Alrighty, here's introducing Brother Maynarr, Traitor of Orar, the Butcher of Lancia.

Once a proud member of the Sons of Orar chapter, Brother Maynarr devoted over a century in the service of the Emperor before falling under the influence of the Dark Gods. Maynarr often spent his time in quiet contemplation, eschewing his brothers company for solitary respite. Though not a powerful psyker, he did warrant full Librarian status. It was often that he accompanied his brothers to war, aiding them in their battles and victories - he sacrificed much to allow others the greater glory. Brother Maynarr felt ostracised from his fellows for his known powers - he felt the Librarius treated him as an asset to be deployed rather than a valued brother and the more superstitious of his comrades treated him like a threat.

En route to a new warzone, hearing whispers in the void, Maynarr listened to that which he should have ignored - at first it was little more than his inner-voice but in time it grew into a seperate presence. For weeks the space marine held debates within his mind, not knowing his rationale was being chewed and enjoyed by an outside power. Slowly Maynarr's thoughts changed, his loyalty eroded through false philosophical introspection and mere whispers. Through the warp, Maynarr was turned by the Thousand Son Warlord Set'Leth and his malignant wisdom, Maynarr's psyker powers were nurtured under his tutelage in secret. Ensuring his total corruption, Maynarr was coerced into executing what remained of his fellow chapter members at a crucial point during the Ospacia Uprising, personally putting down three brother marines to prove he was ready to move on. Two of the astartes he cared little for, they kept him at arms length and spoke rarely to him. The last, Brother Terrian, was worse. He acted as Maynarr's comrade in his presence but when his back was turned the older marine proved little more than a two-faced liar, speaking to others about whether Maynarr was 'stable'. For Maynarr, the Emperor hadn't seen fit to help him, perhaps other patrons might.

Over the years Brother Maynarr discovered the myriad ways of the Dark Gods, shown to him by Set'Leth until Maynarr left acrimoniously and struck out on his own into the Maelstrom. It may be that Maynarr proved to be a rash pupil - it is known that he slaughtered the people of Lancia Minoris in a series of rituals and conjurations culminating in the creation of Maynarr’s stave - this went counter to the machinations of Set'Leth, who dubbed him “the Butcher of Lancia” in scorn. It appears Maynarr may very well have fled from his former mentor as the renegade sports the head of a peer and fellow pupil on his belt, and uses what appears to be an ancient Legion bolter - perhaps Set'Leth's own. The Warlord has since off-handedly attempted to assassinate Maynarr using a few differing methods - all of which have ultimately failed their goal, though each has gotten closer than the last. One attempt cost Maynarr his left arm, another his jaw and the replacement bionics did little to assuage the hunted traitor.

Once free to set his own course, Brother Maynarr travelled throughout the Maelstrom, even attending Lord Blackheart's infamous court on occasion. For a great period, perhaps decades, Maynarr walked alone, rarely taking part in raids and even more rarely allying himself to the many warbands that exist. Joining the warband of Kharrax the Succulent, in time, proved to be a mistake. Although the prospect of making raids seemed little more than an afterthought, the small group that followed the ex-Violater were ill-disciplined and lacked focus. More often than not the motley band of the unbalanced and the insane raided when the opportunity arose, usually without thinking. Although suitably psychotic, Kharrax himself was far too unstable for Maynarr to trust and soon he felt it was time to leave. It was then that Maynarr met Akan's Reavers. As a rival to Kharrax's warband, Akan and his group had come into conflict with them more than once. The last meeting between them, before Maynarr had reason or chance to abandon Kharrax, saw the loss of Orrak Bane, Kharrax's number two, and the capture of Brother Maynarr by Maximillian DeWitt.

Maynarr was subjected to various forms of torture by the ex-Son of Medusa, conventional and arcane, and under such conditions eventually broke. Although he had no true loyalty to Kharrax, he resisted the ministrations of DeWitt until he was a bloody and torn mess. Afterward, his skin was tatooed in preparation of a summoning, the helots and cultists carefully inscribing his flesh for when the time came. To avoid an ignominious fate Maynarr pledged loyalty to the King of a Thousand Heathens before the final sigils were inked, forsaking all his former comrades, for what it was worth. Only for Akan Maynarr would now used his powers but existed far down the pecking order in the warband. Far too far, in Brother Maynarr's opinion. For now, though, he was of use.

