Some updates.

Predator's had some detailing done:

More lenses to do, finish out the bone panels and then checker the front two (Fourth Company, after all!), highlights on the guns, weathering, etc.

Here's a plasma gunner I whipped up for a game on Thursday in about threeish hours using Elmo's fabulous robes recipe. He's not totally done either:

And some better pictures of my successor test model:

Additionally, the successor chapter... NOW HAS A NAME: the Angels Ardent. More humanitarian, a little more pragmatic, and far more outwardly zealous, the Angels Ardent are a fleet-based crusading spinoff chapter that still shares the stubbornness and tactical prowess of their genetic lineage. If I do put together a force for them, I'm really torn about which 'dex to run them under - my first thought's BT but I have concerns about the actual codex itself. The plan is for their tactical genius to come through "expertly applying the assets they happen to have" and allow a high degree of individuality for their member marines in how they wish to equip - which can run as BT, SW, or possibly even BA. I'd like to get an IA/BoA writeup done for them soon.

They also have some updated, mostly final colors from the SM painter, except that the backpack halves should be flipped to match the model.

Love the grim-looking predator, especially the checks.

Thanks Cactus! :D

I'd really like to get some weathering powders to apply liberally across the entire tank, the top looks a lot lot cleaner in person than it probably should given how muddy the bottom looks - I think a good even dusting would unify the whole thing nicely.

Typhoon's done, fulfilling my LPC and my January PtR vows!

First, partially WIP: I'd done the first drybrush pass at this point I think, but after that I just kinda cranked everything out. I hope these photos suffice for the LPC.

Nice work - but just to be picky you missed the skull on the side of the melta whistling.gif

Can you get better pictures as the ones I can see seem to be a little washed out?

Ooops! Good catch!

yeah, I'll take some with my actual camera soon, my cell phone ain't so great and I should stop posting everything with it

First of the DV minis mostly done. Bone needs highlighting, some cleanups need to be done.

I completely drenched his red parts in Nuln oil and it pooled way too much. Next guy will be more careful about keeping it to the recesses. I'm also not sure the Vallejo brown ink is dark enough for shading (went bone -> brown ink -> more bone), but I'm not sure what else to use. Been using Arkley's wonderful red recipe (how much Blood Red are you applying in that?) and the Bone recipe from here.

Any feedback?

The pictures are far better now thanks.gif

The problem with large photos is that people can see every little mistake ;)

Your speeder looks good but could do with a tidy up around the missile heads and there are a couple of rouge red bits on the missile box cowling - like I said, close ups show it all :)

The red on the marine looks ok in the picture and for the bone shading I use devlin mud (I have Vallejo Brown ink but not got around to using it yet). Try another couple of layers of the ink in the recesses to make it darker.

Artemid, I think your trial Marine looks very nice, interesting quartered scheme with a nice deep red. If you aren't quite pleased with the bone and want some more depth, I would suggest actually starting with Mournfang Brown (old color Bestial Brown) and wash that with Agrax Earthshade (old color Devlan Mud). Then you can either build up the Mournfang/Bestial Brown again, transition to Zandri Dust (1:1 Bestial Brown:Bleached Bone), then Ushabti Bone (Bleached Bone), then Screaming Skull (1:1 Bleached Bone:Skull White). I usually stop there, but you could do a final highlight with White Scar (Skull White). I do really like your scheme though, it looks very cool and pretty unique. An army of this scheme should look very striking.

Gotcha!

Thanks guys! biggrin.png

I actually can't find my Agrax Earthshade, it ran off somewhere. Was going to use it on the red actually, but it'd probably work pretty well for the bone too.

Also - good call on the 'phoon botches. I'll probably only get around to fixing them when I go ahead and spiffy up the base for it though. Might pop the MM off and magnetize for the HB option too... not super sure I'm going to keep fielding them, he says after having put together all three!

edit: and a somewhat better pic, also post-tweaks. with my new phone, nonetheless.
