The tribune looks amazing.

I like the weapon and how you've done it. The blade is far beyond my "paint metal, wash, then drybrush" routine for weapons.

Drybrush? Wow you put more effort into metals than I do, I stop at washes

Although this mini is painted to perfection (as usual) I still cant bring myself to like the head.

I can only agree with the others: that blade looks amazing. It could be just the lighting but I'd really be interested in getting some insight into how you painted it. :)

The rest of the model looks fantastic, too. That red armour... unf.

Glad you guys like! :D

The weapon is really nothing special, I started with leadbelcher, then did a drakenhof nightshade wash. I then picked out the highlights with Ironbreaker and then did the tips with runefang. After that I did some slight Guilleman blue glazes to make it look slightly blueish in places. That was it! :D

  • 2 weeks later...

Ropey pic of the Fire Raptor so far.

This thing is too big for me to take decent pics of tonight with my camera. So I have used my phone. Hoping to set something up from tomorrow onwards so I can take better pics.

:D

I actually think it looks good for flesh tearers too. May do a small squad of them at some point!

Work continues.

It's difficult to take pics as I have said before. Quite big this model... :D

You should get yours painted Aquila!

And I am glad it's a warm fuzzy feeling Slave, and not a "kill all the things" feeling! :D

Okay, so another work in progress pic.

It's odd painting this. It's the biggest model I have painted, and it feels more like painting really detailed terrain than a mini!

And the paint is still wet, so much so I decided to put a piece of paper under it so it didn't stain my light box!

Finished for the day. I have the cockpit and the guns to do tomorrow, and then just general tidying up of the whole thing then it should be done.

I was hoping to finish this today, but  underestimated how long it would take!

Argh, I remember me painting Land Raider for the first time. It took me good few days to finish, when I was counting on 1,5 days tops. But when they're painted, they look awesome and form the core of the collection.

Love your work. Want to see this thing painted.

Ta chaps!

I know what you mean about time consumption, though maybe not 10 months! :D

Hopefully this will be done tomorrow!

It was on and off quite a bit but it still felt like a mountain.

what a beast!

may we hope for more than one parchment, probably even books or scribbles?

what is the reasoning for that strong glow on the edges of the red? It seams like the highlights here outshine the reflections on metallic materials, which is kinda odd, but super spooky.

The bright highlights are basically there so the model fits in with the rest of my army. Rest of the vehicles (well... not all) have this sort of highlight. They aren't quite as bright as the pics make them out to be, I have no idea why but the white background really makes them "glow".

I'm gonan take some pics on my gaming table of it when it's done, and hopefully it will come across a little better!

Regarding parchment and such, I am hoping to add some Word Bearers logos and scripts. I'm not sure about more parchment. This thing travels waaayyyy faster than a tank, and I can't imagine the parchments lasting very long :S

I am up for ideas though! :D

Here is the latest WIP pic! I have to finish the pilot and then put the cock pit glass on, and then I can put all the transfers and shiz on! :D

you could have long parchments and stick them on these spikes. WBs really need that for protection in battle - like the japanese kamikazes' senninbari. and how is that one parchment fixed anyway? :happy.:

would love to see word bearer version of  'nose art' (WW2 airplanes)

I am half tempted to take that parchment off as it is. It just seems like it would last about tend seconds then fall off!

I appreciate that the rule of cool trumps all though! :D

And the idea of Word Bearer nose art is actually cool as :cuss. Wayyyy too time consuming though. I hate to say it but this is just a gaming piece, I don't have the time to spend too long on it :(

And cheers Deathspectre! And yeah, more WORD is coming!

Okay, so the main body of painting is done.

Things left to do:

Legion icons - Can't decide if they should be 30k ones or 40k ones. I like the idea of faded 30k icons. This would be a very old machine, and it also means it wont look out of place in my 30k force. I am trying to strike a balance!

Battle damage - Just the usual sort of chips and such. Nothing crazy.

Tidy ups - I don't like how the bolter weapon things have turned out. They are okay, but I will likely return to them in the future.

Base - Forge World weirdly provide the smallest flyer base for this thing, and it's pretty huge. I have tried to balance it but I am not happy. So if I don't have one spare I need to order one.

Think that's it. Still, it's table top ready now! Means I may get to use it in a game tonight! :D
