++Marines Malevolent/Knights Vermilion++UPDATE: Ironclad

Got the first details of the Storm Raven done. There's a close up in there of the black metal areas of the ship, with a little experimentation with a friends airbrush, I've gone for a 'carbon glitter' across it. Rather pleased with it so far.

That's a lot of yellow to paint by hand. What do you guys think?

The Storm Raven looks good, especially the yellow.  I wouldn't ever tackle that much yellow without an airbrush.  I did have to read your post twice though, I never thought I would see the word "glitter" in a topic about the Marines Malevolent.  The Emperor's Children or Ultramarines certainly, even the Black Templars but never the Marines Malevolent.  I assume it must be some kind of typo or autocorrect feature?

Agreed though never thought i would hear them words in the same sentence ever.

I agree with death spectre teeth on that land raider would look epic!

Glitter, sparkle...ahh, metallic dappling effect? ;) It was stupid o'clock in the morning and my brain had farted out my ears long before.

Unless it's a few chevron stripes for some Iron Warriors, I wouldn't tackle any yellow these days without my airbrush.

I don't have the luxury of an airbrush just yet, that's what the new year brings. Oddly though I found layering the yellow to be quite relaxing.

Took a break from the Raven, built another Talon, painted the cockpits of two of three fliers, fitted the melta turrent on M-Raider-1 and painted Chaplain Bharzoh.

The cockpit glow is an experiment. It looks pretty good with the canopies on so I'm happy with it, was going for a washed out HUD glow. The Chaplain was tonight's project, took about an hour from start to finish. I'm pretty happy with how he's come out.

Glory & Hate, brothers.

EDIT: Added pictures of M-Raider-1's progress.

Cheers, zxyogi!

Today was another experiment in pushing my boundaries. I've always wanted to do this but never felt confident enough in my ability to pull it off. I think I've done it some form of justice.

What do you guys think?

Tamiya Clear is worth its weight in gold.

Your latest marine looks great. I especially like the use of the scout pistol and knife. I need to get some if those pistols for my XX Legion marines. The teeth on the helmet look really well done. You are right about the Tamiya Clear Red, actually everything Tamiya makes is worth it's weight in gold.

Thanks brothers!

Now, I'm getting pretty sick of painting yellow, but my drive for the army isn't dwindling. I'm thinking of painting 2 or 3 squads as other obscure IF successors (as that's who I'm basing my MM's rules wise. I personally believe they are of Iron Warrior or even World Eater stock but, hey ho) to join them in ground pounding.

I'm thinking of a choice between the following:-

Iron Knights

1455183_10153527840400156_1842872929_n.jpg

Death Strike (read: NOT Rainbow Warriors)

1464604_10153527840420156_564388813_n.jpg

Excoriators

1453549_10153527840450156_643270414_n.jpg

What do you lads think? Mix it up a bit or take a break and crack on with the yellow?

Cheers, BT

Okay, I'm gonna break it down like this.

1 Tactical Squad + Drop Pod- Death Strike

1 Devastator Squad + Rhino - Death Strike

1 Terminator Squad - Excoriators

That way I've got a nice little variation in my massive Apoc list for different colour break up. I'm looking forward to the challenge on doing blue and white. I haven't painted blue marines since I was 8 years old.

I also vote for Death Strike. That's a lovely colour scheme.

Great work on your MM. The Raider's multi-melta turret is an excellent idea. I'll steal that if I ever have the money for it!

Also those shark teeth are very, very well done. Good use of the scout pistol (I love those pistols!).

With the Tamiya Clear Red did you add some Nuln Oil to darken it? I usually do. How about streaking it toward the back of the knife a little, or using a toothbrush to fleck/spray a bit up the knife/hand/arm?

Well here we are, the first Death Strike Marine to grace my Crusade.

