Thank you guys for all of your comments, it helps me not to throw this army away.

Well, my brother and I have kept in mind Death Guard paint scheme  so I think it's Death Guard.

AVE DOMINUS NOX, ladies and gentlemen! :P

I think, I'm returning to frequent updates. Neat

Well, I'll try to be brief. First of all, some progress with first raptor:

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/4356/img0348lf.jpghttp://img85.imageshack.us/img85/3481/img0349nr.jpghttp://img600.imageshack.us/img600/8849/img0346pp.jpg

When I've started, I had no idea how much green stuff I would put on this (and, probably, next four) guy. So, I'm thinking about the mask at the moment, and I think it'll be skull of some sort.

So, next in the line is a pair of options for the 5th claw sarge I assembled yesterday evening:

http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/3149/img0357cp.jpghttp://img818.imageshack.us/img818/5097/img0355ec.jpghttp://img839.imageshack.us/img839/899/img0356rf.jpg

It requires some work though. The main interest is bolt pistol design - what do you think, if all of my lords bodyguards will have such a gun?

And last, but not least: my first-ever try for sculpting a cloak!

http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/9256/img0354qx.jpghttp://img803.imageshack.us/img803/3568/img0353fv.jpghttp://img252.imageshack.us/img252/8649/img0351t.jpg

I think it looks nice for a first attempt, though it's far from end result and will be elaborated, but I really need any feedback, comments etc about it. Will you help me? :)

Cheers,

DV

Thats one of the best GS cloaks I have seen on here ! And as I understand it, modeling cloaks is one of the most difficult task in the GS business ! Respect !

I love the boltpistol on the half painted one!

Again fantastic stuff, very inspiring.

Have you read the Night lords novels at last ?

It doesn't matter, they're still good books and you still have a good army with an awesome feel to it. Besides, I was drawn to the Night Lords through Lord of the Night and I pretty much look at them differently than the "puritan" view that the books have.
Wonderful work, as always, my friend. Many of your conversions remind me of Dan the Daemon's Night Lords, and I do not say this lightly. Keep up the the high standards you've been achieving, man. I'll be looking forward to see what else you got up your sleeve!

Kol_Saresk

Well I'm not exactly sure what NLs in books described like, so I had no basis and no stereotypes about them. I believe that's fine, while I can make my own version of NLs. And speaking of my view - I really like dark knight theme, without any mutations, twists, religion etc. That concept isn't constant though :jaw: any deviations show corruption of the Curze's believes, what is unavoidable for ten thousand years.

1000heathens

Thanks  I swear I saw Dan the Daemon twice here, and I wish he could say something about my work, 'cause I always keep in mind his 18th Night Lords company and it was his army that influenced my decision to start with VIII Legion. And speaking of what I got in my sleeves - I dunno myself :D inspiration and ideas comes from nowhere. We'll see.

I think I'll try today to start working on Azanael or/and bodyguards.

That's all good. I just prefer the "corrupt radicals" because they get more toys. And I can make fluff without making a super-Batman who kills hive gangers in Gotham Primarius. Something like that always seems to happen when I make a puritan. Don't know why. Although I really did like Zso Sahaal at the beginning because he was a corrupt puritan. If that makes any sense.

EDIT: You still got a great looking army!

AVE DOMINUS NOX, ladies and gentlemen! :)

Another little update for my army. I've almost finished first raptor and I've assembled last raptor for my squad. Here they are:

And minor progress with bodyguards for Azanael:

Comments are always warm welcomed!

AVE DOMINUS NOX, ladies and gentlemen!

So, today I've finally finished my second squad. Here these guys are:

As you know, I tried new paint scheme for the armor, and I hope it looks better now. So comments and criticism are warm welcomed!

Alright, 21 models (Apothecary and 2 squads) of 49 are painted, well I'll try to finish this as fast as I can. I'm waiting for two more boxes though, so dreadnought and Atramentar are still waiting for their bits. I have something to show though... but a bit later ^_^

Cheers, DV

Wow DarkVen... there's just so much character in the squad. The poses and little details all over the place are great. I'm the kind of person who likes to see things 'come together', and the paint does it. Your conversions are so great, but they really get to the next level with paint. I really like the new paint - the nice blend mixed with the smooth line highlighting is excellent, and the lightning bolts are subtle but striking.

When you display them, always put the Plasma-gunner with the 'hold-and-wait' pose out in front. His pose makes me think the rest of the squad is waiting on his signal to open fire.

Azanael is progressing really well. All I can do is echo the other praise. That cloak hangs so well, it just feels right. And don't even get me stared on the Raptors... So many little details like the (looks like) molded Meltagun and tweaked 'Zerker shoulder pad, all amazing. I always look forward to seeing more.

Thanks guys for your kind comments :D I try do my bests, though I not reach accuracy I want to reach with painting. I wish I had more time to paint, but there always lack of it when you're studying.

I work currently on vehicles and veterans, so I'll post progress in day or two.

Subtle Discord

Well small explanation: this guy with cloak is just one of the command squad. Azanael is still waiting for a concept-drawing and isn't even full-assembled. I also think that it'll be properly, if Azanael will be last model in this force to build - this way I can involve all of my skills and experience for him.

Biohazard

Thanks ;) as long as Night Lords don't have any specific armor details (not to speak of symbolics), I think raptor shoulder pads fit them really good.

Midnight Runner

Well my skills aren't something incredible! :) I just do what everyone can do.

Quixus

Well I haven't thought about meaning of metallic helmets seriously. Though this ideas was taken from previous codex, so I think that golden helmets can designate veterans of the squad.

Red gloves - both 'yes' and 'no' (as far as I know). They show that marine is damned. But I changed this system a bit: one red glove means damnation and that marine will have to perform worst and dangerous missions, and two red gloves means immediate execution (as soon as there will be replacement for the condemned one).

Not so long ago I've assembled veterans for my chosen squad, but I've completed main part of the sculpting just today. I'll add small details and maybe some additional ornaments later, but the main concept will remain unchanged. So I haven't any clear idea about these guys, though I'm happy how they've turned out: overpowered regular marines, and every has own character of some sort. They also use battle knives instead of chain swords - nice close combat weapon, if they will operate stealthy behind enemy lines. So it was almost first serious attempt for sculpting fingers, and it looks nice, and I appreciate any comments and criticism.

Close-ups:

http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/610/vetsquadm2.jpg

http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/5748/vetsquadm3.jpg

So, I see the light in the end of this tunnel :P I think that Azanael, raptor-like Daemon Prince and Land Raider 'Glardus Meldeth' will be included in my first expansion for this force - just another 2000 pts army, much more 'radical' for NL's. At this point I just need finish bodyguards and raptor squad - all other models are almost finished. I will post all of the progress soon.

Cheers,

DV
