Great work on the termies thumbsup.gif. Looking very menacing with their energy crackling hammers.

I love the effect, how did you do it? (I'd like to steal it.. smile.png )

Thanks! It's pretty easy, actually:

1) Paint the hammer like normal (here, Boltgun Metal/Leadbelcher, washed with Nuln Oil, Dwarf Bronze for details)

2) Paint your lightning crackles with a dark blue. I'm using Vallejo Game Color Imperial Blue - probably Regal Blue for GW. These lines can be fatter because you'll go over them later.

3) Go over your crackles with Ultrasmurfs blue. Try stay inside the dark blue base a bit so you can still see a bit of the edge.

4) Go over the crackles again with more careful applications of straight white. This is the pass that really makes them pop, but it helps a lot to keep the white lines thinner so you can really see the blue behind it.

That's it! If you want to get fancy you can blend the colors up, add more stages, glaze the thing afterwords, etcetc. You could easily switch colors too, it's just dark color/light color/white getting successively thinner - but it's very time efficient for the impact I think :)

Big fan of your previous DW here so can't wait to see more progress on these guys. Best of luck with your vow.

Cheers

I

Thanks I! I'm really debating trying out some weathering this go around - paint on some gashes and holes, maybe (maybe!) do some sponging, and I have FW weathering powders in the mail. Only, I'm not sure that painted damage would look that great with the heavily drybrushed armor that already looks very textured, unlike painting damage onto flatter or blended colors. Thoughts, anyone?

The quartered scheme for the successor chapter is awesome!

Thanks man! When I finish up these Termis I want to go back and finish those guys up. And I think I really want to use the new FW Praetor kit to make their Chapter Master because the model is that good, even though it's not what I'd been thinking I'd do for him.

Artemid, those new DW look boss! The chain-fist guy looks ready to tear some bad boys ( Fallen ) up one side and down the other.

As far as the battle damage, I think if you stick to sponged damage it might look better with the texture already from the dry-brushing. Plus, if you vary your sponge type, you might stil get a couple of larger damage spots to paint 3D style to look like chunks taken out of the armor, etc. To make it show up on the white, you could probably get away either metallic or brown, but grey might fade in too much and black would probably be too stark.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with and that Praetor sounds awesome!

Thanks a ton Bryan! That means a good deal coming from someone of your caliber sweat.gif Good call on the sponging. I could go with Scorched Brown, or possibly Charadon Granite given how a tiny bit of overspill from basing the Sgt's bunny ears looks.

Took a break from blocking in basecoats and did up the Sgt's power sword in a new style, following valhouth's excellent guide:

Pretty good for a first go I think! I actually like the back side better because more of the basecoat is showing through, so it's a little higher contrast. I'd like to go back and redo all the rest of my non-Heavenfall blades this way I think.

Thanks!

This is where they are now. They're basically done, although I should probably get some weapon highlights on, and I'd really like some thoughts about weathering options or if I should at all (I know that sponge has been suggested).

Looking great Artemid, I don't think your style needs weathering, it already has plenty of visual depth.

Nice work thumbsup.gif

Yay compliments from Stobz! woot.gif

That is a pretty good point about depth. I can always go back and add stuff later too, so I'll try to knock the bases out soon since I need to build them.

Very nice work - I am lovin the almost stone effect armour rather than the usual bone. Very effective ;)

Thanks Elmo! happy.png Very encouraging to hear it from you guys!

Starting on bases. Adding a bit more rubble-flair than normal for me:

Eventually I might even graduate to cork!

Excellent, I've been itching to see how others tackle the same project. Slicing the forearms off the shields is chore, isn't it?

Yeahhh I just attacked the arms with my super sharp snippers and cleaned it out some with my xacto. I have yet to decide how rigorous I will be about joining forearm and shield. I get really lazy about actually using GS, so I may file down the outside of the forearm instead. We shall see how posing goes :D

Mocking up Chapter Master Machiu Troyan of the Angels Ardent for Grot's challenge.

Have the Sverin Loth kit on the way, hopefully will be grabbing a helmet and maybe a torso from it. Shoulder pads are not set but I think are close. Did a whole bunch of work to the hammer to make it look more correct to me.. and then I realized I should have just used a GK hammer and arms set. Oh well.

Thoughts on the forearm pad to hide the mangled Angelus Bolter?
