Biohazard
The chain mail ogre head was used by Wade Pryce on his Belakor conversion. I used the head from the Scraplauncher cannon on my Bloodthirster build initially before changing back to the Defiler/GS route. When building my BT I added Hive Tyrant legs to the plastic DP kit to give it a little extra height etc to differentiate it from the standard one. I still adding GS to it when I get time bit I'll soon be finished......hopefully. oldschoolsavant
Cheers Bio.....found it ! http://i60.tinypic.com/2iotqg.jpg Yeees. That'll work. Seems I have a matching pair of Cygor hooves too, so we'll see how it all adds together. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279146-osss-wip-of-skulls-and-scars/page/5/#findComment-3719365 Share on other sites
oldschoolsavant
Two things I've learnt this weekend: -it's really too hot to paint, drying too quickly, clumpy and chalky -because of the heat, I can crack on pretty sharpish as a result of the quick drying So, a double-edged sword, unlike this fella's choice power tulwar: Tabudai Arat Han - Dagan Jagun - White Scars http://i59.tinypic.com/16k9t7a.jpg Tabudai Arat (trans: "fifth herdsman") has served within Dagan Jagun (5th Brotherhood/Company) with untold dedication, a staunch and vocal defender of the continued inclusion of Devastators within the battle order of White Scar formations, and a strategist and tactician of the highest order. Currently he is bestowed with the rank of Han (Vet. Sgt.) and a ceremonial bronze pauldron marking him as the equivalent of Master of Armour, a position normally undertaken by a Company Captain in other chapters, but somewhat tarnished in the eyes of the Scars. Nevertheless, he has utilised his knowledge in perfecting co-ordinated attacks between typical Devastators and those who crew the numerous pieces of armour at his disposal. Commanding from a vantage point with his communication array, Tabudai has perfected the hit-and-run tactics normally associated with the lighter assault elements, directing Devastator firepower to weaken an enemy position, hitting it hard with a subsequent tank attack, before ordering further Devastator fire allowing the swift withdrawal of the vehicles, covered from afar. And close ups: http://i59.tinypic.com/5yautf.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/opzgqa.jpg PITA white as ever, but I really like that pauldron, despite arsing up the text detail a tad. Something to look at again later. As for his tanks/squad, they're a ways away, so here's a LSS instead: http://i58.tinypic.com/i6fk7l.jpg Another one down, two hundred odd to go..... oldschoolsavant
Raarrgh. Hellbrute 95% done, needs some extra touchups, but the basics are done: http://i59.tinypic.com/5dt2pu.jpg http://i58.tinypic.com/doxr8n.jpg Lot of work but worth it for the ranged loadout. Again, thon bitz box provides with the iron-bound skeleton, a lovely addition in place of the basic chains I had originally planned. What wasn't planned was the way it sort of interacts with the hasty plug-filling skull on the torso (after cutting out the tentacle bits) as if the original 'Brute pilot has some affinity to the skeleton, poking it's head free. Don't know if I'll be able to highlight/work on this happy accident, but I'll try. And with his companion: http://i62.tinypic.com/33453qb.jpg Next ? Waiting on a few bits for the new lightweight/piecemeal Bezerkers idea I have, and my solution for hating the Helldrake model.....hopefully with an extra special bonus. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279146-osss-wip-of-skulls-and-scars/page/5/#findComment-3729405 Share on other sites
oldschoolsavant
So, between naming chapters and wondering where Jaspcat went, I've been crouched by the letterbox waiting for the recent purchase. Behold ! I can't stand the dinobot Helldrake, and I've searched for a cheap one of these for ages: http://i60.tinypic.com/k0rkg2.jpg Bit warped on one wing, but nothing a hot bath won't fix. Also included in the joblot were some 2nd Ed Berzerkers, a metal Champ, some RW Renegade torsos (used for Rhino crews + serfs) and some freebies due to the question of whether they were recasts. Namely a HH Rampager squad and a complete Decimator Engine ! Rampagers were such a hark back to the awful bare limb/skull head minis concept, but done correctly. I've always loved the idea, and they'll take