Often, Maynarr inscribes his armour with warding sigils and hexes, to fend off possible possession - DeWitt has warned the ex-Son of Orar against removing his tattoos, if he valued his existence. These inscriptions, in turn, have allowed the Butcher of Lancia to turn aside psychic attacks better than his unadorned comrades, something that some of them regard as 'cheap tricks'. They have dampened his own powers, however, much to his chagrin. He has often considered taking the path of Tzeentch but, having seen what Set'Leth had become, still remains an unaligned follower of the Chaos powers.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sat, hunched over a glowing display in the darkened study, a cowled figure scrolled through the profiles of heretics and renegades within his 'Black File'. Although there was a degree of obscurity in the description of the renegades he was interested in, Inquisitor Helier recognized the profile of a renegade in the scratched red and white armour was, more likely than not, Brother Maynarr, the Butcher of Lancia. Bedecked in a tattered cloak, small fetishes and arcane charms, Brother Maynarr wore armour of singular heritage; a battered suit of mark four plate and an old mark four helmet despoiled by an eight pointed star etched into the forehead. As always the Inquisitor made a warding gesture when his eyes fell upon the star of Chaos. The bile in his throat was swallowed back down without a sound. The renegade appeared differently to the archive footage Helier was familiar with. He now had long white hair, at odds with his tan complexion whereas before it was short and black. The ex-Son of Orar still had his scarred, noble features yet a terrible balefire now burned from his eyes, his mouth, his nostrils and, of course, the gaps in his battered suit of maximus plate. The flames themselves burned blue and white and the apparent heat distorted the image, which was why Maynarr was still officially unidentified yet by the logis engines. The Inquisitor scrolled on.

Presented and submitted, I give you the Reavers' first Sorceror. I hope that was a good read (sorry for the Wall o' text). ^_^

@Olisredan

Nice Sorceror! Thank you for the inclusion of Maximillian DeWitt in your fluff.

One thing.

Everytime I say to myself the name Brother Maynarr I keep on thinking about Brother Maynard from Monty Python and The Holy Grail.

Consult The Book of Armaments....

Nice story and well done on the answer Olisredan. I had thought about a cyber dog, but had no idea that Forge World ever produced such a model, so nicely guessed. In regards to your story, it was well written, and I especially liked the Inquisitor bit at the end, a very colourful way of describing your heretic. Looking forward to seeing 1000heathens producing him, especially the warpfire coming out of his armour.

Well, to be honest, I felt a little apprehensive that I may be stepping on your toes by having DeWitt in the story but (after consultation) he seemed to be the best candidate for enacting 'experimental' torture without narking off Akan. :)

And the whole Monty Python thing - that was actually where the name came from. Good to see someone recognise the, ahem, pedigree. :)

Thanks, I added that bit when I realised I hadn't done much in terms of actually describing Maynarr. I think it fits it's purpose well enough while adding extra flavour. :)

especially the warpfire coming out of his armour.

The warpfire thing was inspired by an old picture from one of the second ed books. There's a lovely cookie in it for anyone who can guess which picture. :P

Hastur Rook, The Unyielding....

...Or, as I will know him until the day I get out of the hobby, Jigsaw, lol. This sonuvagun was an absolute beast to get together, but I'm finally happy with the results. So, we have here a former Imperial Fist, who was brought into the Eightfold Path by none other than the Iron Warriors. Stubborn, yet paranoid. I beefed up his warplate with tons of extra armour to represent both a desire to stand his ground, and protect his flesh, and chose the adamantium mace because...well, dammit, just because! lol. Deus Ex Ferrum requested Mk. VIII plate, so I ended up using and shaving down the Sang. Guard version of the chestplate, as it's stomach plate was perfect for adding further reinforcement. The bionic leg used to be a old CSM dread siegehammer arm, funny enough. I ended up using an old chronus helm I had laying around, as it looks alot like a Mk. VIII helm, but with a steel plate bolted to the front, which was perfect. That's a grenade dispenser on top of his pack, by the way, as I don't see Hastur wanting to release a weapon for even a second while in combat, plus it gives him a real 'walking fortress' feel when added to the insect-like armour. Hope you guys like him!

Crap, every time I come back to this thread, more brilliance appears! Rook looks insane, in a very good way.

... I'm tempted to guess at the old Weirdboy picture from Codex Imperialis, with his minderz holding him down and flames streaming out of his face wildly. It sprung to mind. ;)

Wow, that model looks awesome. In any other collection something like him would be considered a commander model with the time and effort put in to this complex beast. Excellent 'Jigsaw', Heathens. :tu:

Good guess, Zincite, but no. Fancy another guess? :P

....wow. He looks awesome. I had imagined him as a walking tank, with layered armor, some bionics, and an absolute refusal to die -- and you captured that perfectly.

I'm just going to sit here and marvel at the pictures for a while.

Can't believe I missed this thread.

First, I'd fallen in love with your loyalist scumbag Marines Malevolent, now this... I'm starting to love so much your projects Heathens, as much as I'm starting to hate your awesomeness.

Olis: Was that picture of the Salamanders Librarian from 2nd Edition?

Hang on... lemme check the picture a minute...

Nope. No sallies in the picture.

I'll give you guys a clue: There's a grey knight in the picture. ;)

Edit: Typo.

Ah. Pg 31, Codex Imperialis, with the Genestealer Magus burning out the Blood Angels?

I do so love that book. ^_^

;)

Excellent, Zincite, spot on. Yes, the warp fire coming from the eyes and the mouth etc. came from that image. :)

That...is a pissed off siege specialist right there....

@1000heathens - Great Model. I made the connection with the Grenade Launcher and thought of the Auxilliary Grenade Launcher, but then thought that C:CSM or C:Renegades do not have access to said War Gear.

But the sheer thought of having a Dreadnought Smoke Launcher / Grenade Dispensor Unit affixed to Hastur's back makes up extra Awesomeness!

Waiting for More!
