@interkino: Cheers! I think this will definately be the last of the Huscarls I make. I have some parts to make more, but since Forge World are doing 30k books now, there is a chance they may do some of the iconic elite units. Still happy enough with the result. Though the lack of a deadline is stemming the progress on the Huscarl at the moment.

@Dorns_fist: Thanks Rob! They were real fun to use in my first 6th game as well.

@shiningstorm101: Thanks for the input shiningstorm101. I have to agree with you about the cloaks, as I had the same misgivings about them when I made them. But I imagined them all upon some high vantage point surrounding the primarch in a row, so to my mind it seemed to make some kind of sense. I thought it would bug me on the tabletop as well, but they just looked the part. Thanks for looking!

In other news, my progress on my last Huscarl is slow, but getting there. I have been thinking ahead for my next project for this army. As it stands now, using the Tempus Fugitives rules, I have around 1500 points, not including Dorn. Though for that many points, I really haven't got that many models. After thinking about my first game, I made a decision about some elements I'd like to add to my force.

The first is another tactical squad. I already have one made up and undercoated, but I really dislike painting tactical squads as it seems to take me forever. Probably not true in the sense of things but that's what it feels like to me. I will have to dig them out and take a few pics of them, as I'm sure I can add some more bits to them to make them a bit more interesting.

The second I want to add is another veteran squad/sternguard squad. At the moment I haven't got any Sternguard, and I think its past time I actually got a unit. Plus I really want to use some special models for it. At this stage I'm thinking of making it mainly MK IV and MK VI armour, as out of the later stages of armour, I like them the best, but we shall see if that survives contact with the enemy.

One project I really would like to do for this army is to make one of these. This is the awesome work of Machinator, and it was something that I new I was missing when I saw it. I have all the parts I need to make it other than a Baneblade kit, but we'll see what the taxman can give me to help me out on that score.

Anyways, enough waffle. Any thoughts, c&c is most welcome, and I will get to painting!

  • 2 weeks later...

Slight update, been a little busy with work, but am slowly making progress with the last Huscarl. Hopefully will finish him this week time depending.

So I though I might show my next project in the works, a tactical squad. My intention here is for it to be usable in both 30k and 40k. With that in mind, I made a squad out of Mk VI armour, and the Sgt has something special. In case you couldn't guess already, I quite like the old models, and beakie marines would be in my top 3 of cool looking armour. So here I have my first 5 of 10 marines for the tactical squad. I only like to paint in small numbers, as I quickly become disillusioned with large numbers of models to paint, hence why they spend a long time on sprues. But anyways, here are some pics.

The Sgt is based off the MK II veteran marine, as I loved that marine and his pose. I know I already have one, but couldn't resist having another. I gave him a combi-melta, as I don't have any combi-weapons on any of my Sgt's, plus this squad is going to be my melta squad (with a melta-gun and multi-melta). Some of the marines have a bit of red showing, but that is because they were salvaged from my old Blood Angels army, that even now languishes in the shed.

As always and c&c is most welcome.

@the damned artificer: Cheers! Yeah I can't wait to start the construction. But I really need to get my other models painted first, so the Fellblade will be my reward for good service.

@jeremy1391: Cheers! Yellow is just about patience really. Took me a long time to get the shade I liked, but it was worth it in the end.

Well, I have here the finished final member of the huscarl's, Zhao Yun.

Hope you like.

Next is my first 5 tactical marines in ML VI armour. As always and c&c is most welcome.

@The_son_of_Dorn: Although I'd love to get one of those blenders, I certainly wouldn't use one on one of those Fellblades! ;)

@Circus Nurgling: Thanks! For the eyes I use this tutorial. The final highlight is just a mix of Scorpion Green and Skull White (yes still on the old paints).

@almightyjesus55: Thanks! The power maul turned out well! For the should pads I used some from micro art studios. Though looking through their site to get the link, looks like they don't stock it at the moment ;) Just as well as I got enough to do what I want! And a few spare just in case. If I can find them I'll take a pic for you.

@Kierdale: Cheers! Yes at last it is complete. Very pleased with them. I think the only thing left is to find a groin piece for Zhao at some stage, as I ran out. May have to delve in to the abyss of the shed and see what I can find. Still, good to see them all completed.

@Midnight Runner: Thanks! Yeah I spent a lot of effort finding the right parts for them, and I'm glad other appreciate it! And a group shot for the kind sir.

@Dude with a Brush: Thanks! I think I have an army pic on page 10 of this thread. Its quite recent minus the last Huscarl here. I do agree with you about the cloaks, as that bothered me when I started planning them. But I didn't really see an easy solution, so resorted to what I had at hand. Still, I'm happy with them, so I'm content to move along. Maybe in the future I might do some more, and try and make sure the cloaks are more varied.

Fair do's, they look not to be messed with their boss in tow especially!! Some people don't like that version of Dorn, but I think it fits him well. You do know if (when!) Forge World make a version you won't be able to resist though, the being a true Fist.....

Anyways, kudos to them all :)

Thanks Midnight Runner! I've already resigned to the fact that when Forge World release their version of Dorn, or any Fist models, I must have it. My poor poor credit card.

Not a religious man at all, but amen to that :D Forge World have announced that they will officially ruin my economy forever XD

Lovely Huscarls, it just dawned on me that huscarl is an old scandinavian word (the wiki article) and this have me believing that Dorn and his boys might have some Danish blood in their veins :P Maybe that's why I like the imperial fists so much, cause they like me are actually Danes XD
