Russ Brother 92
ima going to move up to C5 and throw my spear at the krakken at E3... The wind whistling through his shaggy mane, Brother Russ sees his spear skim the water next to the beast... He crouchs low, steadying his hand... he readies another frost-edged spear, his war axe ever ready in his left palm... moving slowly northwards, taking a better aim at the beast as it makes it's slow progress towards him and his brothers... truesonofruss
Realizing now that I should be using older weaponry I am going to say my cc weapon was an old axe that obviously broke during headlong charge off of mountain and into Elk. So I revise my weapon list to that old axe and a hunting spear. So in this move D-7 to D-8 and chuck spear in the direction of the Elk. After that is said and done. Move on to D-9 and assuming this Elk made of awesome manages to shake off the spear as he did two blows from the axe I will charge into him and engage in hand to hoof combat. After being kicked by the elk and stunned slightly, the one who called himself a True Son of Russ shakes his head and finds his prey not far off. He tossed the remains of his old hunting axe a side and pulls the hunting spear off of his back. Running forward in the blinding speed gifted to him in his transformation to a sky god he charges forward levels the spear and releases. With a smile on his face he rushes forward in an attempt to beat his own spear to the Elk knowing that if he couldn't beat it, it would hit and maybe he could catch it by surprise while it was dealing with the incoming spear. He did know this though. That elk had something coming if it thought it was going to kick him and simply wonder off. This was the hunt, no wolf would back down because of a simple injury and no Son of Russ would back down even after knowing the face of death. Zynk Kaladin
Zynk's mind is ablaze with tactics, each possibility racing though his attention. He takes a half moment to collect his thoughts, each idea a beehive of activity being dissected and studied. Although his mind seemed to be over the battlefield as a chapter master's always is, his eyes pierced the nearest Wolfen with eagle eyed vigilance, not daring to lose concentration on the dangers charging towards the two warriors. Hmm, Mav said Grey Hunters shoot 4 tiles, so we won't be able to hit them at the moment. I think B2 will offer us a shot next turn because they move max 2 tiles putting the one at C8 somewhere in column 6. If we move to A1 right away we'll be out of range. So basically, Turn 2: We move to B2, but can't do anything this turn. Assuming C8 (ill call Target Priority Alpha) moves to A,B, or C6 and E9(Beta) moves to C7 Turn 3: We move to A1 then fire upon alpha. Alpha then moves to A,B, or C 4 and Beta goes to A, B, or C 5. Turn 4: We then charge Alpha. I think the limit is 3 people per tile, so Beta will not be able to charge us whilst we give the Emperor's mercy to Alpha. Turn 5+: After that we quickly charge Beta, giving our would be wolf-brothers no charge benefits. If we're lucky the wind will favor us when we charge. If not, then no biggie. Our local weather forecast, Turn 2(d6+1): The Storm Abates(2), Blinding Flurries(3,4), Brutal Winds(5,6), Howling Death(7) Turn 3(d6+2): Blinding Flurries(3,4), Brutal Winds(5,6), Howling Death(7,8) Turn 4(d6+3): Blinding Flurries(3), Brutal Winds(5,6), Howling Death(7,8), Ice-storms(9) Turn 5(d6+4): Brutal Winds(5,6), Howling Death(7,8), Ice-storms(9,10) I'm worried about the weather, to be honest. Fenris definitely cold and unforgiving and I'm already freezing my arse off. It's not like the beautiful forests and mountains of Palacon, moon of Daethos. We can cut the battle down a turn (and help our chances at good weather) by, Turn 2: Move to C3, Alpha moves to C6, Beta to C7 Turn 3: Charge Alpha Turn 4+: Assuming Alpha has been given rest, charge Beta Is chancing the weather a turn worth 1 turn of shooting? No effect. KRAKEN Small Kraken6064364104+ :: The Mighty Alliance :: Horst enjoyed the salt tang in the air and grinned to himself. It felt good to be with these younger pups, all raw courage and fired up for anything. Too long it had been since he had seen a kraken, and now he readied the sounder that would call the beast to them. He looked out over the cobalt seas and stopped his smile, wouldn't do to let the pups know he was actually enjoying himself, now would it? - Warhorse47, Grey Hunter (C5) As he checked his melta gun again for the 5th time Eyeslikethunder wondered what he had done to be assigned this mission. After hundreds of years exterminating the enemies of the Emperor across the great ocean of space here he was baby sitting some blood claws find some dumbass wolfguard who had got himself lost. He had heard the sagas of these Blood claws and some spoke of them as the next ragnars but he waited to pass judgement when he had seen them with his own eyes. At least the mighty