I'd say, especially considering my expansion plans for them ;)

My next forge world order will comprise at least a spartan, 2 deimos rhinos, a deimos predator (probably an executioner) and a couple of rapier batteries :P Then there's the minis I need as well :P

So no need to worry, they are my little love project :D

  • 4 weeks later...

Well, I have been rather idle on this front, but this new World Wide campaign vis Dakka Dakka, has got me excited, so I need to paint more Fists! Since apocalpyse games are worth I think I may bump up my Fellblade project, but I do at least want to paint 5 tactical marines first.

Looking at the new rules in regards to the fortifications, got me thinking I really would like some for my Fists. Since I love putting my Fists behind crenelations, I thought I would dig up a very old terrain project, and actually finish it off. My dad helped with the initial construction about 12 or so years ago, so really I just need to finish off the structure and add details. I'm thinking I could make it count as a Bastion for my games. First port of call I think however is to give it some walls, and sort out the access areas at the back. Also looking at the images, I need to smooth out the crenelations, possibly with green stuff or plaster filler, not sure yet. I was also thinking of base coating it in the GW spray primer. That any good?

Oh and some of you veterans may notice what piece of terrain it is based off ^_^

Let me know what you think.

I don't usually like wooden terrain, but I'm curious to see what you'll do with this. And the Chaos Blck spray is good, but you're better off getting a cheap can of matte black spray paint at your local DIY. Much cheaper and works just as weel (hopefully).

Anyway, best of luck with this ^_^

If you head on down to Super Cheap Auto, you can pick up cans of Export spray paint for about $3. Its actually pretty good stuff for what you pay, and there is a lot of variety in colours.

Nice look on the bastion. Probably needs a few more arches and other gothic-y stuff but I'm liking where this is heading.

@Battle-Brother Ludovic: Cheers! Though this is just the basic frame. The rest will be made up with plasticard and bits and bobs. Need to fit four heavy bolters on there somewhere and I do need a way to make a semi-circular turret.

@ThisisJimmy: Cheers! That sounds like a good idea. There's a few things I need to collect for this project, so I might swing by there. I'll try and find an old picture of the model I am working off, so you can see where I am going with this.

Nice!

Looks like the perfect home for some Imperial Fists!

It does remind me of some old 40k terrain kits waaaay back, ones made of card, perhaps some plastic bits in there too? Around the Necromunda-era..

This one is drawing inspiration from even further back. Have a look at the back of the 2nd edition Wargear Book.

I recognised the design of the fire base type building straight away. Lol. Although I do tend to pore over all my old 2nd edition books a lot. I'd suggest using a plaster filler over gs as it will give you a little more texture and will probably be a lot easier to work with and cheaper. Years ago a buddy and I made some trench pieces using polystyrene cover with Polyfilla. We'd mixed sand in with the filler to give it a much rougher texture. It was basic but once I was dry brushed up it looked half decent.

Finding my Wargear Book? Now that would be a treasure hunt worthy of Indy Jones!

Looking forward to seeing your work on it, Brother Syth!

@almightyjesus55: Thanks! I'm just glad my dad kept it all these years!

@Biohazard: Thanks for the tip. I was thinking for the ground of the bunker, using some textured plasticard, reminiscent of the industrial stuff you find. Though I haven't being able to find much on that. I agree with the plaster filler, as the last thing I want to to see the wood grain. Its a great base to start, and is very solid, but its meant to look be made of sterner stuff.

@Kierdale: Thanks! I actually always have all my 40k books dating back to Rogue Trader all within 20cm reach from this keyboard. Love the nostalgia from 2nd Ed, but then again that's when I started

@War Angel: Nice, what did you make yours out of? You still have any photo's of it? Would love to see it!

@wickedcarrot: Cheers! Bout time I did some terrain!

You still have them all close to hand? Well basecoat me jealous, a quick wash of envy and then highlight me with must-root-about-in-my-parent's-attic-next-time-I'm-back. :D I have my copy of Rogue Trader here with me but my 2nd ed. stuff is probably either in the aforementioned attic or has been thrown out.

Will you be painting it up with IF iconography?

Building it for use as a bastion or other fortification?

That's a good question. I'm not too sure. I could put some brass etch on there, but I was planning on painting it greyish or something. I do plan to use it as a bastion so I will put some weaponry on there.

I will ponder whether I should put some Fist stuff on there.

Well, I have a slight update here. Since there is another Imperial Fist Expansion going on, thought I'd join that too, and get some models done. This time however I'm not going crazy and making a huge pledge, though my pledge this time isn't small. I have vowed to do the following before the end of December; 10 Tactical Marines in MK VI armour, and my Fellblade. If I finish these in due time, then I might enlarge it and add something else, but that's all I will focus on.

Here is the first WIP shot of the tactical and Fellblade.

As you can see, there is a lot to do. The resin bits are from Machinator, which I got ages ago, so I can make my Fellblade. Hopefully tonight I can make a start on the Fellblade, and start assembling this massive kit.

In other news, my bastion hasn't gone unloved. I have added the sides, and am in the process of getting some detail for the wall sections. What I could use some advice on is in the original model (really need to upload a pic of it), there is a ramp on the right side. But I am thinking, that all the bunkers in the rulebook only have one access point, so why should I shoot my self in the foot? What I am after is ideas for what I can do with that section. I don't want a ramp or stairs, as that would put my troops at unnecessary risk. Thoughts?

Here are some pics anyway.

The problem with the ramp here. What to do what to do?

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Looking forward to seeing your Astartes and your Fellblade! However, I don't understand what you're talking about when you write about the bastion and the ramp. I just can't picture it in my head...

Ahh my apologies. In this picture, on the original model, there is a ramp on the right side, going from the battlements to the ground. My conundrum was that since the bastions in the rulebook all have 1 access point, there was no need for me to include this ramp. So I was looking for input on what to do in that blank space instead.

I found some pictures of the original model, so will be sure to upload them tonight.

Really looking forward to seeing the WIP on that fell blade Syth, should be suitably epic!

On the fort it's a tricky one, awkward space that, might be an idea to bring the walkway behind the battlements all the way across and the just blank off the open space below if you already have an access point. Granted, not exciting, but should be workable! Either way, good luck on both

I have started Construction on the Fellblade. I'm working off some WIP shots I found when Machinator did his Iron Breaker. There are however some subtle differences I have made to it, just to make it easier on me. Still, it involved a lot of cutting, and I still need to fill some gaps with GS, but at least you can see it start to take shape.

As always and c&c is most welcome.