pride as my main Berzerker squad. Currently on the workspace to assemble/pose: http://i59.tinypic.com/19p9ie.jpg Some parts are awful, but the heads/torsos/legs are in great condition given their questionable origin. I wouldn't normally touch them, but as bundled freebies, I'm not complaining ! Decimator is similar, decent body but poor limb joints. Unsure where to fit it in, but possibly as a Brute Alpha. Anyhoo, back to the curse that plagues all Khornate collectors. The infamous Ham-Fist Berzerker Sprue. Nobody really likes it, but it's the only choice. From my bits, I've sent the bunny helms to the 'saner' WE CSM, and the static legs used throughout to distinguish between CSM and the crazy fellas. The huge problem I have is an arm shortage, as those ham abominations were relegated to spares (despite all the chain axe loveliness sob). So, carrying on the bare arm theme, hello Chaos Marauder bits ! http://i60.tinypic.com/34r993m.jpg You could argue the arms are a little off-scale, but after the removal of PA, I think they're about right. Using the light shoulder pauldrons helps, and the Warrior heads will be shaved down to a smooth outline, ears would just complicate things with all the flailing and frenzied hacking. They'll tie in with the Rampagers hopefully, and retain the Berzerker idea of being completely mental, falling apart and completely oblivious. Without ridiculously comical skull faces. There was something else in the works earlier in the week, but some lads in white robes popped round, so I had to hide the stuff. Think I'll go for the original HH black and drab brown..... http://i57.tinypic.com/28whs90.jpg You didn't see anything. Right ? oldschoolsavant
Quick update: http://i61.tinypic.com/2jcjdi.jpg Soooo annoying to complete those axes, replacing the warped shafts with cobbled replacements using banner poles. But I love them. http://i59.tinypic.com/ngvtzo.jpg Still got the ball/chain guys to look at. They're even fiddlier ! And yet another bitz box on the horizon...... Thoughts ? oldschoolsavant
Yep, and I'll bet that was the same one I was after ! (lots of CSM/SM spares ?) The other I settled for was fairly cheap, but with a few surprises like the a limited edition Captain, and more importantly a Bloodthirster axe/whip combo. That's essential for later...... Continued progress today, with a funny captcha - "giant bunny rabbit". So meet "giant chuffin' chainsword": http://i62.tinypic.com/2v3hllj.jpg Two CSM chainswords, and a WFB Chaos Warrior hammer, and the pic is fairly self-explanatory should anyone want to copy. Gave up on ball/chain for one guy, and this is his alternative: http://i59.tinypic.com/2i26cub.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/359011v.jpg Whatever will crop up next ? Biohazard
Ooooohh! I like that! That is a meaty looking chib! Yeah could be the one I got. It had loads of stuff. I could see most of a ForgeFiend and loads of other CSM/SM bits as well as loads of WHFB banners dragon wings etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279146-osss-wip-of-skulls-and-scars/page/5/#findComment-3739982 Share on other sites
oldschoolsavant
Forgefiend sounds familiar.....dammit. Think I'll be making a second giant chainsword for a Champ now, to go with my chainsword WE CSM, and Mk4 chainaxe fella can join up with another chainaxe squad (one of two, after salvaging junk Berzerkers). Funnily enough, I think watching the Berserk movies last week has influenced the idea more than I thought...... I keep chopping and changing, but I prefer conformity to my squads ! oldschoolsavant
Bitsssssss.....Khorne spawn heads, symbols, arms and backpacks ahoy. Throw in a bag of basic CSM parts, a few loyalist special parts and a veritable sack of scenery/wall bits and I'm happy. Metal highlights: http://i57.tinypic.com/2ev6ty1.jpg Thirster bits yay ! Captain/Stern yay ! Huron (needing tidied) meh ! And the NL champ was an absolute boon, considering I found him piece by piece starting with the helm wings. I'm no NL fan, but I've lost a few listings chasing after one. Now, does anyone have a spare Skullcrusher Champ head ? Pleeeeease ? In possession of a couple of beaky heads as in my avatar, but finding the one head for the crest is troublesome. I'm looking at an on-foot PA version of my Lord, possibly utilising Kraut's Deathwing flail suggestion......and I'll be damned if he won't have the same head. GhostMalone
