Tzen
Well, the final biker is nearly completed. I can continue with my Gal'Vorbak and the Space Hulk box soon! http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/biker5nearly.jpg This guy hasn't been stuck to the bike yet as I need to finish the backpack. This should however be completed by today!
Tzen
Not the best thing I have ever painted but not the worst! http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/finalbike.jpg Not sure what to carry on with now, just pretty happy the squad is done! tyrannosaurus
Awesome, you got a group shot of the bikes? In terms of what to paint next I vote Gal Vorbak, the first one is so good would be awesome to see a squad painted up.
Tzen
I am hoping to set up my light box sometime this week to get a few decent pictures, I ordered some proper bulbs last week so hoping they will work out nicely! I probably will do the Gal Vorbak, but I may throw in the odd ultramarine to mix it up a bit!
sockwithaticket
Typically high-quality stuff from you, Tzen. As for what's next : GAL VORBAK!!! I have to see what you'll do with the others. The flesh on the existing one is horrible, but in a good way.
Tzen
Thanks Sockwithaticket! Well, work has started on my second Gal Vorbak! http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/galvorbak2.1.jpg Apologies that the picture is quite dark, I don't have a decent lighting set up at the moment and well... I live in the north!
GrandMagnus
Nice red! Man there are so many details on those Gal Vorbak.
Tzen
Ta man! Two pictures of my WIP Gal Vorbak from slightly different angles. http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/galvorbak2.2.jpg http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/galvorbak2.3.jpg Pretty intimidating models these because the detail is so high I find myself trying to understand the model. Which is even more difficult because it's warped to hell and back, and probably not meant to be "understood". Generally speaking I am happy with it so far! tyrannosaurus
Looking brilliant. Take it you're on half term [or 'reading' week] so expecting some regular updates!
Tzen
I am indeed! Well, half-term, trainee teacher now so I have loads of work to be doing so I don't have as much time as I would like for painting!
tyrannosaurus
Nice, I'm a teacher too so welcome to the profession! [and commiserations :P ]
Tzen
You're not the first person to say that exact thing! :D I've actually finished the model, just not got the set up to take pictures till tomorrow :(
Tzen
Well, technically this is "finished". I may re do the fire and the text on the book needs a little more work but I am running out of time and need to crack on with some more "real work". Apologies for the dark photos, I will set up the light box soon and take pics of the bikers and the gal Vorbak ASAP. http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/galvorbak2.4.jpg http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/galvorbak2.5.jpg http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/galvorbak2.6.jpg http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/galvorbak2.71.jpg I am not really that happy with how this turned out, it's a little rough round the edges but I simply don't have the time to dedicate to it as much as I'd like. Ah Well either a Space Hulk terminator or a more Gal Vorbak next!
GrandMagnus
Looks great, although I think it could have looked even better if the flames had been a more etheral/warped colour to stand out amongst the red power armour. And I just noticed that you can see the marines right eye under the warped helmet, that is a really nice detail.
Tzen
Yeah, I agree. I did toy about with painting the flame a blue/green ethereal colour and I may just do that. But actual fire is very iconic for Word Bearers, so i just plumped for the way it is now.
sockwithaticket
That guy is a real brute. The grey bone spurs are a nice cold and neutral touch to bring to an otherwise warm and vibrant model, somewhat ironically that makes them stand out more. I think most examples of Gal Vorbak floating around on the web use some sort of non-traditional fire colour which could explain why it can look a bit off to use normal colours. This looks fine, though, sufficiently different in colour and tone to stand out from the armour. I would say that the black tips are a bit stark and the transition from orange to these could be smoother, maybe a red would have sufficed? At the same time I'm not a fan of black tipped flames anyway as a technique, just a personal preference,Stellar work all round as usual, though. Tzen
So work has begun on the final three Gal Vorbak miniatures! http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/gv3.0.jpg So far so good!
ephrael
I'm excited to see all of your Gal Vorbak finished. I absolutely love the sculpts and I also love the amazing paint jobs you've done so far. The one on the far left of your last pic is my favorite of the five sculpts so far. There's just something about his left arm that's positively "wrong" in a good way. Do you mind if I ask if the bits that are molded separate from the bodies, some of the arms for example are interchangeable between the 5 body sculpts? I was also wondering if any of their heads were cast seperately from the bodies? I want a squad of 10 at the very minimum for my WB and I'd like to make them look like individuals as much as possible.
GrandMagnus
How do you paint your reds? Im trying to get a good red colour for the WB but having some trouble?

However they all seem really easy to convert! How do you paint your reds? Im trying to get a good red colour for the WB but having some trouble? I'll have to pass on this. I get asked this a lot so I am going to do a guide for it soon. However here is a list of paints I use in the order they get used: Scab red (khorne red in new paints?) Nuln oil Scab red Mephiston red Blazing Orange (no idea what the new version of this is called) Sunburst Yellow (Same again) 80/20 White/blazing orange. Hope that helps :(
