The Gauntlet of Fenris

@Conan: we can do that. What is on the books for us? I will go with a wolf guard in TDA to start off with. Wolf claw and a combi plasma for arms wit your approval.

Yeah that sounds good not sure what I should go with for a blood claw maybe a melta gun?

I'm going in as a Long Fang Pack Leader (counts as veteran Shield Maiden). Heavy bolter + missile launcher + flamer! and I still have 5pts left over for a pack mate. I'll set up far in the back taking out kraken with the missile launcher, and I'll switch over to a heavy bolter once my pack and I find ourselves surrounded. I'll use a flamer to keep them from close combat.

And this is why you NEVER BRING A SHIELD MAIDEN SHOPPING FOR WARGEAR!

Woah, w-t-f!? hahaha

Well, in the future, if there's ever another kraken hunt, I'll just bring the Strike Cruiser. No big deal. :cuss

Helmet? What is that? Oh, you mean the bucket. Naw, I just take the hit and return the favor usually with a table.

I would have, but I was out cold for twenty minutes.

In fairness it was a damn good throw.

Zynk, set up a throwing target for Ace and myself! We throw 5 axes, roll our throws on a D6 and post the results!

I should warn you, man, I wrote the codex entry on throwing chainaxes.

...I suddenly think I'm about to miss every shot.

Ah well.

Might need to borrow points from everyone else in the hunt to afford that, though.

Nice!! I got a spot. To be honest I kinda figured you would be all booked out, especially since I haven’t been able to reply as my home internet access have been down since the 27/aug (switching to a different distributor – with any luck is should be up and running tomorrow).

Luckily the public library was close by ^_^

Must say its exacting to hunt with the pack. You really know how to welcome an outlander....

So a big thanks to everyone for the warm welcome (and to you Maverik for not forgetting me :D - leave no pup behind) ...

Ale and Kraken rings here I come Muhaha

 you might want to re-read several post up..

----

Sorry for the delay folks! I'm just getting back to work this week, it's been awhile! six months worth of being in bed from the back injury. I will have something up hopefully tomorrow.

SNEAK PEAK!

Area Map

I'm just working out the last details. I was fortunate enough to play this scenario for fun with some friends. It felt more like a kill-team feel to it. Please feel free to start doing some fluff and storyline based on your packs and the map shown above. I apologize for the lack of updates. I've been busy with work and I went camping over the weekend.

Zynk, set up a throwing target for Ace and myself! We throw 5 axes, roll our throws on a D6 and post the results!

You... throw your weapons? :tu:

Back in my day we had sticks and a rock... and we had to SHARE the rock!

is that your sly slaaneshie way of saying that your throwing arm is worse than a 7 month old baby girl?

@ Mav: The Map looks great dude and no worries on the lack of updates, we all get that your going to be busy for a while.

Zynk, set up a throwing target for Ace and myself! We throw 5 axes, roll our throws on a D6 and post the results!

You... throw your weapons? :tu:

Back in my day we had sticks and a rock... and we had to SHARE the rock!

We are WARRIORS! We fight with bolters, knives, fists, spears or just plain cussed determination or grit!

Zynk, set up a throwing target for Ace and myself! We throw 5 axes, roll our throws on a D6 and post the results!

You... throw your weapons?

Back in my day we had sticks and a rock... and we had to SHARE the rock!

...You mean you don't throw yours? :P

Ok, I'm all for killing a few things in a melee with my Codex-Approved Throwing Chainaxe before I throw it into a heretic/xeno/etc sixty or more yards away, but not throwing it at all... well, let's just say I disapprove, and leave it at that.

If the Emperor didn't want me to throw axes into the enemies of mankind, He'd have smote the forgeworld that makes my axes with cleansing fire, or at least sent some marines to do so for Him.

EDIT:

Warhorse has it pretty much right. I once killed an Ork by kicking him to death after he broke both my arms. To be fair, I broke both of his right back before I finished him off.

@Conan: we can do that. What is on the books for us? I will go with a wolf guard in TDA to start off with. Wolf claw and a combi plasma for arms wit your approval.

Yeah that sounds good not sure what I should go with for a blood claw maybe a melta gun?

As a blood claw your BS is a bit low, but a melta would be a good idea. As it is I think we as a pair are going to have to be more selective about things since we will not have the firepower of a full pack backing us up.

Speaking of which... Are there any others that are ending up in low count packs? Or running solo? Send me a PM. Maybe we can work something out...

is that your sly slaaneshie way of saying that your throwing arm is worse than a 7 month old baby girl?

Interesting... a modification of the litany of the emperor's mercy. Do not seek death for he will find you, brother-wolf. ;)

We are WARRIORS! We fight with bolters, knives, fists, spears or just plain cussed determination or grit!

Aye, I'll be sure to toss chunks of my armor at my enemies from now on. Hell, I'll tear off my arms and throw them too.

If the Emperor didn't want me to throw axes into the enemies of mankind, He'd have smote the forgeworld that makes my axes with cleansing fire, or at least sent some marines to do so for Him.

I can understand in extreme and urgent circumstances where the need requires one to relinquish his weapon in a most glorious fashion. However, in 90% of situations there's a bolter for that and in 9% there's legs.

Also, swords are just plain superior B)

EDIT: Remembering Skrall, I will give you credit. Throwing chainaxes is pretty BA

Yeah can't just run into the krakens have to move stargetically

You... throw your bolter and your legs at people? That's pretty hardcore, brother, but I'll stick with the axe, thanks. :)

Also, it's easy enough to pick your weapon back up after you throw it into something. OK, that can get a bit tricky if the target doesn't die from the throw, but that's why I usually carry spares. ;)

Also, swords are just plain superior :P

For throwing? :D

...You're new to the 'ranged melee attack' game, aren't you? :D

EDIT:

Since the option to talk strategy has come up, what's the game-plan for The Dauntless Few?

