+++E Tenebrae Lux II - Black Templars Strategium+++

Recommended Posts

This year life prevented my participation but fear not brothers for next year ill add my effort to the battle. Excellent job to everyone who participated. I saw some beautiful models through out the thread. The event even motivated me to complete my Stormraven!

Was this from going through the thread, or reading the initial post? Because the Initial post doesn't reflect a lot of the newer changes.  My first doesn't even show as complete, let alone my 2nd!

Both. Dark Scipio, Eberious and ValkyrieUndead didn't finish theirs as far as I can tell, they were the biggest unfinished ones. Understandable that something can come up and such, but still unfortunate for the forum's overall performance.

A shame.

I was working on my vow when I realized I could bring it to the bare minimum (painted, but nowhere near completed) but realized it wouldn't be doing the Templars or this competition justice. I vowed to complete them, not slap a basecoat on them, pick out a few details, and say they are done.

I'll have to think of a suitable penance for this failure, but at the very least, I will complete my vow before I let them be used in battle or buy anything new.

Oh, and since the older completions got eaten up by the database issues, here's my compilation of completions:

Well deserved congratulations to all who participated in this year's ETL. Courage, devotion and participation in battle is always valued by the Emperor and the High Marshall. I believe that we were in an disadvantageous position from the very beginning. Our community is small and with no sign of a new Codex we could not hope for many fresh members and participants (unlike for instance the venerable, yet a bit secretive, Dark Angels) . Moreover, many of our Crusades were exhausted (or rather in full and painted strength) after our fierce and memorable participation in last year's ETL. Still, we upheld our honour. As last year's victors much was expected of us and I dare say that we did not fail to live to those expectations. And to those who failed to fulfil their: do not despair! Thank you all for your participation and effort. Remember that not every battle can be won and defeat after a heroic effort does not bring shame.

Right now we can only wait for the final results and enjoy the past ETL's additions to our collections.

Just posted this in the Dark Angels' ETL thread for their amusement.  Figure I'll post it here for you guys as well:

The Black Templar Reclusiarch stood in the Thunderhawk's troop bay alone as it started its landing rites.  He stood in silence.  He knew of his failures and now he must stand and face the ones responsible for his undoing.

The Dark Angels.

This was not Darklight's first involvement with the Sons of the Lion.  He knew their ways.  Well, knew enough that they were a secretive lot.  'Probably some silly reason for that', he often said to himself, but he would always then think 'No.  They are Astartes.  Their reasons are well enough their own'.

The Thunderhawk door opened as it neared the ground.   A lone warrior stood before him, wearing green ceramite with a bone-white robe covering his torso and legs.  "
Good morning, cousin!" he voxed.  Darklight could not see the warriors face behind that helmet, but he could tell from this overly cheery demeanor that this particular Angel most likely knew what the packaged dataslate in his hand contained.

"That's 'Reclusiarch',"  Darklight corrected, though he figured this would simply spur the Angel's highly amused attitude.

"My apologies." The Dark Angel bowed his head.  His tone said it all.  He wasn't sorry. The smug bas--

*THUD* The Thunderhawk hit the ground.

"I take it, by your apparent amusement, that you know what it is that you carry?" Darklight stepped down the boarding ramp towards the Green-clad warrior.

"Of course, Reclusiarch." The marine reached out and offered the package to the knight.  "Captain Semper briefed me in full about your little gamble.  The White-protocols, as you...uh... 'requested'."

The Knight ignored this quip as he was handed the package. "I'm genuinely surprised. I'd have imagined your chapter would not hand over this sort of thing. What happened to the top-secret nature of how you do business?

"Even we make exceptions, like watching a Black Templar squirm, for example.  The Master of Recruits sees no reason to keep this under wraps"

Darklight laughed. Not that he found the situation humourous, but because he knew this would simply add to his humiliation.  "
Of course he doesn't."

"
He apologizes that he couldn't deliver this himself.  He's a busy man, wrapping up the final details of the Crusade and such.

"
Yes, I'm sure.  Is that all, Sergeant? I have somewhere to be."

"
Yes, Reclusiarch."

Darklight began to walk back up the ramp.

"Oh, I almost forgot"  Darklight stopped, but didn't bother to turn more than his head.  "The Captain has one last message for you."

"What?"

"We hope you'll have made good use of that by weeks end. He think's you'll look good in Bone-white"

Darklight said nothing. He only slammed his fist into the side of the Thunderhawk's troop bay as it began to take flight once more.

