A Tactical Squad I finished up today. I used Corvus Black instead of Abaddon Black for the shoulder trim which I liked and gave the Bolters a single coat of Guilliman Flesh which I really liked the end look of.

TITH Having become completely disillusioned with the modern game I decided to completely start over from scratch and return to what I consider the best edition of 40k,

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.

First project is going to this little set I just purchased in amazing condition.

Wow. This is from even before my time of starting. Love all the lore and the rules on the back of the box …

I finished up another Assault Squad. I really like the washed out chemical burn appearance of them. The Flamer is purple bevause that's the paint that was on my brush at the time. Details are purposely at a minimum as I wanted them to look like almost all colour was burned out by chemicals and pollution.

Today in the hobby I...

Have built a unit of Deathwing Terminators, a unit of Ravenwing Outriders and I'm practising high quality speed painting by seeing if I can get Kill Team Justinian painted to a tabletop standard I'm happy with before bed time.

Been a while since I posted anything of mine on here, but I'm pretty proud of these ones.

TITHI finished a squad of Sternguard that have been sitting on my desk for over a month - I caught covid for the first time while painting these and still haven't entirely recovered, my hands have been shakier ever since and I have a stubborn cough that won't go away. Despite that I'm really happy with how these guys turned out. Got a little bit of freehand on the parchment with words like purge, banish, etc., and did a little bit of kitbashing to really make them mine.

Looking great! Nice colours and always love when there is a Beakie-dude in the gang!:biggrin:

Thanks! Yeah gotta have Beakie representation. I think I found more of them and mark VII in my bits box a while back, so I'm gonna spread them around in future squads for sure!

Been getting in some good hobby time over the last week.  More chipping away at my fellbllade conversion (resin scrubbed of mold release + straightened, more of the old baneblade hull cut away and prepped for conversion, lots of sanding) and a couple more test models painted for my infantry.  I've been working off Darcy Bono's World Eaters tutorial, as I prefer a warmer white for my marines and, of various brush techniques I've tried, drybrushing seems to sit best with me.  Switching to Duncan's paints for my off-whites + pro acryl Bold Titanium White for my full-white has improved the results a lot (GW whites are, of course, trash), but still not to the point where I want to dive in on the rest of my army.  I ordered some knock-off Artis Opus-style goat hair dome-shaped drybrushes and a 3d printed texture palette, that'll be my next step in trying to get that perfect white - or at least the white that I'm looking for.

If I wasn't doing not-Luna-Wolves for my 40k army I'd probably be doing a branch of Imperial Fists - or Space Wolves or Ultramarines, since I already have SW and UM armies.  I still might.  If I can't paint a white I'm happy with, I'll torture myself with yellow instead.  But for Heresy specifically, there were some variant color schemes for IF that I really liked, like the dark grey and yellow on page 66 of the third red book.  Their methodical, siege-style tactics appeal to me more than mobility or stealth.  That, and all the "I CAST FIST!" jokes you can shake a power fist at.

Been a bit of a while since I did any 40K hobbying, but Night Shift's recent video inspired me to get to work on my Land Raider Phobos. I wasn't feeling how the paint was going, so I took the opportunity to try something a bit brave and give the armour panels some rolled-steel texture with black primer and an old brush, with some light sanding with a melamine sponge to knock it back a taste. I then airbrushed a very dark grey basecoat over the top, which will not only form the base layer of paint but also unify the surface again and let me appraise the overall effect. No pics yet, I'm waiting for the paint to dry, but I have a feeling I'm going to be using this technique a lot going forward. It really lends the thing a more authentic, heavy look, and IMO makes the vehicle look less like a toy and more like a miniature armoured vehicle. It also covers assembly imperfections, and will hopefully make painting a much more enjoyable process; don't have to worry so much about perfect finishes when you want a rough, pock-marked metal look.

Edit: Now with pics! Came out pretty well. Not that you'd know with my crappy photo skills...

@calgar101 Great choice. The Imperial Fists have some amazing lore, art and characters. I highly recommend their BL novels if you haven't indulged already.

@Moonstalker They are definitely worth having a go with at some point in the future. A wonderful faction. They have some great rules content for HH. Yellow isn't that bad either.

@Evil Eye That Land Raider is gorgeous.

Another one of those "oh God I spent more money on Warhammer" days.  Finally pulled the trigger on buying an airbrush and compressor.  Once I get those set up and get some practice with them, I'll sign up for the Call to Arms event and knock out a few squads.  That's the plan, anyway.  The mixup with the 3rd party Predator tracks has been resolved, Elrik's Hobbies did send out the correct tracks for me, though it took me a few tries to get in touch with them.

Got a small, cheap desk off Amazon to use for hobby stuff.  It's not a ton of space, but it's better than working right in front of my computer, and means I can leave my hobby stuff out instead of going through packing and unpacking it any time I want to do anything.  I've cut enough bits off this Hellhammer that I can now start turning it into a Fellblade.  Using 1mm plasticard sheet I built up the area where the sponson would normally be, so there's a little support for the plasticard that will go over that area and it won't be "squishy."  Then using 3mmx3mm plasticard strips I built up the perimeter of the side hull, slightly elongating it and adding the Astartes-style crenelations that cover the road wheels.  I made a paper template of the new side hull shape and then cut that out of 2mm plasticard.  I'm still working out where the rhino side door and forward detail inset will go in the new side hull piece, and I'll probably have to cut them out with the dremel.

Finished up another Tactical Squad. Quite pleased with the tabard, studs on left pauldron of the Sergeant as well as the Purity Seals across the squas and the flame trail on the Missile Launcher.