Warhorse was here by his side. He knew with Warhorse by his side no challenge was too great no mission to hard. As he heard the engines tone change he knew their thunderhawk was coming into to land. The doors hissed as the seals opened the smell of salt wafted in and something else something much worse... This was going to be good day after all - eyeslikethunder, Grey Hunter (B5) This was a day of judgement, a start or an end of great sagas would be forged this day. A task had been set by their Lord and only it's completion could bring peace to the minds of this alliance. One of the revered Wolf Guard brethren had gone out on the hunt to sate his desire for glory, not one week ago. A week too long the Wolf lord had said, his return was required and his voice was needed in council and he must be brought back from the ice fields. So it was that five individuals had stood to retrieve this task, each had been counselled by the old man. Khine had stood because he had not liked the tone of distaste that had crept into the words of his lord. These smacked of dishonouring his teacher's name and he could not let that happen. Similar thoughts must have gone through his fellow pack member's mind as Russ Brother had stood soon after, as did three of the grey beards. They had set out in one of the companies thunderhawks gunships, which had irked the bloodclaw to no end. "Why had they not been allowed to search on foot?" these were words left unspoken on his tongue. The distance to the ice fields had not been a long journey. It would have only taken a day to arrive and return had they used their legs and perhaps there would have been a chance to hunt but not now.. Having landed the gunship on a relatively stable sheet of ice, the five of them had set out across the ice. The search had been slow going and treacherous, as the ice was melting and great fissures of water had appeared. It was like the very ocean had shrugged off it's own armour so that it could feel the sun on it's surface once more. He could not blame it for wishing for the sensation, the sun felt good against his head after he had removed the trapping of his own helmet. Cool breezes had caressed his skin as it had been exposed and he had breathed deeply, the sensation bringing his hunting instincts to the forefront of his conciousness. Something was not right, there was a bitter tang to the air but he could not place where he remembered the scent. Lowering himself down onto his haunches, he cast his gaze out over the expansive landscape of ocean and ice, searching for the source of the smell. Suddenly he was aware of where he had experienced this scent before, it was death. - Khine, Blood Claw (B5) (...) - Russ Brother 92, Blood Claw (C5) "The Mighty Alliance"... Dragan was smiling at the name adopted by their ragtag pack... He was watching his packmates - Warhorse and Eyeslikethunder the Grey Hunters alongside Khine and Russ Brother the Blood Claws - moving cautiously across the cold wastes of Fenris. Fenris could be harsh and deadly for those too proud of themselves. They were a mighty alliance indeed: a good mix of seasoned experience and youthful fury. Yes... maybe just the pack to succeed in this hunt and bring back to the Wolf Lord their lost battle brother. Without even realizing it he was now in a battle alert stance… He has catched a stirring in the cold morning breeze… a scent of ill omen… Yes… There was no mistaking the scent of one of most vicious predator of Fenris… the scent of a kraken! Dragan was grinning now. Fenris could be sweet for those seeking glory and adventure and a mighty hunt was ahead of them now! He could see that his packmates had catched the scent too and he moved to take position alongside the young Khine… - Dragan Stormwolf, Grey Hunter (B5) http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r35/Azn_MaveriK/Gauntlet/MightyAlliance-002.jpg SAGA OF THE MIGHTY ALLIANCE: KRAKEN HUNT FENRIS STORM UPDATE: FENRIS STORM UPDATE: The Storm Abates: The wind howls and snow smothers the ground. Isolate surround then eat i mean destroy. we dine on calamari tonight. As he saw his prey he banished thoughts of which sauce to use later.... He stalked up with his pack knowing that co-ordinated action would bring these beasts down. We felt the wolf rising up as danger and battle neared. Pulling out one his mighty battleaxes he aimed for the eyes and prayed to russ to guide his strike true. - eyeslikethunder, Grey Hunter (B5) Brother Russ looking around, his mentor and brother in arms Greybeard Horst projecting a great shadow across the land, on the ice flow a few metres to his right the rest of his makeshift pack the "Mighty Alliance" the young, battle-hungry Khine being held back by the ever-present sturdiness of Brother Eyeslikethunder (his melta purring like the frostwolf's growl on the wind) and Old Dragan his axe hanging loosely at his side, plasma pistol held at the