Scars Episode XI Updated 16/10 (Spoilers)

Recommended Posts

I've seen my fair part of threads being hijacked by a bunch of rabid fans (yeah, I am thinking about Space Wolves). This thread is cool and really interesting. Let's just keep the "That Primarch beats that Primarch EZ, who's counting the points ?" for another thread where the lock wouldn't be as painful as it would be here.

EDIT : Nothing personal, Greyall. I'm sure you meant well, but I'd be sad to see interesting threads like this one getting locked.

Re: Khan's size vs (bear with me) Mortarion, my first explanation is that Morty's terminator armour leaves him slightly hunched over, but then doesn't astartes-issue terminator armour (closest comparison without looking at Horus, accounts of who are pretty biased (Deliverance lost etc)) give a height advantage even if the occupant is hunched over? Not a deal at all, but since its been brought up it's a little authorial curiosity.

Edit: minor spelling

And I've still to find evidence of Mortarion being the personification of vitality, is that still a tune being played?

He's more the personfication of Endurance.

That goes without saying, but I remember reading some relatively recent BL piece (would appreciate some back-up) that noted Morty was, in person, the most... vitalic of the primarchs. Which obviously surprised me given Fulgrim and now thanks to Scars, Jaghatai.

My bet is that the Emperor's true name is....HORUS!! and no, I'm not joking about it

You know, a lot of people compare Dan Abnett to the Emperor.

I mean he's cool and all...but he's still not Dan Abnett. biggrin.png

Mostly because the Emperor has a pretty long hair and Dan Abnett doesn't tongue.png

But seriously, It's a name that would surprise the Khan, why not Horus? he was the first son he found, maybe he named him with his own name.

That or Chuck Norris.

It's......... KHAAAAAAAAN!(Noonien Singh)

I mean, think about it, super intelligent, wants to be leader of mankind to usher mankind into a new and brighter tomorrow and has no problem breaking open (several)eggs to make the omelet.

And the name would surprised Jaghatai...it makes sense hahaha

I think I was 12 in ancient history and from that one epic I delved deeper into ancient history, Greek Egyptian Nordic all the greats but my heart still belongs to the epic of Gilgamesh

When I was a tyke, I saw little difference between the likes of The Death of Arthur and the Animorphs. It was all about fantastical worlds that I could escape into on my own time, rather than required school reading. I come from a non-religious household, and I remember a weekend morning where I had no books or games in my room to occupy myself while the rest of my family still slept. So I read the Bible. It wasn't until I reached that age, about twelve, that I got a teacher who actually separated it for me, that made me realize that my love of beliefs and histories was an academic pursuit, more than just the adolescent escapism I have yet to, and am unwilling to, grow out of. Mr. Schmidt was one of those rare teachers, those who actually change the course of a child's life for the better on a regular basis. With America's public school system, they're hard to find.

True, Lord Ragnarok, those were awesome as well, but somehow they didn't ring very true to me. As I mentioned, the Khan is wise, but wise in a hermit's way, in that his knowledge and philosophy are vertical, rather than transversal. He knows a lot about those matters he delves into, but those reside in his comfort zone, and the Scars' Primarch has a very hard time leaving it.

So the Khan's opinion on Fulgrim is biased, it seems based on what he believes should be a warrior's demeanour. Khan and his Scars come from a very "down-to-earth" world and context, whereas Fulgrim's story, while having started in a pretty backwater place, has evolved to a more modern setting that allows him and his soldiers to enjoy their way of life in more 'frivolous' ways. The Khan takes that for lightheartedness and a playful approach to things, when the reality is that Fulgrim is obsessed with succeeding and the Emperor's Children tend to leave no details untouched. Their vanity, while obnoxious, is a more a product than an instrument.

Primarch on Primarch action:

Lion vs Curze: 0-1; 1-0; 0-1- Victory: Traitors

According to ADB the first fight was a draw. IMO, the story (as in the words on the page) don't seem to be describing a draw, but if  authour commentary holds significant weight (as it probably should), then the fight is a draw because ADB says so...

Sure, when the fight was broken up, the Lion was on the losing side. But how many squillions of fights between heroes/characters/protagonists/villains have we seen where the guy on the losing side has a second wind (cracking a rock against the head of the guy strangling him) and turns the tide a moment later. It happens all the time. These are warriors that can fight for days and days. Yet another mortal wound is nothing to them.

Oh yeah...and we know that Curze is to some degree affected by Chaos. Whether or not it helps him in combat is unknown. However, I would be surprised if it doesn't grant any bonus at all.

he's a haunted, screwed-up, psychopathic, murdering madman on an endless crusade, fighting every single day, commanding massive armies against his own empire, while receiving visions of his own death from an unknowable source, and being - unarguably, in 20 years of lore - affected to some degree by the power of Chaos, whether he wants to admit it or not.