Since we can only get three fighters on one tile (including the kraken), would hunting in two sub-packs to try and keep a two-against-one advantage against the beasts be the best plan, or should we move around in a big mob so nobody can be isolated, or am I over-thinking this? :D

No, No Ace. He's talking about how he likes stab people in the back with them. You know, what they say " Like father ( the lion ) Like son ( zynx ) ". Bad seeds beget bad seeds :3

'Brother' Death shall not find me, because he fears to tread in the shadow of the greatness of wolves.

I guess I can't argue against something that works, no matter how... plebeian... it is. I'll tell you this, back in my day weapons and armor were more precious than the foulest of air. To think of willingly relinquishing my weapons...

You mean "Sanguinius", right? (Ave Dominus Nox... Ave Imperator)

As for strategy, I think each squad should focus fire in "ranged close combat" and split up in close combat like you said mentioned, Ace.

Also, it's easy enough to pick your weapon back up after you throw it into something. OK, that can get a bit tricky if the target doesn't die from the throw, but that's why I usually carry spares. ;)

Bearing in mind I herald from a Chapter called the Infinity Knights, that prompts a sternly raised eyebrow. ;)

I'll convince you yet that there is merit in throwing stuff! Consider; there is an art in throwing axes. Just throwing and hoping for the best doesn't get the job done the way that trained badasses like Warhorse and myself can. :P

Anyway, my two deadliest weapons are on the end of my arms; loaning my axe to a heretic/xeno/whatever else's torso briefly doesn't diminish the threat I pose nor the damage I can do.

...Except against tanks and stuff, anyway. And krakens. Probably not gonna do too well at punching them out, come to think of it. :)

EDIT:

I loathe typos.

Especially when they follow me out of Liber.

Ace, just don't bring any DPs here, you know Decoy hates them!

Why would I bring a daemon pri- oh, double posts. Right. I'm on the same page as you now.

Shouldn't be a problem. In theory. B)

Careful. You know how destructive that Liber lot are :(

Destructive? Liberites? Wait, I'm confused. Which forum recently had visitors tearing the place up in a land raider again? Oh, that's right, it was you guys in the Liber. :P

Next to you, chaps, we're paragons of tranquility. ;)

:: SPECIAL SCENARIO ::

The long summer on Fenris has been intense this year; the eye of the wolf showed no mercy. Algae covered the shores around the southern islands. Vegetation grew to surreal proportions, causing thousands of kraken-spawn to boil out of the seas of Fenris. Alarmed filled all the scanners from both on orbit and from the mighty fortress known as the Fang. The brotherhood of the Iron Isles sealed their vaults, preparing for the onslaught and attack.

"Our scanners from both the Fang and on orbit, are seeing massive migratory movements of kraken-spawn. All heading towards the southern islands. This event has not been seen by the Old Wolf and of the sky warriors since the Anvil, Arjac rose to distinction and becoming the champion he is today. Unfortunately eleven of the twelve great companies are out on crusades across the galaxy. Only a single great company, along with a skeleton crew of Inglorious Drunkards stand watch over the Wolf Kingdom and the mighty stronghold known as the Fang. For those brave enough to heed the call. Help stop the advance of those kraken-spawn by running the gauntlet." - Hunt Master, MaveriK

We have to be more responsible with our words and actions, and try not to let the mindset cross over to other threads. This is the Fang, and we represent the Sons of Russ. Behave yourselves or see yourself cast out deep into the underfang.

:: SIDE QUEST RULES ::

1) Indicate your character's location and actions to a designated Hunt Master/Fleshmaker. Post your instructions, it helps keep track of everyone on the trend and keeps everyone entertained at the same time. Lastly... PRAY to the dice gods!

2) Only three users (including beast) may occupy one tile. Each character has the Independent special rule.

3) Users have an option to join a pack of up to a limit of 5 members. Your pack may team up with several other packs. The more the better! start a gang just in case other Astartes chapters decide to try the gauntlet of Fenris.

4) Users are allowed to move two tiles in any direction, and assault on their third. Close combat weapons are temporary and are destroyed or left behind as your character moves onto the next tile. You can throw weapons, which counts as your shooting. (SPECIAL SCENARIO: WARGEAR OPTIONS AVAILABLE)

5) Predator and Prey. Using a scatter dice will determine wind direction for an entire round. If you're upwind from your prey, the beast gains +1 Initiative. If you're downwind from your prey then you gain the +1 Initiative.

5) Once a user fails his armour save, a leadership roll is made to see if he can still stand and fight with negative modifiers (-1 WS, -1 A, -1 I) the player breaks off from combat and restarts one tile back in any direction from their current location. Once a user fails his final armour save, the character is rendered unconscious either waiting for his pack mates to bring him back to the tavern or the Fleshmaker to bring him back to the Fang.

6) Once a user kills 5 of the same beast type, he or she is granted league member status for the Inglorious Drunkards thread. Once a user kills 7 of the beast type, he or she is granted to challenge previous Inglorious Brawler champions to a solo fight.

The hunt master rolls 2d6; pick the highest roll and that number will indicate the number of kraken-spawn placed on the map.

gallery_24878_5332_112753.jpg

Kraken-spawn is one of Fenris mightiest sea-dwellers on Fenris. Each great year when the sun makes the land melt, and the oceans are once more full of activity the kraken releases his children. Scale spawned monstrosities, these monsters are known to attack many a fortified position by the hundreds.