ready... thinking to himself... "we truly are the mightiest pack in Fenris, we shall take the world beast's spawn to pieces and return with triumph and our lost brother... we SHALL bring our prize home!" Onwards Brothers, we are all sons of RUSS and children of Fenris! FENRIS HJOLDA! I'll be moving on the flailing beasty at E1 (move to D5 and when in range throw spear at baby-kraken "Beaky" situated at E1). Youngling Russ lifted his helmless head high, the shaggy green mane swirling in the icy winds... nose to the south he could just scent the beast as it prowled the icy depths of lake Sovngarde... (get this you win a cookie + ale) ...onwards he lurched, axe held in hand, spears wrapped in a tight bundle across his back, the ever present shadow of his Greybeard mentor in the distance, slowly fading as another young whelp of Fenris dares Fate to show it's hand and smite him, or accept his creating a new saga under the vigilant moons and keen wolf's howl... "Onwards my brothers and sisters, for we are children of RUSS and this day the beasts SHALL KNOW FEAR!!!" I have titled our 3 baby-kraken (on The Mighty Alliance hunt) thusly - A1 = Hjaafinger, E1 = Beaky and F9 = Mal-Ghaz. - Russ Brother 92, Blood Claw (D5) Dragan focused as he catches the scent of the beasts. The young Kraken prowled the land in search of a dinner and he had no intention of being their lunch! He quickly talked with his packmates using their battle slang and readied his bolter as they moved toward the northwestern beast. Around him the pack moved in concert like a finely tuned battle unit. For their first hunt together they were exceptionally attuned. It was the kind of kinship that makes him proud of being a "space wolf". [i move to B4 and fired at the A1 beast happy.gif ] - Dragan Stormwolf, Grey Hunter (B4) Something flashed from the surface of the ice off to his right for only the briefest of moments, but it was enough for the young son of Russ. His gaze snapped in the direction of the source, as it became clear what he had seen. Could it really be that they were in the hunting grounds of the legendary Krakken? A feral grin began to grow across his face, his muscles tensed as they were filled with combat stimuli and his focus was set. The rest of the pack were planning how best to hunt the mighty beast and he had not paid much attention to their words, that was until he heard a certain phrase from the one known as Warhorse. It appeared there were still two more of the beasts further south and what was more he had inadvertently thrown his lot in to keep watch while the others had their fun with the solo fel-horror. Cursing under his breath, he chided himself for getting into a situation like this and made a mental note to correct the failing. Once the plan had been decided on, they each clasped one another in the warriors grasp; all except young Russ brother. It appeared that Khine was not the only one that had not heard the entire conversation and he watched as the other bloodied claw moved towards the south. This was good, this gave him a chance to face the great beast first. Slowly he removed each of the axes from the belt at his waist and clasped the hilts tightly. He began to stalk forward, his focus set firmly on the shadow that moved to the north and a low keening sound began to reverberate in his throat. He did not get far as a thick hand grasped his shoulder and a single phrase halted him in his tracks. "Be patient young one.." I will head towards B4, throw an axe at the A1 beast then i will stand firm. -glares at Russ brother- ... - Khine, Blood Claw (B4) Not that he had ever been considered swift, the years had not slowed Horst down [he would still get even with Jonas someday for saying they needed a sundial to time his runs]he moved to close the flank between him and his hunting mates. Balancing the quickly made spear, watched, waiting for the opportunity to aim his throw accurately. Too late, he caught himself as he heard Khine's laugh "Caught you smiling Warhorse...." Going to B5. - Warhorse47, Grey Hunter (B5) ROUND ONE RESULTS: Both eyeslikethunder and Dragan fail at hitting the kraken with their weapons. Khine throws an axe, and it hits firm, wounding the kraken. The kraken fails it's wound and now has two wounds left. Russ Brother 92 moves towards the south, throwing his weapon at the kraken in the corner. He misses. http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r35/Azn_MaveriK/Gauntlet/MigthyAlliance-003.jpg SAGA OF THE MIGHTY ALLIANCE: KRAKEN HUNT FENRIS STORM UPDATE: Brutal Winds: The winds buffet and pummel anyone caught in the open. The hunt was well engaged by one member, Russ Brother, was alone... probably not a good idea with two krakens advancing toward you. Listening to Khine Dragan acknowledge his suggestion. The northern Kraken will be for them. After aiming at the beast Dragan thrown one of his spears before charging with a mighty howl ! For