Some of you have asked me for an actual army shot. Well, here it is... My crusade after working on it for 6 months... (About halfway finished... :-)

Brother I don't think you are ever going to lose a game, since they would all pretty much go like this.

Madmatt enters LGS to put some xenos to the sword.

Local dude says yeah I'll play, and wins roll off to go first, deploys his army.

Madmatt then proceeds to deploy his army.

Local dude dies from the pure awesomeness displayed before him, Madmatt wins, rinse repeat as necassary.

I´ve built a Techmarine for my crusade as there have to be some people taking care of the dreadnoughts. He is one of three that will accompany my crusade. There will be two normal Techs and some kind of Master of the Forge in Servo Harness. Up to date I´m still not sure about Servitors as I don´t like the GW ones.

Here is Brother Techmarine Ludwig...

He took quite some hours to be built: Bionic arm and leg from maxmini, Devastor Sergeant backpack, Tactical Sergeant bionic head, converted and elongated axe and of course the homemade servo-arm which consists of the Valkyrie Heavy Bolter sponsons and pieces of the grabbing arm of the FW Bombard. He will be my next painting project BUT i´m not sure if I should paint him primarily red or black... ... Any ideas?

it is his ordained duty to appease the machine spirit. and machine spirits are suckers for red. or so the Adeptus Mechanicus tells me.

by the book, it says that techmarines adopt a mostly red scheme, taking care not to obscure any Chapter iconography or colors.

i'd go red, slap some crosses on there, and black and white shoulders.

i'm sure whatever you put your mind to will be great-looking either way, but the red would help him really pop out in your force.

While the Techmarine´s basecoat totally dries, I finished these two...

The other ones that will join it will be less decorated for sure...

I'm a bit late discovering this gem of a log but even though the army is looking brilliant I have to say that Contemptor is truly fantastic. Fantastic yet subtle conversion that really works brilliantly topped off with a fantastic paint job. :D

Painting the Techmarine has gone well so far and painting red armor instead of black is a refreshment, I can tell you!

Techmarine Ludwig is far from being done, but I want to share a quick WIP with you...

wut reds did you use brother?

I used the Andrea Colors Red Paint (ACRP) set as mixing base. The first layer has been done with the ACRP 2nd shadow + Revell Aqua Color Matt Black + very, very little GW Regal Blue. It´s quite dark purple then, but that´s perfect for red shadows. 2nd and 3rd layer was the mix of layer 1 + 50 % ACRP Base color, 4th-6th layer was the mix of layer 2-3 + 30 % ACRP 2nd Highlight, 7-9th layer was ACRP 2nd Highlight + 50 % water. Sounds more complicated than it actually was. The read armour only took about 1 1/2 hours (especially as one leg, one arm, the head and the breast didn´t need read paint :HQ: )

Dude would you be annoyed if I blatantly stole your Contemptor idea with the Tabard?

I have been playing with the idea of getting a contemptor for a while and I think you just sold me on it. My plan is to get one and have him painted so that some of the original IF stuff is showing through to signify he was originally part of the 1st IF but went across to the BT when they were created. I just love the look you have given him!

Was wondering how do you paint your tabards? Everything looks great.

First layer is a watered down mix of bestial brown, kommando Khaki, tiny drop of hawk turquise, Fortress Grey and Codex grey. Then I divide the mixed color in two spots and add some more Badab Black and chaos BLack to one half of the mix for the shadows and some Bleached Bone to the other half for the highlights. You can stick to Kommando Khaki + Codex Grey if you want to keep it a little easier. Will do only minor difference.
