a dead game system.

My Terminator Sarge, nothing fancy, I do like the grizzled, no nonsense look though.

And although this isn't Astral Claw related I figured I would post an update on my sneak peak from a few weeks ago.

The bronze armor is done for now, I'm sure I will tweak it as I go. The color in the photos is a little off, I think the last one is closest to real life.

Thats all for now.

Someone just asked me on CMoN about my Fire Hawks paint recipe and it reminded me that I had the same question posed on here. Well heres my answer:

If I remember correctly it was a mix of Blazing Orange (just a bit), Tuskagor Fur and Dark Flesh I think. I may have added some red in there too at some point, and I think I did a subtle orange glaze at the end. The highlights were done by mixing in Bleached Bone.

I shaded it with Dark Flesh and a Dark Flesh/Scorched Brown mix.

Hope that helps.

Sorry I didn't write the recipe down and it was very spontaneous as I painted, tweaking it as I went.
