Oh no, I completely understand, mate. The problem is though that while that form of vertical lock will allow the wielder to be able to stab people with his shield effectively, that significantly decrease the actual worth of the shield. If he tries hold it up to guard his stomach, he leaves his legs and head prone. If he raises it to cover his head, he leaves his torso and legs prone. That's just a bad waste of a shield if you ask me. :(

Yeah, this just looks wrong to me:

http://i62.tinypic.com/91l9o5.jpg

noctus, nice blurb. It's the because, y'know, power armour effect, in that the shield is going to be useful only in protecting the exposed cabling/head, and therefore has the widest part covering those areas. Think 300 might be rattling around in the back of my head too (hardly a reliable historical source I know) with regards to influencing a kneeling, forearm up, pointy bit dug in ground defensive stance. As for -

... but the fact still remains that the sharp edge, for lack of a better word, is facing forwards rather than backwards.

Aha, but Khorne thought of that, hence the studded top on the flat edge on mine. :wink.:

My spares are being strung out to make some IWs, and my bolter/breachers will follow suit with the conventional pose:

http://i58.tinypic.com/fvvi21.jpg

which is fine for rank and file, but the champion needed something different.

As it is, it'll be midweek before bits arrive, and I'll see what creativity the knives conjour up.....

Well, I certainly don't want too keep arguing just for the sake of arguing, but I was rather thinking of a pose like this:

Anyway, you know what you like best, so definitely go with that! :)

Well, started work on what will eventually be a Phalanx of Khorne..... Waiting on a few more bits to arrive, but it's taking shape:

The basic concept

http://i61.tinypic.com/23ve3ww.jpg

The legwork

http://i62.tinypic.com/ei08pk.jpg

The variety of heads

http://i58.tinypic.com/33c3oee.jpg

Think the plan is to have three pairs with similarly angled lances, a bare-headed standard hiding in the rear, and the champion leaping forth from the middle. Still debating whether to add WFB Marauder cloaks and where (on or under backpack) but that's something for later.

40k World Eater Lancers ? Anyone seen any prior examples ?

Cheers Yogi. Mk V epitomises WEs for me, and I was very lucky in snagging a few cheap, second-hand packs and assorted bits off eBay. Sometimes they're miscasts that someone has requested replacements for already, but in this case they were in pretty great condition.

Progress, in so far as forcing myself to clear the wip table.

Juggers VII and XIII, Fist and Ultra:

http://i58.tinypic.com/doxket.jpg

Especially like the Ultra one lapping away at smurf salty tears.  :D The cocktail stick prop is a tad unsightly, but a necessary evil.

With the lord:

http://i61.tinypic.com/214caj9.jpg

And that's only half of his retinue. Crazy scary when I eventually complete the other four. As for the rest, there's the lil' ML scout I kitbashed, and the first test run for the Lancers:

http://i57.tinypic.com/16owau.jpg

I think the champ for these fellows is becoming a favourite for sure. How I'll top these guys with generic Bezerkers I'm unsure. As for running them in-game, the possibility of Possessed sprung to mind, with the extra stats, demonic weapons Vs claws, and the shields as a demonic save. Covers the bases and slightly more interesting than Chosen with power weapons or something.

Back to work then !

"Steal ? STEAL ?! RAAAAWRSMASH !!!"

http://i58.tinypic.com/2j2hvly.jpg

He's none too happy, but I've no problem with it.  :D  Love this guy, looking so dynamic already, and moreso when I finish his static brethren. Side view here:

http://i57.tinypic.com/14ng1hy.jpg

Recent purchase next, grabbing some of the old casualty figs, to use in objective markers.

http://i58.tinypic.com/sblo2u.jpg

Plan was to make them Scars.....but I've found that the detailing and such is a tad too ornate, too imperial lol. Certainly suits Ultras, Fists, BT etc, but thon huge bolter-holding armpad and the gothic chest shield are a tad ungh, so onto alternative plans.....

a) convert them completely to Scars

b) paint them as something else

Now, touring about the Astartes neighbours brings up some interesting choices, namely the Celestial Guard, White Panthers, and thon Fists. Now, I'm terrified of yellow after the helm last update, the Panthers might be too similar, but the CG could be an interesting diversion.

There's the schemes, and I'm open to suggestions, whether it be either plan or a different chapter altogether. Like the ol' Johnny Five..... NEED INPUT.

Champ looks awesome, I'd vote for the Celestial Guard as well. Could be a nice contrast from your Scars and the WE.

Ps I do love the way you use the word 'thon' not enough people use it haha :D

Long overdue an update with some colourful flourishes of old, underused turns of phrase, but alas my painting mojo has forsaken me. It's as if the crushing expectation of the ETL has weighed too heavily.....or that early morning work is killing me.

Or something.

Anyway, no progress on paint has allowed excessive eBay wheeling and dealing, and my Scars are sitting pretty on whole new trios of speeders, some basic MMs, some Tempest/Typhoon hybrid prototypes, along with more bikes and the glut of Mk 1 Rhinos numbering around 20. Eeeek ! The boxes of organised sprues and bits are showing no signs of slowing.....

Needed a diversion to pep me up, and so I returned to some fellows I fielded during 2nd Ed, the aforementioned IW breacher concept, and added a lil' champ to my wee planned squad:

http://i62.tinypic.com/zumk5s.jpg

http://i61.tinypic.com/2uh67t5.jpg

Think they'll be touted for sale upon completion, after numerous pics of course. No real place in the army, but they're providing good practice for the subsequent WE ones, certainly with the problems of lots of cutting to position the bolter arms.

