Ok, I thought I knew what you were up to, but the second coat of yellow surprised me. So I guess I'll have to watch this play out. :)

Honda, you probably do know what I'm up to. I just haven't actually gotten far enough in the process for you to realize it.

Anyways, sorry for the delay for the next step. Real life is crazy sometimes. Without further ado!

Step 3:

If I saw one of those lava marines  :) walking by I'd just lose it. He's pretty freaky looking in a very awesome way.

I don't think the sergeant is coming out as well I had  hoped... Kinda didn't do well on the execution.

the aggrellan earth not cracking as much as I wanted isn't helping either.

On the final day of the ETL, I bring to you the Knights of the Cursed Flame.

On the planet of Fellias IV, The Black Templars of the Tempestas Crusade decended to quell a newly awakened Necron tomb. They called themselves the Ahn'Oros Dynasty. Castellan Malross lead his troops by drop pod directly into the heart of the Necron Invasion, giving the local PDF a "distraction" from the hoards of Necron Immortals and Warriors advancing in their direction. For every Necron they killed, 5 more took its place, then the one they killed would get back up. More and more drop pods arrived carrying needed reinforcements to stave off the advancing tide.

But this was just a ploy for time, as the heavy duty ships dropped the mother payload. The Tank Division. Vindicators, Rhinos, and Land Raiders joined the fight, each with a techmarine to repair damage from the Necron anti-vehicle specialist weapons. Slowly but surely, the Necron forces were being driven back.

Then it came.

A monster wreathed in flames the likes of which of the Templars had never seen before. A C'tan shard, with the powers of fire at its beck and call. now stood against the marines and victory. A squad of Sword Brethren looked at the creature and laughed. "Fight fire with fire!" the sergeant yelled at the rest of his squad. The squad aimed their bolters and melta weaponry at the monster, gaining its attention. At such a long range, the melta fire had little effect on the C'tan. The special ammunition of the bolters were what was needed to get the job done. They started with the kraken bolts at first, but as the monster drew near, the vengeance rounds became the ammo of choice.

The flames of the monster grew higher, however, and the internal cooling systems of the Templar's power armor were being pushed to their limit. The two melta gunners courageously jumped onto the creature and shoved their melta weaponry straight into his back. The powers of the C'tan amplified the potency of the melta weaponry, making them extremely damaging, but also dangerous to the marines who held them. The guns internal systems exploded inside the C'tan, severely weakening it. As a last ditch effort, the sergeant threw a Hold Orb of Antioch into the creature's mouth. The final explosion sent the monster writhing on the ground.

It wasn't through with the marines yet, however. It dispersed its own body into pure fire, and surrounded the Sword Brethren. He bound himself to their armor, weapons, and flesh, giving up his own sentience to curse the marines for what they had done to him. The battle for the planet was won, but for the Sword Brothers, a new one had just begun.

When the residing chaplain found them, he saw the curse and deemed them unfit for service to the Emporor. He excised the sword brethren from the chapter, through way of death. No cursed mutant shall be permitted to live. As the other surviving Templars prepared to slay the cursed brothers, the spirit of the C'tan shard turned them wholly into flames and they disappeared.

Every now and again, throughout the various battles fought for the Tempestas Crusade, in times of dire need, this squad of Sword Brethren, now called the "Knights of the Cursed Flame" by other Templars, will appear as if out of nowhere to slay the enemies of the Emperor and bring victory in his name. The Templars also note that despite the curse, all Aquillas on the armor and weapons of the marines remain untainted, a sure sign of the uncorruptable nature of the Emperor's symbol.

The Knights of the Cursed Flame:

And with that, my ETL vow is complete.

The sword is from the metal TDA Captain blister I got when I first started the game. That particular model's sword hand is detached, and when I decided all my sword brothers were going to have power weapons, I found the easiest way to put a power sword on this guy, and it was using that captain's power sword.

You'll also notice the lightning effect is different than on the rest of my power swords. This is because I want my sword brothers to also double as Honor Guard if needed, and since this sword is noticeably larger than a normal power sword, I decided that it will be a relic blade when he is ran as such. I made the lightning different to show that this isn't just a normal power sword, and is a weapon from another time.

As for Sword Brother Sauron's mace, I cut his sword off where the motor meets the chainsword. The mace is made out of three different components. The bashy part's center is an oversized melta bomb. The blades are simply combat blades that I cut the handles off of. I painted the blades, then glued them into the recesses on the sides of the meltabomb. The handle is made from an antenna from a storm talon (the ones that stick up from the top back). I cut off the skinny part to make it as thick as possible. I then drilled and pinned the bashy part to the handle, and then pinned the handle to the motor of the old chaindsword.

I don't actually do a lot of converting, but I am going to be trying something soon to sorta "test" what I can do. This will be on another sword brother model also. You guys will see it when I'm finished.

You saw it incomplete if you looked at the picture of my recent-ish 3000 point game vs my brother's nidz where I almost tabled him on turn 3, but it is now done! The one and (sadly) only Rhino I currently own.

That's right, I own more drop pods than I own rhinos! Then again, I own more drop pods than I have vehicles on a rhino chassis... And more drop pods than I have other dedicated transports... I guess I should buy more drop pods.

Now, I know some of the other brethren on this forum don't like the "clean" look on 40k vehicles, and I'm just going to say that I do. So... That's that.

Your Rhino's paintjob, because of your manner of highlighting, has a comic book quality to it, and I mean it in the positive sense. You also have a way of bringing black templar blacks to life by breaking the surfaces with reds and whites applied to various details most of us just leave... well, black (like all those reds on the various small, rectangular panels). And the chequered shield with the Maltese cross on the side hatch - nice! I love it! And I have to find some time to paint one of my own rhinos. Or a drop pod maybe.

Thank you brothers!

The highlights stand out a lot more due to the white background. If I take a picture with normal flash and no white background, they seem much more subdued. The way I highlighted it is also the way I've been highlighting everything for a while now. It's a thick highlight of Eshin grey, followed by a thin highlight of dawnstone, but instead of doing it only on the actual corner, I do it on the surfaces up to the corner on both sides. On centerpiece models (such as the Stormraven), I add a third highlight of Administratum Grey to only the corners to accent where they are.

As for the colors, I am of the opinion that adding more color to everything is a good way to make good looking Templars. Why show colors with just a grey highlight when I can make you notice them by coloring them white or red? I actually have a prescribed way of painting the details either white or red, and only in certain situations do I deviate from that. If you look at all my vehicles, you'll notice that it is quite consistent.

I currently only have 3 drop pods, but only one Rhino, one Land Raider Crusader, and one Stormraven. I guess the next few things I should actually be buying are more razorback kits and another LRC/R kit. Maybe the reclusiam command squad would be a nice addition...
