oldschoolsavant
@Jasp You've enough on your plate without dallying into BFG ! (like removing mold lines) @Flint Everything looks better with bunny ears. Well, after Jasp plonked his HH JP squad up, I figured I'd crack on with my own, by woe are we dealing with metal packs. You get so used to plastic and resin, you forget how unbalanced things get when metal enters the mix. Nonetheless: http://i60.tinypic.com/t68kmd.jpg http://i61.tinypic.com/b8jx3s.jpg Looking at one 8-man squad of leaping assault types, and another 8-man of stoic types, including the two essential melta. Static legs might be underwhelming, but they'll save a lot of hassle and cursing. And just for fun, my "tower of doom": http://i62.tinypic.com/2q222vn.jpg Working my way through the Khorne/WE cases yep, but the WS tagged ones have every space filled with a mini to be assembled and painted. And that's not including the vehicles....eeeek ! oldschoolsavant
Cranked out a quick test Raptor today: http://i59.tinypic.com/2i1il4w.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/33urcds.jpg Think the old backpacks are a great slab of colour, although my attempts at purple heat tarnish ended in failure. Too much wash and not enough definition methinks. Was trying to find a tutorial around here but no joy, so any pointers would be great. http://i59.tinypic.com/2vsrdjr.jpg 15 to go. Ugh. Highs and lows on eBay, losing out on a superb Chaos BFG collection thanks to a freeze glitch during bidding (no, not my own fault for last minute sniping ), managing to replace that loss with sneaky wins elsewhere, and ordering myself a nice boardgame for Xmas. Well, all right, two copies of a boardgame, one sans miniatures. No prizes for guessing. oldschoolsavant
No, the 250-300 White Scars waiting in the wings. They're the hardest ! oldschoolsavant
Reds ? All of them I think...... Khorne >Mephiston > Nuln Oil wash > Mephiston > Evil Sunz as a basic process. Evil Sunz is the tricky part, as I've never really perfected highlights, damn my artistic deficiency. Bit of Wild Rider on the extreme edges, but it's occasionally a bit too orange. It's a fine line between Word Bearer and old-school Blood Angel. Of course, all that effort doesn't show well in the pics..... Flint13
Those jump packers are looking quite lovely, Mr. Soviet. Your reds are really rich, but I love your gold work. It looks weathered and ancient without looking grungy. Great job there! oldschoolsavant
@Pearson - cheers, always happy to see folk looking back @Noctem - hopefully the WE will be out of the way soon, time for Scars then @KrautS - truthfully ? I hated those packs when they first appeared. Think it was the bird feet in combination, because now I love 'em ! Thanks for the praise fellas, although I'm disappointed at the lack of further Santa-hatted minis elsewhere. oldschoolsavant
Thanks fellas, for the kind praise. Currently trying to finish the first squad, second are posed awaiting undercoat, and fiddling around with something else..... "When the dust storms hit lads, sound becomes your only tool. Use it wisely, and learn to recognise the differences.......the rumble of a Rhino, the put-put-put-squeal of the enemy jumptroops, or the tortured screams of something far, far worse. When you hear that....thing....hide, and pray that death doesn't find you....." - Sgt Meliodas / 6th IDF / Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279146-osss-wip-of-skulls-and-scars/page/7/#findComment-3902590 Share on other sites

oldschoolsavant
Finished the first group: http://i61.tinypic.com/eu5355.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/uvh3b.jpg So, the final four in the first pic, and champ to the fore in the latter. Think I'll refer to the Raptors/planned bikes as the Eyes of Khorne, the scout element of the force, and although hidden somewhat, they've lots of pouches/'nades around the waist, which also gave another area to secure the packs with glue. Dreading painting the next eight.... Seen a few army/progress pics aboot, so I thought I'd follow suit: (not the best shot on reflection) http://i61.tinypic.com/30ldpnn.jpg And finally, my holiday project: http://i60.tinypic.com/mhylcg.jpg I've never been a fan of the BA, moreso after their Twillight-emo-vampire stylings, and I also knew the majority of the models would be a huge PITA to de-icon. So I've kept the five easiest to clean up to Scars, including deck-tearing boyo who'll be converted to be reaching into a crate for a reload. The rest will find new homes (because I couldn't do them justice either) and be replaced by THE TRUE HULK GANG ! Deathwing. One DV set, one DW command box, 25mm square bases and a few more legs and gathered bits to model twelve replacements. I'm scunnered with red at times, so I'll lose my mind trying bone shirley....... ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279146-osss-wip-of-skulls-and-scars/page/7/#findComment-3909183 Share on other sites

oldschoolsavant
Halp ! Trying to think of ideas for SH basing, and I thought about this: http://i58.tinypic.com/iyezq9.jpg Scanned tiles, resized and pasted on top of the square bases, with acetate or something on top to secure the minis to. It's a nice idea, but I'm struggling with execution (or a rubbish printer) especially with the colour bleeding (how it came out purple first ?!) but I've got it to this stage: http://i60.tinypic.com/k0tfp.jpg The colour and contrast work okay, but the damn print lines are an eyesore. Possibly head to Tesco/Boots to try their higher quality printers (I hope) and see what happens, but any advice from anyone who's tried something similar would be great. Certainly on the right path, just the kinks to iron out..... ED: Hardly exciting stuff for a new page, so here's my new Libby, and the easy way to arrange the other eleven: http://i60.tinypic.com/34e5gzs.jpg http://i57.tinypic.com/16hqauc.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279146-osss-wip-of-skulls-and-scars/page/7/#findComment-3911426 Share on other sites