Russ! Hefting the second spear he made, he tries again for the krakken..... Moving to C5, throwing at the krakken in E3. - Warhorse47, Grey Hunter (C5) ROUND TWO RESULTS: Khine throws and hits the kraken with his axe, but his weapon doesn't even effect it. Khine then rushes towards the creature throwing himself wildly cursing and laughing at the same time. The insanity of the Blood Claw rushing at his foe affects the rest of the pack, motivating them to work harder. Dragan Stormwolf aids his packmate Khine with throwing weapons at the kraken. It hits, but does not inflict a wound. Dragan feeling the beast from within pounces at the kraken will a mighty howl. (M0TW roll =2). Russ Brother aims at his target but misses all completely. eyeslikethunder throws his warm spear at the kraken, hitting firmly and wounding the beast. It screams in terror... taking a wound. The kraken now has only two wounds left. Warhorse seeing the effectiveness of using the meltagun to warm the spear tip, uses the same tactic against an approaching kraken from the south western ridge. He hits and wounds the creature. The second kraken now has only two wounds left Meanwhile back at the melee of things... we find Khine and Dragan facing an angered kraken at the hands of eyeslikethunder. It strikes at the two warriors hitting three and wounding with two. Both Khine and Dragan make their saves. Khine lands one attack and wounds with it. Dragan lands three and wounds with two. The kraken makes two saves from Dragan's mighty blows, but was unable to save the wound from Khine, leaving the kraken with but a single wound left. Turn three weather forecast: Howling Death: Moving swiftly during an intense storm such as this can bring death. Users that travel more than two tiles on the map must take a Dangerous Terrain test. (If failed, user is stationary for a full turn in their tile) --NOTES-- I've fixed the Fenris Weather forecast, to indicate that turns weather conditions on the map itself. I've decided to just post the following turns weather update at the end of the turn. @Russ Brother, I wasn't really sure if you wanted me to throw your spear. So I opted to do so anyway to just help out your pack. This goes to all whom are participating. Pleas indicate if you are going to throw, or shoot at your target. It's hard to read into what your trying to say in your paragraphs. Your intentions may be hinted, subtle or not, but when it comes down role playing and rolling the dice, it's either a yes or no for the DM (Dungeon Master). --EDIT-- Ready for ROUND THREE. INSTRUCTIONS ARE A GO!!!! Movement, Shooting, Close Combat. You have 48hrs to have your instructions posted. The sooner I have them, the faster I can roll the dice and organize the gauntlet. The she-wolf known only as Skadi is just as beautiful, and deadly as any creature on Fenris. She stood tall and proud, moving swiftly and quietly like a mountain lion. Skadi was scouting out the terrain. The shield maiden of the Rout could sense it. The anticipation and tension in the air. Her heart was pounding faster now as she prepared for the hunt. Her long hair dark as a ravens, flowed gently along the cold winds of death. Skadi held onto her axe tighter, ready to prove her worth within the court of the wolf king an in the eyes of the Vlka Fenryka. The air was cold, and her skin felt numb. Breathing in the cold air was like having knives stab through your lungs. But this was nothing to a Fenris born, especially to a daughter of Fenris. This is home, and she's here along with her pack mates, to hunt one of it's greatest and most dangerous creatures. A kraken! - Skadi the She Wolf (Shield Maiden) (A7) look at Forte and shakes his head if he thinks he will get that Krakens head i he is in for a fight after i rip its arms off and then hack it peaces and rushes head first into the snowy waste with his trusty spear in hi shad and combat knife on his hip with an axe in a sheath on his back. - postal105 (C7) Loken stood out on the snowy tundra looking out over the vast white plains of Fenris he smiled exposing fangs as a westly wind blow across him it's icy touch caressing his un helmeted face he caught the scents of his pack mates on it as well as the scent of something else. It had been awhile since he'd been on a hunt like this. Thinking about it he couldn't remember the last time he had hunted like this. While Forte and Postal will scrap like pups for the Kraken's head, Loken is only interested in tearing out the monsters heart. - Loken86 (C8) http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r35/Azn_MaveriK/Gauntlet/KrakenHunt-002.jpg KRAKEN HUNT FENRIS STORM UPDATE: Blinding Flurries: The driving snow obscures all vision. All shooting attacks suffer a 25% penalty to their range, rounding fractions up. KRAKEN Small Kraken6064364104+ :: The Claws of Russ :: I'll go and fight the one at F5,i'll throw as much as i can while on my way - Arez Greenhorn (E3) I'm on that one with you. Wind in our faces to cover our scent. Looks like I'll get the first charge on it - forte (F5) This is the only beast that needs to be hunted as a pack! like true wolves we hunt together. Alone against a kraken, will bring doom and a visit from the fleshmakers. The foolish Greenhorn rushes towards the pray, failing to see the other kraken closest to him! I'm too far to warn the hot-headed fool so I will just have to do my best to distract the kraken before it gets in the way of my pack-mate. (Moving towards, while shooting at and attacking close combat at the kraken on D4) my the dice gods favor a daughter of Fenris. - Skadi the She Wolf (Shield Maiden) (mortally wounded) i will charge at the one at d4 smelling the stench of a kraken emerging from the sea and realizing that it is focusing on good old greenhorn mumbles to him self i cant let greenhorn get blind sided seeings how he seems to be not paying attention. - postal105 (mortally wounded) move towards D4 will launch spear while approaching then charge when in range. So who's for Sushi - Loken86 (D6) ROUND ONE RESULTS: Arez rushes off and throws a spear at the kraken at the far distance, and missing with his aim. Skadi throws a spear at the kraken closest to Arez, that was ready to blindside the Blood Claw. Skadi's aim was true, landing an attack and managing to wound the kraken. The kraken makes it's save. Skadi and postal make it to close combat against the kraken, before it could harm the Greenhorn. The new whelp, Loken follows his pack mates and throws a spear at the kraken, he misses. Loken moves closer towards the kraken, but was unable to join in the melee. forte seeing Greenhorn try to dash after the first kraken runs charges at the monster, easily getting into close combat. The kraken lands two attacks at forte, and wounding him with one. forte fails his save, but makes his Ld test. forte against all odds, manages to land one attack and wound with one. The kraken fails one wound, and now has two wounds remaining. Meanwhile.... the second kraken lands two attacks on Skadi, and two attacks on postal. The kraken wounds Skadi with one and postal with two. Skadi fails her save, and does not make her Ld test. She is the first to fall at the gauntlet of Fenris. postal fails his two saves and follows Skadi into the cold sleep. Both waiting for the fleshmaker Dammot to come and wake them after the hunt. http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r35/Azn_MaveriK/Gauntlet/KrakenHunt-003.jpg KRAKEN HUNT FENRIS STORM UPDATE: Blinding Flurries: The driving snow obscures all vision. All shooting attacks suffer a 25% penalty to their range, rounding fractions up. KRAKEN Small Kraken6064364104+ :: The Claws of Russ :: HOOOOWWWWLLLL I watch as my spear goes wide of the target I feel the my wolf spirit's rage rise as two of my packmates fall to the Kracken I vow to avenge them both. Placing a hand on my wolf tooth necklace I offer a prayer to Russ and the All Father to guide my spear true this time. Ok lets not miss this time launch a second spear(or whatever i have left to throw) at the Kracken @ D4 and then change it - Loken86 (D4) INJURED well that didnt work......I'll help forte then loken then us three can take out the top kraken.By Russ I will avenge Skadi and Postal - Arez Greenhorn (F5) Let take these beasts down. - forte (mortally wounded) ROUND TWO RESULTS: Loken hits the kraken but does not wound the beast. He growls in defiance and launches himself at the beast, howling all the way while screaming for vengence. Arez unable to aim at the kraken already in close combat with forte rushes in with a beserk charge. Meanwhile back at Loken's fight, the kraken strikes first, hitting the Blood Claw twice, and wounding the young warrior twice. Fails one save, but makes his Ld test. Now fighting wounded Loken keeps going striking with a blizzard of attacks he strikes and hits will three and wounds with all three. "For Skadi, for postal, for FENRIS!!!" he shouts out, as the cold winds howl in return. The kraken makes two save and fails one. The kraken now only has two wounds left. Back at the kraken facing forte and Arez, the kraken inflicts a single wound on each of the two warriors. Wounding only forte. forte fails his save along with his Ld test. (I rolled two box cars). In return Arez lands two attacks and lands one wound. The kraken makes it's save. Turn Three weather forecast is as follows: Howling Death: Moving swiftly during an intense storm such as this can bring death. Users that travel more than two tiles on the map must take a Dangerous Terrain test. (If failed, user is stationary for a full turn in their tile) --EDIT-- Ready for ROUND THREE. INSTRUCTIONS ARE A GO!!!! Movement, Shooting, Close Combat. You have 48hrs to have your instructions posted. The sooner I have them, the faster I can roll the dice and organize the gauntlet.
