Blindhamster
Progress on Sternguard/Seekers continues. You can see I've used some liquid GS and then super fine grain sandpaper on some of the cloaks, will require more sanding till they're smooth on the two Mk2 guys. Newest member, I need to add some detail to the belt buckle, and tidy up around the knee on the right leg, reasonably happy with the tabard though, suggestions for belt buckle? Shot with Tycho (as they'll be fielded with him at all times) I actually added buckles to the cloak on Tycho today, fairly happy with them as well. Question, should I add little different shaped shields to the other vets along the same lines as the FW cloaks will have? Should I file down the eagle on the mk6 marine? or not? I've filed down the eagle from the other cloakshield. next up will be the mk4 marine, whom is the sergeant, still unsure on weapon, I think he may just get a combi weapon and possibly a sheathed sword... Edit One more question, should i add purity seals? The_Chaplain
Question, should I add little different shaped shields to the other vets along the same lines as the FW cloaks will have? Yes, absolutely- maybe it could serve as a personal heraldry for the marine or something considering they are serving as an escort for Tycho (so clearly they aren't your average joe marine)Â Â Â Should I file down the eagle on the mk6 marine? or not? I've filed down the eagle from the other cloakshield. I'm gonna go with no on this one- for the reason above. Â Mk 6 is the most bird like/avian in terms of aesthetic- I think it fits. Â Â One more question, should i add purity seals? Yep, I think some custom made oaths of moment (as Heathens put it) would add even another level to the models; as difficult as that is to believe. Â Â God they are just. so. awesome. to look at. Hyaenidae
Purity seals?  I think you mean Oaths of Moment. ;)  But yes, you should, sir. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262209-blood-angels-blog/page/7/#findComment-3602634 Share on other sites

Blindhamster
Hi again folks, little more progress The mk6 guy had a couple of details touched up, I haven't added purity seals/oaths of moment to any yet, I can't decide where would be good spots... if anyone has the inclination, please feel free to edit an image with some spots pointed out to help me out! <EDIT> I'm also incredibly rude, thankyou very much for the kind words! It's genuinely helping me keep motivated :) I'm currently working out the best way to do the shields as well, torn between sculpting them (which appears to be what FW did) and using plasticard... <END EDIT> Anyways, yeah progress: Group shot... The newest member is the sergeant, although he has a few bits to finish up, namely he needs hair removed and resculpted, he also needs the detail on his right leg done to match the vanguard sergeant from the first page of this thread, I also need to add a power dagger somewhere... but he's not really got space, suggestions on where!? C&C is as always welcome! oooh and my 36" of greenstuff arrived as did extra miliput and my Fear to Tread poster Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262209-blood-angels-blog/page/7/#findComment-3605157 Share on other sites
Brother Heinrich
Awesome work as usual Blindhamster. Do you sculpt your bolter straps on the model or make them separate and then glue them on once they've cured? Rob_Loken
That squad look hard as nails. The Sarge looks particularly tough. Nice work. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262209-blood-angels-blog/page/7/#findComment-3605174 Share on other sites
MagicMan
Awesome looking squad, Hamster. Â Can't wait to see them all painted up, probably one of the best Sternguard squads i've ever seen tbh... Â Â Not sure where you could cram a close combat weapon in on the Sarge... Maybe strapped to the backpack, on the cloak side, ready to be drawn over the shoulder? I dunno, its quite a busy model already. Nomus Sardauk
You could add a sheathed dagger to his lower right leg, or a sword on his backpack. Blindhamster
No problem Heinrich, Heathens, I used a mix of green stuff and miliput, same as for the cloaks, I then rolled out a strip of it then flattened it on a small amount of vaseline. I left it for about a minute then cut the shape of the strap out and discarded the remainder. Â I peeled it off straight away, the miliput makes it less sticky and a little firmer when its cool so it could be put in place straight away, I then had to use some superglue the next day to ensure it would stay where id placed it. Â Pretty quick and simple :) Â Thanks for the likes and kins words all Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262209-blood-angels-blog/page/7/#findComment-3605768 Share on other sites

The_Chaplain
*adds milliput to the shopping list* Â Awesome, man. Danke. . Don't make the mistake I did; avoid the "silver" miliput-- there have been a couple of bad batches and it makes for an inconsistent product that doesn't live up to the miliput name. None of the other colors have had that issue though, according to their feedback online (something I didn't think to check before purchasing back when I bought it) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262209-blood-angels-blog/page/7/#findComment-3605855 Share on other sites

Marshal Rohr
Is the green stuff on the sergeant's right leg a design you had seen in art work or just something you liked and decided to do? Blindhamster
Marshal, its based on the sergeant Lorenzo model from space hulk, it's more obvious when finished (check the vanguard model) Â Koriel, i go something like 60:40 gs:milliput Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262209-blood-angels-blog/page/7/#findComment-3606047 Share on other sites
Koriel
You wrote about the benefits of using a mix of gs/milliput (firmer/ less sticky). Are there any drawbacks when you combine the two compounds? Mainly wondering how it affects the time it takes to cure and if it makes the putty more difficult to work with. Blindhamster
Hey Koriel, I find that the main differences is the mix takes a little longer to fully cure, and due to it not being as sticky can slip off, in which case it then needs to be stuck down with glue. Â In terms of working it, dont use water, the water reacts with the milliput element and makes it incredibly difficult to work with, use some vaseline on the sculpting tool instead. Dont let superglue come into contact with the mixture as that'll cause the oddly textured result you could see on a couple of the cloaks I did. Â i find it's much easier to make shapes and smooth clean edges though and it can be sanded afterward unlike pure gs. Â Jaspcat, i'll try and do a tutorial when i do my next vet, wont be for a little bit as i'm currently sorting out my character model for deathwatch campaign i'm playing in and I need to source some more backpacks before I continue. Â In other news, I played a 2k point game vs Imperial fists today, had a dawn of war crusade game, ended up with me having slay the warlord and two objectives at end of turn 6 vs his first blood and single objective, incredibly close and intense game, but a lot of fun :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262209-blood-angels-blog/page/7/#findComment-3606865 Share on other sites

Blindhamster
Maybe post some pics of any tabards/straps you guys do :) so, I finally had my graduation ceremony yesterday, glad its finally out of the way! :) Booked tickets for the heresy weekender if any of you plan to be there, would be cool to say hi! Anyway, small progress updates... I mentioned I'd made a Blood Angels Black Shield for the Deathwatch campaign I'm about to be in... here is the result: He has the boltgun along with targeter and ammo selector as signature wargear as I rolled very good BS on him (48) He has a blood vial in his right hand, which is a chapter trapping, the GM allowed him to have that and I thought it'd make for a fun modelling opportunity to have him holding it. Actual army progress has been minimal, I have a couple more devastators completed (they're hidden in one of the pics below). progress on Sternguard sergeants leg detailing, struggling to get at it a bit due to everything else getting in the way and the angle of his leg... I mentioned I've been doing actual painting again... you will recognise these from earlier in the thread, I've been working on the shading for the red and blacking everything out today and a couple days back (yes.. I'm slow, and very busy sadly) I think I'm going to replace the chap with the comms backpack, he's one of the few older marines I still have after the big rework I did when getting back to these last year, the paint is thick and textured and a definite issue... so possibly watch this space for a replacement squad member shortly. finally some blurry army shots... C&C is forever welcome! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262209-blood-angels-blog/page/7/#findComment-3611454 Share on other sites