I've got a heck of a penance vow to complete... :S

Edit:  Does anyone else find the quote-mechanic to be as aggravating to manage as I do on this board nowadays? lol

Brothers, well done. Dorn is certainly proud and when the dust settles we can stand tall and proud of our efforts, for to do anything less would deny what was accomplished.

We have no excuses, we need none. We accomplished what was in our power to control. By some of the side comments in the other forums, we must of put up a pretty fierce fight, as there were comments about us posting nearly 15,000 points earlier in the week and we still had many vows come in. We had a lot of ground to make up and I think the one thing that may have denied us was a nearly 7,000 point vow that went in last night for the DAs. It was pretty impressive accomplishment.

So there is no shame here. We have upheld our honor. We are still the Emperor's chosen instrument of his wrath. Dorn's belief in us has been validated.

It is time to begin the next crusade.

Following tvih's lead, I thought I'd post everything I painted for the ETL2. So that was 5 Landraiders, 2 Rhinos, 1 Razorback, 1 Predator, 1 Dreadnought, 1 Marshal, 4 Chaplains and 2 cenobytes. My first cut at close ups <cue loud suction sound> so I'll have to try that again later.

It was an honor being among you through this challenge.

In the meantime...<note: one of the LRs is a stand-in for the guy I'm having to re-paint>

Brothers,

Well done, 2nd place is a great achievement, there is no shame in losing to such great numbers of DA. We have done our Chapter proud.

I am honoured to have stood besides you during this great event.

Congratulations to tvih, our new Forum Champion. A title well deserved Brother! Bear it proudly.

And now to collect some more Templars, and keep them unpainted for roughly a year. tongue.png

Now, on a slightly related note: will someone guide or help me figure out how to put that fancy banner in my sig? wacko.png

Sadly I was on course to complete early until a protracted house move prevented me painting until this week cry.gif (also only just got the internet back pinch.gif) However I shall put aside the undone models for next years vow and hope that we are still going stong devil.gif

Yeah, undone models.... especially once I get more Vanguard and Sternguard to distribute between BT and CF. I'd still have quite a few models to paint for next year, including:

~15 vanguard

~20 sternguard

6+ honour guard

2 attack bikes

Up to 9 normal bikes

Possibly 20+ tactical/devastator marines

Ironclad dreadnought

Stormtalon

Predator

1 Land Raider Crusader

2 Razorback

1 Whirlwind

3 drop pods

1 Azrael counts-as marshal

1-2 Calgars counts-as marshal

1 Vulkan counts-as marshal

10 Death Company counts-as vanguard

1 Death Company dreadnought counts-as ironclad

... plus other odds and ends, so easily 3500+ points. Of course the real question is for how long I can hold off from painting at least some of them. Not that I wouldn't have plenty of heretical orks and blasphemous chaos marines - and even some IG, possible SoB if I ever get around to buying them - to paint in the meanwhile, but as I'll still mainly play BT+CF and I'd rather play with painted models... well, I guess we'll see. 9 months is a long time.

Congratulations Tvih! Dorn smiles upon you this day.

Indeed, he smiles upon all of us this day. We did not give up! We fought until the very end! The Dark Angels may have beaten us this time but we've set an example by keeping everyone else at bay!

Fear not, we will always be strong. Our time has not yet come to be swept under the rug, our Zeal still burns brightly.

No Pity. No Remorse. No Fear.

Although I was able to complete my vow it shames me that I was unable to pledge more to our cause.  Real life has blessed my with a tiny, new, 4 month old battle-sister and the Apothecary has told my wife that another is on the way ( I'm hoping for a wee neophyte this time to round out the family!).  I will again vow next year, and it may not be a lot, but it will be done!  The Emperor protects, my brothers!

Congrats to you Brother Sellsword. And every Brother is allowed to miss a Crusade if it means an extra addition to the Chapter! thumbsup.gif

I'm certain I will participate in the ETLIII, but the question is for what faction? If the current C:SM incarnation doesn't work for me it's very likely I'll get some additions to my Guard army, especially if they get a new codex as well.

Offcourse, if the rumoured BT supplement hits before the ETL starts things could change again..... Only time will tell.

My shame is immense. I didnt had the courage to open the thread until now. I really tought I could do it after the whole July and start of August was eaten by a project in my work. I worked overnights the last days and really thought I could do it in the last night and then there as this terrible, terrible foundation spray accident. A real shock.