Jaspcat's here he's just lost motivation and still lurks in the dark corners of the forum. oldschoolsavant
Well, after 10 days with no internet (thanks Mr BT engineer this morning !) you'd think I'd have plenty of time for painting. Unfortunately enthusiasm has been lacking with the glorious sunshine and beer garden opportunities on offer the past week. Managing to catch up with the various updates through the WIPs I've missed and thought I'd sling a few pics up myself. http://i60.tinypic.com/21ec412.jpg http://i57.tinypic.com/2iu5iyf.jpg Fluff ideas rattling around for the champ, and more backstory for the Celestial Guard, but slow progress as ever. Flying base arrived so the Hellblade/Drake will be getting some attention soon. Any suggestions to add as a base diorama for a challenge ? oldschoolsavant
Cheers Kraut. There's certainly something to be said for Mk2 armour, definitely growing on me for use amongst Veterans. Was very close to ordering Mk2 legs for the Kete Kheshig that's planned for later. (and if anyone figures what they'll be, you'll win a cookie) Just noticed this thread is nearing 10k views ! Think I'll set about something different this weekend to celebrate....... oldschoolsavant
So, a celebration...... After a 40k resurgence on my usual forum, I looked around for a new home, somewhere I could set up shop, and begin a plog of sorts. Dakka was a sea of noise, BoLS seemed 'special', and specific places like ToS looked a bit deserted. Then somebody suggested the B&C, based off an old link to Dan The Daemon's NL thread. Sold. It's busy enough without being noisy, the distinctive personalities shine, some serious skills on show, and all with a light banter on occasion. And so I lurked for a few months, before finally taking the plunge, little realising I'd have just over 10k views within a year. So, in tribute, I began a small thank you on Fri evening with some hasty painting Sat, and here Sun. I hold no love for the NL, their Alice Cooper/KISS theatrics holding no straw to my ol' NIN/KMFDM Iron Warriors of 2nd Ed, and an old running joke of a Space Wolf Lord and his 5pt Mesmerising Air Guitar Solo forcing Ld tests to act in days gone by...... But the NL make up a number of valued members, and DtD's thread was my initial exposure..... http://i62.tinypic.com/307m3if.jpg http://i57.tinypic.com/2gy2g7d.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/2606hw9.jpg A big thank you to the B&C community, (and the pesky NLs) here's to another year and 20k ! I just hope Khorne is not too upset with my transgression.... gaurdian31
The NL used to be Khorne worshipers back in the Slaves of Darkness book so I'm sure he I'll b fine! Also I should add that you have some lovely models and you inspired me to create a bloodletter champion out of blood rider bits myself. Thank you for the awesome idea! oldschoolsavant
@ gaurdian31 Glad I could inspire you. Sod GS, I prefer the cheap and simple methods. Was hoping for biggish update, but my rushing and tired eyes meant I've spotted so many issues in the photos, and completely obvious ones at that. Still a banner to complete too, but seeing as the last pic was DSC00888.....hell, that's a sign if ever there was one ! http://i58.tinypic.com/311mhix.jpg Touch-ups, fluff and better pics tomorrow hopefully. KrautScientist
The Ravagers are looking really sexy in red and bronze! Excellent work! However, I'd like to point out one thing that I think is letting down your models: Your conversion work is excellent. The paintjobs are great as well. Your models ooze malice and character -- but the bases are really not up to snuff. I know it sounds petty to criticise something like that, but it really feels your models would be hugely improved by better bases: Something with a little more texture and a slightly more exciting design. And I am also not all that hot on the colour, although that may just be personal preference. Again, the models themselves are always a treat, no two ways about that. But I cannot help imagining how much sweeter your World Eaters might be with "proper" bases. Hope you'll take this as the constructive criticism I intended it to be! Keep up the amazing work! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279146-osss-wip-of-skulls-and-scars/page/5/#findComment-3765366 Share on other sites
