Akan's Reavers

Well the warp Patron could be someone who wants to cause some mischief. Like the Joker. And what better way to cause mischief than to give some crazy maniacs some extra strength, regeneration or even some precognition? He/she/it could even be a secret supporter/weapon of Akan's. That's what makes Chao so great. Anything and everything is possible.
Just re-reading the thread, updating Maximillian DeWitt's entries.

I wanted to evoke Night Lord and Raven Guard imagery as they're the classic fear/stealth archetypes, but just because someone looks like someone else, doesn't mean he is that person. There's at least on other Legion I could potentially tie him to now I think about it, but I rather like the mystery- hence the lack of a "real name", or iconography, the brain starts to fill in details and it adds to the story. Well IMO anyway.

The Colossus

@The Colossus - Nightmare could be Alpha legion aswell methinks.

I am not Alpharius. Then again, maybe I am. ;) I do have a specific idea of who Nightmare is, and I have most of his backstory fleshed out, BUT I kinda like that people are guessing as to whom he is. It adds to his mystery, and I think that's an integral part of his character, removing it is like removing his soul... If he still has one to call his own. Who knows what infernal bargains he has made?

@1000heathens As long as the patron was more tied to Akan, rather then the warband as a whole, I think it would be pretty cool. The rest of the Marines have their own disparate agendas and patrons, so to force it upon them would be detrimental I think. What about a former member ally/member that has ascended to Daemonhood, but has lost so much of his humanity that he is considered a Daemon of the Warp rather than a Daemon Prince that used to be a Marine. Perhaps only Akan knows knows the truth of the matter. Just a random idea I just thought of whilst consuming far too much fried breakfast foodstuffs...

:)

That's actually a pretty clever idea, man. The minor warp entity / patron idea is more for a objective idea, something fun to build. An insane, prophecy screaming Astartes, chained down and half-warped, would be kinda cool. And don't worry about Nightmare, I've had an awesome idea for his build for a long time, you won't be disappointed...

Thanks for all the comments on Tritus, gents. Glad that the apathy effect is visible in the mini. I'm painting him as we speak, so I'll post him within a few days!

A little late but gotta say that is one impressive mini. Plus Nightmare is gonna be interesting.

As for the patron entity.....maybe not a patron but one who advises this little merry band but is also furthering his own ends in it? Like a symbiotic relationship. The entity gets a lot from giving to the reavers and the reavers get a lot from giving to the entity.

I've got this image of a warped astartes chained down in the middle of a hanger, with his arms broken free, and human serfs trying to re-chain his arms, but mostly getting eviscerated by the flailing chains and his claws, and getting thrown across the hangar when they get too close, whilst replacements are thrust towards him by some of the more sadistical members of the warband. I've horribly failed to describe the image I have in my head, by a large margin... It's the sounds I'm imagining, the roar of the chained one, the screams of the dying, the fearful pleas of the living, and the uncaring laughter of Akan's Reavers...

Ah I can't wait to see Nightmare, he is gonna rock

Thanks yogi!

I'll knock around some ideas for an enslaved prophet objective marker, to hell with the patron idea

I've run into a bit of a fluff dilemma with our icon bearers, unfortunetly. I was going to go for giant banners, marked with the mutated red skeleton flowing in the breeze. Problem is, our forces mostly conduct boarding actions, or during planetary assaults, are dropping in dreadclaws and storming a keep / fortress / base. Giant banners and enclosed spaces generally don't mix. What do you guys think of back banners instead? Or do you have any other thoughts or ideas?

One idea maybe,is that the icon bearers could be Shield Bearers? Carry a large siege shield/boarding shield, with the heraldry of the squad/Akan painted on it. Shield would therefor have to be blank of course, little prior ornamentation. Don't know if you could get these shields off forgeworld? (Thought I saw em) or just any smooth shield from other models. The Shield Bearers would also gain the prestige of being first out of the boarding pods, as they deploy in corridors to provide cover for their brethren

This totally works for me. I'd envision it as a large rectangular 'riot shield' type of affair.

Blood for the blood god, hides for the hide shield :)

Saa

.......or something like that

These? I reckon it would look pretty cool ;)

Edit: fixed link.

I personally still like the large banners. Because the idea of a red skele floating in the breeze is too good to pass on. It would look wicked on the TT aswell. I think sheilds are kinda weird.

Another option could be raised bases (so the marine stands out) with the marine dragging around/ holding aloft just a red skeleton. Or maybe just a smaller banner/back banner.

But common sense be damned big banners are cool, and considering 40k marines couldn't even ascend normal sized steps with their feet being so huge i don't think it matters, just imagine all the hallways are large. Crawling around matience hatches is for rats anyway.

1+ Big banners

Before you ask, the bit of white stuff on the base is the wet effects still drying. I just really wanted to post this fella before I went to bed, lol. Peacekeeper, I hope you like man!

Kyres is in process as we speak, as is the beginnings of Hastur Rook....
