@Kierdale: Thanks for the input! I think the lightning effect is growing on me. At first I was a bit wary, but now I think its okay like you said. I think its just going to be practice, and taking those first steps is always the hardest. If I can get the method done pat, I want to do that to all my power weapons, so I have at least made a start! As for the Fists on the spear, I think I do the white background and see what it looks like. Oh and I had to represent the chapter somewhere (and cover up some other chapter badges) so I did whack on some brass etch on the left forearm and belt. Good eye;)

@Bongfu: Glad you like them! Thanks for the kind words and I hope to see more of your work in the future.

Thanks almightyjesus55, though I have tried and failed to do this a few times now. At least this one is somewhat decent to show. Hopefully I can get into the groove of doing these power weapons, and translate that back onto the rest of the force. In due time of course :P

Seconded, but I still think it looks awesome. Nothing says Imperial Fist can't be giant lizard slayers too!

Personally, I would have gone with resculpting the cloak to look like the hide of a polar bear, to tie in with Dorn's Inwit upbringing. Other than that, looking nice man!

I saw this and then thought......damn

That's a really good idea.

Though I think for now I'll keep the cloak as is and put that idea in my brain bank for a future project.

@Bongfu: Cheers! Well it is a large galaxy, I'm sure there are tons of scaly xenos to slay and take their pelt.

Hey dude, just blasted through your work and I'm so impressed and totally inspired!

Your boarding squad is up there as some of the coolest marines I've ever seen - I'm not sure who the coolest cat is. It's between Mr power fist beat down and Mr charging chainsword back hand. Seriously awesome work.

I've got ideas now for an iron cage army with brutalised fists and ultra assualt drops. Mk III boarding marines a must in the trenches!

Cheers SMcaptainAurelius, glad you like!

Had a lot of fun doing those boarding marines, and glad they turned out as well as they did! Though I will have to admit, it got a little tricky in the end to gt some different and interesting poses.

Still, glad you found something of use here, and wish you luck on your endeavors.

Well, sick kids tend to put a stop to much modeling hence the inactivity here. However I finally have a small update on a few things.

First up is the the Imperial Fist He'stan. Got a bit more colour on him now, though the inner cloak looks a little too plain, so I might try and add some depth there. The main problem was the Fists on the spear. I decided to make it black Fists with a white background, but as you can see, it draws the eye to the lines, not the Fists. So I'm thinking I'll inverse the colours and see what that does. Failing that, I might just do them gold. Any comments would be appreciated.

Lastly, I've finally got round to assembling my last Huscarl. Even before 6th Ed, I wanted this guy to have a power maul, so although in game it will still be a thunder hammer, I just wanted something different.

The main reason it took so long, is it took me quite some time to get a good pose. This one I'm happy with, as he is trudging forward and ready to commit any kind of violence the imagination cooks up. I also wanted a 'passive' pose so it would fit in with the rest of the Huscarls. Let me know what you think!

@Kierdale: Its strange as now those images don't show for me. I'll look into it and see if I can upload them again. Cheers for the comment on the HUscarl!

@almightyjesus55: Cheers! Will try and find some time to get those colours reversed. You wouldn't think one model would take so long.... Ahh well, the joys of parenthood.

@Kierdale: Yeah I don't know why they went missing, but hopefully these new ones stay.

Well, got a little time today to finish off him. Don't know if I'll add anything more to the challenge as time is not too good for me at the moment. Still, I probably meander and try and finish my last Huscarl. I've already got a name picked out for him, in homage to a video game that chewed up so much of my uni years. More on that later though.

Anyways here is the finished model. Quite pleased with how he turned out and am glad I finally took the plunge to do the lightning effects on the power weapon. Its definitely something I will do in future to my models, and depending on time I may go back and do it for a few of my stuff that is already finished.

As always any comments are most welcome.

Like my 40k Fists, I added his own heraldry.

I like the inverted colours on the Fist. Stands out very well.

@Kierdale: Thanks! I think the white was a good move. Next is the Huscarl. Got to try and paint him up before I forget the pelt recipe!

@almightyjesus55: Cheers! Quite happy with it myself. He has only been sitting waiting patiently for 6 months or more. Ahh well, all done now, just going to cruise slowly for the next model. All these painting challenges are awesome, but its good to take a little breather every now and then!

@Hogun: Cheers! For the yellow I do the following (though this is with the old GW paints, not sure how helpful that is to you, but I am planning on doing an updated scheme at some stage)

Prime Black

Two thin coats of Deneb Stone

Two coats of Golden Yellow

Wash with Devlan Mud/Agrax Earthshade (I use the new version now as I'm out of Devlan, Not too much difference to be honest)

Build up again with Golden Yellow (This can take a few coats, and they are thin coats, leaving the recesses dark)

Highlight Sunburst Yellow

Light wash of Gryphonne Sepia

Touch up with Golden Yellow

It seems like a lot, but I'm so used to it, it just flows for me now. That and I usually have other models on the table to give me a break from all the yellow.

For the green glow, I can't take the credit for that as I use this most excellent tutorial.

Hope that helps!

Yeah Syth that yellow you have is just perfect for the Sons of Dorn. I am still working on my yellow, but with your advice to water down my paint its looking better. Also alittle out of topic I' am soon gonna update my blog.
Looking good Syth, definitly better with the white fist on Vulkan. And the termies are going to rock! Ps I know what you mean with the kids keeping you away from the hobby, that is what they are there for though ha ha, they are always ill and you invariably catch it too (nothing too serious though I hope!)

@almightyjesus55: Yeah the yellow does take some time to get right. Took me many years on and off to get something i thought was decent. The thing is to keep trying. If you stick it out you will get there! Looking forward to your next update!

@Midnight Runner: Cheers! Yeah I finally used him in my first 6th Ed game last night. Twas a blast! And yeah, your right about the kids. They are great fro a break from the hobby, but when they get ill, maaaaannn it is tough hehe. Still all good now (Touch wood), and looking forward to getting started on the last Huscarl (Used them as well last night, and they did exactly what I thought they would, look awesome).