Skullcrusher heads sans bunny ears are absolutely perfect, and although I was tempted to add replacement horns, I think the plain style looks more effective. Anything but red for now thanks.......

The Champs looking good buddy. I'm the same at the moment I'm completely scunnered with Red. So much so I've started painting some more terrain as a little break. Looking forward to seeing the IW unit finished though.

Pheeew......speediest build yet, possibly due to a deep-rooted love and a fond remembrance of my old army.

The completed Iron Warriors, for your viewing pleasure:

http://i58.tinypic.com/25fz6.jpg

http://i62.tinypic.com/2h6dkqa.jpg

http://i59.tinypic.com/e6zhn9.jpg

Front, side and rear, with a squad leader centre, and champ lurking in the rear. Stuck to a gritty look, eschewing the hazard stripes (bless my shaky hands), and even the 'happy' accident of the MkV pad worked a treat (no spare Chaos pads left).

Really like the Skullcrusher helms, and tried to frame them as best I could with the shield ports:

http://i57.tinypic.com/nb3oth.jpg

As for Champion, he's a tad brighter looking, probably due to a slight brown wash and the crest, but still fits in rather well. The Kromlech legs and repurposed DP tabard add a bit of decoration, and I'll possibly cram a pistol holster under the pointing arm:

http://i62.tinypic.com/292nyol.jpg

http://i61.tinypic.com/n6s0o6.jpg

Now I'm torn on whether to keep or sell them. They make rather nice Plague Marines, especially with the addition of an AC gunner. Hmmmm.

C&C welcome, and time to head for work.

Yes, wonderful work on the IW breachers! Though using the Skullcrusher heads like that seems ever so slightly heretical, they work extremely well for Iron Warriors. In fact, here's an idea in case you ever decide to build more breachers: Cutting away the piece of helmet between the two eyeholes on some of the helmets will lead to a very nice, "cyclopean" look that perfectly fits IW. I used it on a kitbashed Pre-Heresy Marine here.

The Kromlech legs on the champ are also a very nice fit. And using that DP tabard as a chain cape is a touch of genius.

Well played, sir, well played

eBay.

I lurve eBay. Not only have I managed to pick up 3 brand new scout bikers (plus bits) for 8 quid, but also a bitz box at the same price. Had some dozer blades and stowage for my Rhinos, so it was worth a punt.

What looked like a fairly innocent box turned up as a ball wrapped envelope, containing about  a kilo of plastic:

http://i59.tinypic.com/nq5myv.jpg

And this is an hour's progress after trying to sort it out:

http://i58.tinypic.com/2rnv2ao.jpg

Tank bitz galore, cloaks, lances, SM arms, torsos and pads galore. Night goblin bows and Mongol hat gobbo heads, perfect for trophies/decoration, slimline Chaos pads and weapons galore for my Bezerkers. Flails with chain for conversions, so many shields, banners and heads it's unreal. A whole collection of brick wall scenery.......

Sometimes it's worth a gamble, and this lot couldn't have been any closer to a perfect combination. It was destiny. Guess it'll be a busy weekend ahead.  :)

There's already a WS elite sniper/hunter taking shape......

Well, bits sorted, and bagged up. There's a lot of great stuff, including some special lil' tidbits.

Anyhoo, started tooling around with redesigning my Khans, given my new ideas of organisation.

So, the Kor'sorro body will become Ebugen Khan, the scout captain, and a new Dagan Khan emerges:

http://i62.tinypic.com/iyzfk7.jpg

Liking the (goblin donated) hat, fits brilliantly, and has a certain bulk overall that'll fit with combi-melta Sternguard accompanying him. Might replace the spike with a ponytail/plume, but looks good so far.

Trying Bho'su with different heads, something shouty in pose, and still debating loadout. Dual claws ? TH+SS ? What works for an assault oriented Khan ? Ideas and input pleeease ?

http://i62.tinypic.com/4i0mt2.jpg

And finally, the sharp-eyed amongst you will have noticed the sharp-eyed fellow in the background. Essentially based soley around that natty little bird piece, the tradition of falconry in Mongol society came through and I knocked together this guy. Probably looking at a bare head and holding the rifle in that position, but just a concept that need work.

http://i58.tinypic.com/357fy1g.jpg

So, really looking for ideas for the Khan, and a special request to those daemon kitbashers around:

I have found the armoured, chainmail mouthpiece Ogre head from the Leadbelchers kit (?) in the bits. Am I right in thinking I've seen a Bloodthirster converted with this head ? Does it fit in scale with the standard Bloodthirster kit, or would I be looking at a DP plastic kit ? Had a quick skim through the likely suspects, Bio, ElDude, Kraut, but my memory has failed me.....

Cheers for the speedy reply. So, a plastic DP it is. As much as I need a Bloodthirster, the available kits are just a tad too fantastical, and I'm looking for an alternative that's a bit more 40k. Still wondering where I saw that one.....

As for the Khan, there's something about current lightning claws that just don't work for me. Didn't they used to look, I dunno, sexier back in the day ? Guess my 2nd Ed memories are somewhat confused.  :D  Still, I'll have a rake around for another, and I guess it'll match his dual-chainsword bodyguard (now utilising WS biker bodies) but more on them later.

For now, more thinking required on the sniper, and the word......

What ?

Don't you know about the word ? Well, everybody knows that the bird is the word.

#Bird, bird, b-b-b-bird, well ah, bird, bird, bird, bird is the word...... #     (greatest bit I've seen, at the perfect time. Kit ?)