Shells whistled through the air, out of place with the horrifying roar of their detonation. Hundreds of tonnes of earth was flung skyward, mingled with shrapnel and body parts, creating a rain of macabre contents. It showered down onto the men of the Remulan 66th, 5th Platoon, Vexille Company. The bitter veterans of this campaign were beginning to snap, men who'd faced down the Tyranid monstrosity and who looked unflinching into the green beasts of Ghazor's beady eyes. Being shelled by their own was too much, the constant barrage, the creeping death. Platoon by platoon were being wiped out of existence and it was only a matter of time before the 5th were gone too. Lieutenant Vaughn clenched his eyes shut, his Razah-pattern MK 77 Lasrifle clenched between his gloved hands, its wooden stock a rough contrast to some of the other forces plasteel materials. His face was wrapped with a scratchy grey scarf, damp, like the rest of his grey uniform, his helmet ill-fitting. A puddle was soaking his boots in the bottom of the dug out he shared with three other Troopers, they were waiting for what was coming next. Vaughn passed his flinty gaze over his comrades, one was sat down, knees to his chest, his eyes closed. One was crouched, fervently praying to an Aquila on a chain about his neck. The third, like Vaughn was studying them, their eyes crossed paths, an awkward nod ensued. Then it came all too quickly, the silence. All that could be heard was the wind kicked up by the earth shattering destruction, no screams. Anyone who was hit, had been vaporized by the HE shells. The whistle blow screeched out across the silence, harrowing and causing the men to shiver. Vaughn's throat was dry, despite the constant damp that permeated everything, he screwed his eyes shut and mouthed a prayer to the God-Emperor. The whistle came again, followed by the sound of men dragging themselves from the mud. He shot out a heavy breath then stood up, cresting the ridge of their dug out.
"Right, ye bastards! Get your jacksies moving 'afore I clobber ye!"
His Troopers clambered upwards, Vaughn helped them on by grabbing their belt straps and hauling. The man who had been curled up on the watery floor of the muddy crater refused to move, his eyes tight shut.
"Aulgren! Get your arse moving, boy!"
The Trooper buried his face into his grey clad arms. Vaughn shot his gaze around, seeing each section of 5th marching forward into the haze of the no mans land between them and the enemy trenches. It was studded with tank traps, coated with razor wire and trip mines, shattered and blackened stumps were all that remained of the sparse forest that had separated the two armies months before. He caught sight of a black cap, the ice chip blue eyes staring beneath it, right into him. He knew what he had to do, they'd been given their orders.
"Dross on you, Aulgren! Dross on you, boy."
He rammed the stock of his rifle to his shoulder, a grimace scolding his features. His gloved finger snapped to the trigger and squeezed. There was a whip-crack discharge and Trooper Aulgren died with his head in his arms. Vaughn turned and sprinted after the advance, his lungs heaving. He could hear the rumble of battle tanks off to their right, the venerable Leman Russ grinding their way forwards. Then, three hundred paces from the relative safety of their own lines, the heavy stubber fire began. Searing lines of hot orange stitched out from the earthworks in front of the enemy position, sawing men in half, shearing limbs from bodies. Screams and the hot scent of blood filled the air and Lieutenant Vaughn threw himself flat. He snarled in frustration as the chattering bark of a heavy bolter was added to the hailstorm of fire. He flung his head up, seeing the men of his section riddled with bullet holes, being flung like marionettes with cut strings. He could hear the furious whistle blowing of his senior officers and a deep seated panic began to grip his bowels, turning them sour. This was the third advance in as many days and it had been halted before it had really begun. The Leman Russ breached the right hand flank of the enemy trench line, a powerful demolisher cannon opening the way. A ragged cheer erupted from the men of the 5th and efforts were redoubled in pushing forward. The black capped Commissar opened his mouth to scream encouragement and a sniper round took him through it, spraying his head across the muddy field. Vaughn cursed and pulled himself upright, then it happened. It felt like he'd been kicked by a horse, a sudden and overwhelming pain punched into his gut and he collapsed backwards. The world phased out of sequence around him, his ears ringing. He lifted his fingers after probing his stomach and they came away glistening with bright red blood. "Ah, dross." He swallowed, lifting his eyes. A Thunderbolt screeched down in a spiral, its contrail mesmerizing. The pilot seemed to catapult back up into the flakk filled sky, its payload exploding the Leman Russ advance in a blossom of metal and detonated munitions.
Something else filled the sky, bright flares of sun burst, followed by stabbing lances of blinding light. A roaring rush filled his ears, his sluggish vision focusing on the monumental explosions on the horizon. The cacophony of war took on a different timbre, the sound of heavy weapons fire picking up tempo. The ground shuddered next to him and his vision began to grey, warping at the edges of his eyes. Vaughn slipped back into unconsciousness. He awoke one last time, a mechanical hissing filling his throbbing head, his lead heavy eyes flickered open and striding the world before him was a giant of legend. A titan of myth. An angel of death. Mud splattered royal blue armour and vibrant yellow insignia burned into his mind. Distorted, inhuman voices boomed like the voice of gods. His lips curled into a weak smile. They'd won. Space Marines had come to punish the wicked, those who'd turned against the light of the Emperor on Terra. The last thing Lieutenant Vaughn felt was a fleeting sense of justice.

What do you guys think of the Tactical Sergeant Mithras, 2nd Company, Death Strike Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes?
