nurgling6688 Posted June 30, 2014 Author Share Posted June 30, 2014 Oh man, the Bronze. Funny story, I painted that part several months ago, probably in January. I didn't start working on him again until a few weeks ago and there were a few more brass parts for me to paint, like the scabbard and Butcher's Nails and I couldn't really recall exactly how I did it, but I am about 95% sure this is the recipe. Basecoat Balthasar Gold Agrax Earthshade wash Drybrush/Layer Balthasar Gold/Runefang Steel mix, leaning more towards Balthasar Gold I used Carroburg Crimson and a Purple wash to shade the brass, maybe Agrax in a few places. Mix in more Runefang steel for progressive highlights with a final line highlight of pure Runefang. I go back and forth with my steps to get the results I need so its hard to give a step by step. The key to why it looks different then most is the crimson and purple washes to shade it. Hope that helps a bit. Yogi: Thanks! The blood on the back was on purpose, the metal just looked to plain to me, but maybe I'll go back in and adjust it. The cloth only has the shadows done so far, no highlights. I have a Twitter account @mengelminis where I post up a bunch of stuff daily if you don't want to wait between posts on here. Hopefully this guy will be done sometime soonish? I don't have much motivation to play 40k right now, but still love the models and my Astral Claws. Let me know if these stage by stage photos are too much. I don't want to burn out people's interest in the model. I can save it all for a grand reveal once he's done if that's preferred. As for how many points I have, probably not much. Painted I have 5 scouts, 5 assault marines, 10 tacticals, 3 1/2 sternguard, Valthex (techmarine with conversion beam), 1 assault terminator and a drop pod... Sure, if you are doing and entire squad in one go it can be quite tiresome, but for a single miniature in each squad, your "test squad member" per-say I think its great. Now that I know I am for sure entering into Crystal Brush it would be helpful to get some critical feedback. I plan on entering the 5 sternguard and Corien Sumatris as one unit. If anyone would like to take a look back at the 3 I already have done and let me know anything that you think can be improved upon that would be fantastic.
