Yeah, i should have bought Korvydae, exactly for the reasons you gave. I've restricted myself too much with the order at FW sweat.gif

I'm not UK but thank you for the proposal ! I think I should buy that damn Korvy soon, he should make a pretty cool assault squad sarge, shouldn't he ? ^^

I used his body for my Vanguard Veteran Sgt. I'm REALLY happy with how he looks

I actually read through your entire thread again. So ramble time.

Firstly, yes. He would make a very cool any kind of assault type sergeant. My other two will because I had/have three and thus secondly...

France. Okay, Europe. Right, that is doable as it is close enough I can trust it not to go AWOL or get stamped on, or eaten by bears etc. PM an address and I'll mail it first thing. I practically live in the Post Office at the moment anyway due to eBaying initially an insane amount of miniatures (now just excessive) and now D&D books as I may/probably will be going to Austrailia for 4 years and I am not lugging it all there. It is a very long swim as is.

Incidentally I should be able to converse back in fluent French except I grew up in Africa so I can talk at animals, who generally don't talk back. And I mean animals, as in scorpions/spiders/snakes/leopards/phoenixes, not being racialist.

Erm...where was I?

*counts*....thirdly. Having read everything again I think you should actually be commended for your restrained approach. It is far too easy to spend money like a man with no arms at FW.

As far as I can see you have a basic plastic tactical squad (10 men) and an old land speeder (which is suggestive of the old 3rd edition box set contents), another plastic tactical squad (maybe, that would be another 10), a GK plastic box set (5 men), a BA SG box set (5 men), a pack of FW MKIIIs (so 5 more men), some FW RG vet stuff to add some bling and odds and sods from other boxed sets suggestive of bitz shopping or an old bitz box (dread heavy flamer, plasma cannon etc).

From this you are producing a very characterful army and have got your HQ, an elites, two troops, and a fast attack choice out of it. Note, no idea where you got the bits for Oberon (looks like a GK/DW collision) but he can be the exception that totally undermines my point.

It is like you are deliberately limiting and restraining yourself but still produce excellent kitbashes and dynamic conversions. There is an art to working with what you've got, one I could do with learning rather than making GW shareholders rub their hands in glee everytime I get a new project idea and buy all the parts first smile.png One I am sort of learning with my Skulltakers. Note the "sort of" smile.png

Incidentally, and rather ironically, I did get a dog (albeit for the missus) and I was actually blinded for a year but the two weren't related. Must have been the dazzling light of a Phoenix or something msn-wink.gif

I laughed hard at your post Marius :D

You are certainely working for Scotland yard with such a talent for inquiry :) The thing is I also have a DK termi and a DW box, that I used for Oberon (and will for my next Termi squads / HQ). And you're right, as a good father I try to manage my orders at GW/FW/etc to build and paint minis and not only stacking sprues :) However, due to my rythm of painting, it's a failure ("sort of").

Let's go back to my tac squad and Oberon...

So, I've lost some time due to the fact that I originally planed my second tac squad to be done with DV marines (=DA).

After spending "some" time to assemble and clean them (the shoulder pads took some time), I realised the squad was ... dull.

So I decided to keep 2 of them and kitbash the others to have a somewhat more appealing squad (even if it's only a tac). In fact, with time we became sort of "kitbashoholic" biggrin.png

So I built 4 tac marines (1 is only a slight change from the DV sergeant) and began painting the 2 dull ones. I put photos so that you can see the PIP on the marines. I always finish the yellow first. Next step, the black.

The base is a 1-1 mix of golden yellow and Iyanden darksun.

Then I mix fiery orange for the firsts shadows, and add scorched brown for the last ones.

The highlights are simply golden yellow, then + white. Some dots of white to finish.

ah, and I use brown ink for lining.

Thank you guys for the comments.

Oberon is now finished (added some details & loin cloth). He's got a new head thanks to Marius Pedro (thanks.gif ) and definitely he pleases me like that.

I will begin painting him alongside with the tactical to avoid boredom. The banner will be my first attempt at a big freehand (phoenix of course) unsure.png

Hope you like him !

@Greyall : thanks mate, it's motivating to be supported by such a talented man !

@ Anaziel : thanks, I need to find something to draw before. have a fiew ideas, expect fire :)

Two more brothers for the Phoenix Knights ! The expeditionnary force under the command of Connétable Oberon, lord-captain of the IInd company is slowly growing smile.png

The two exterior ones have been painted before the sternies, so around 2 years ago :D

I've made progress and slightly changed the technique on my marines. The new ones are warmer, better and painted in less time than the olders. I hoped it wound'nt be noticeable sweat.gif

Well the new technique looks warmer, almost as heck if they were glowing, quite fitting for an chapter called Phoenix Knights haha, they look great.

hm.... debating whether or not I wanna paint a unit of these guys just because they are rather AWESOME biggrin.png

Ahah thank you man, I encourage you, join the Phoenix Knights expeditionnary force ! :D

Btw, a lot of work keeps me away from painting unfortunately, but I make progress on captain Oberon. I also managed to take an "army" shot, the first one since the beginning :

I'd like this force to expand faster ...

  • 2 weeks later...

Small update : I've nearly finished two more tacticals (only the bases to do) & I progress on captain Oberon. I've finished the bottom part :

At last, I've jumped on the Grotsmasha's chaplain conversion contest bandwagon. It's a good occasion to add a chaplain to the Phoenix Knights and force me to do something original (at least try to). I will come with wip photos for options.

Uhhh blue-black armour for the captain. Will that be the colour for all terminators? Or just this one special guy? It looks good, perfect for standing out amongst the yellow.

I think he will be the only one in full black armor (for now). Haven't made my choice for the cloak (red, yellow, etc).

Termis will have the same scheme as sternguards, ie yellow with black pauldrons and helmet.
