chaplainmikey
Been a while since I've posted but I thought I'd wait until I'd painted a decent amount of models rather than starting a log and only ever posting pics of 1 squad like I previously have done. I was supposed to be painting my Daemons but was massively side-tracked when I bagged a decent sized Marine army for my Birthday. Decided to go for the Minotaurs, for a few reasons. I own the IA 12 book and enjoyed reading about their background, love their fluff and I thought the colour scheme was something I could pull off reasonably well whilst not spending hours on a single Marine. I did add more red to their shoulder pads though to break up the massive amounts of bronze. I also think my guys are quite a bit brighter than most other Minotaurs. Not sure how that happened, but oh well. I lke 'em. So, Pics of my stuff so far: http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1400_zps5d5512e1.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1401_zps098d71f8.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1402_zps921958f2.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1404_zpsd808830c.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1403_zpscbc4d643.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1405_zps11a5fbd4.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1407_zpsc8d89f96.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1406_zpsc8d221df.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1409_zpsb4086b0c.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1408_zpsa1b4b9ef.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1389_zps91eeb299.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1395_zps945bf77f.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/Photo1376_zps0a9e0914.jpg I'll be adding a box each of the new Tac Marines and ternguard once they are released ( can't wait! ) and maybe some Vanguard for bitz to spruce up my un-assembled Assault Squad. I also have a WIP Drop Pod on the go, which is testing my patience! Cheers, Mike. rag607
Bronze looks fantastic. Red does break it up nicely. Great stuff Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279234-mikeys-marine-projects-mephiston/#findComment-3442192 Share on other sites
LtSwifty
Lovely. A really clean and striking paint scheme, i respect that. Also love the little conversions to the weapons, often do that to my marines. The lascannon is really seamless. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279234-mikeys-marine-projects-mephiston/#findComment-3442299 Share on other sites
Firepower
Delicious Such smooth, even bronze, with just a touch of patina here and there. I feel you could've splurged just a bit more here and there and gotten a better effect, particularly on the vehicles. That's a lot of blank space on the rhino, and even painting some of the techy parts gunmetal or silver instead of bronze could've done some good. Some generous patina on the Dread may have been a catchy addition too, ancient as they are Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279234-mikeys-marine-projects-mephiston/#findComment-3442346 Share on other sites
KBA
Incredible Lascannon dev conversion. Very very nice army :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279234-mikeys-marine-projects-mephiston/#findComment-3442371 Share on other sites
Urauloth
That's a really nice bronze. Great work all around, the kitbashing is cool and that venerable dread really captures the flavour of the chapter. Â Never seen a psilencer-turned-lascannon before! I've bashed a couple psycannons into autocannons for my havocs, but this entirely unprecedented. What made you decide to do it? It certainly looks good. chaplainmikey
Thanks for all the comments. :)  Firepower - You're definitley right about the Vehicles. I want to go back and break up the bronze  with some black ot red( Rhino/ Raider side doors maybe?) and see about adding some more transfers or freehand for some focal points. The Dread was actually the 3rd model I painted for the army so I was still getting to grips with the scheme somewhat. ;) I also want to change the Talon's cockpit to black. The red is too much and it hives the impression the Pilot has sat on a live grenade. :P  Thanks for the honest criticism. :)  A Kvlt Ghost - Thanks. I'm sure I saw a similar Lascannon conversion somwhere on thd net, can't recall where though.. Its a really simple conversion to do but I can't take the credit for it. :P  I'm not sure how often I'll be able to update this because I haven't regular access to a PC/ laptop( only a crappy tablet) but I'll try yo update it as I finish more models.  Thanks again, Mike. chaplainmikey
Decided I'm going to use this thread to post pics of what I've been/ am working on rather than just the Minotaurs. So, we have a WIP Fulgrim to lead my post Heresy Emperor's Children, some of his sons', a Minotaurs Drop pod I finished a while back and my latest project, Crimson Fists: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279234-mikeys-marine-projects-mephiston/#findComment-3500308 Share on other sites

hushrong
Great looking minis, mikey! Â The Minotaurs and Crimson fists are sharp as a razor! It's your pink EC that have me drooling though. Fulgrim and those Kakophoni look phenomenal. Â Might I ask how did you paint the face of the bare headed Kakophoni? I would really like to imitate it. chaplainmikey
Thanks guys. :) Â Hushrong - If I recall correctly I did the skin with a Bugmah Glow base then completely layered over tha with Cadian Fleshtone. I highlighted tyat with Kislev Flesh and further with Screaming Skull. Â To get him to look a bit haggard I carefully applied a blue and then purple was around the eyes. Glad you liked the EC, they really are a pain to paint but the results can be very satisfying. Definitely my 'Labour of love' project. :)Â Â Cheers. Rhetoricus
Awesome work buddy, you suddenly decided to get all prolific since we last met up. chaplainmikey
Lol, I had a 2 month long painting splurge during the summer, mainly thanks to my dislike of hot weather. :PÂ Â I'd deffo be up for some painting. Would be nice to have some company for motivation. ;) Â Erm...7 EC. I stripped the Chaos Marind squad I did last year and recently decided to get painting them again. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279234-mikeys-marine-projects-mephiston/#findComment-3501515 Share on other sites
Rogan
Paladin- I do the armour as follows: Basecoat of Hashut Copper Wash of Agrax Earthshade Paint thinned Teclis Blue into the crevices for vedegris Layer on Sycorax Bronze Finish with an edge highlight of Runefang Steel Hope that helps. This will help a friend of mine who's just about to start a Minotaurs army. Thanks a lot in advance and on his behalf! Also, I like your Minotaurs and Crimson Fists. While the bronze tone looks very good (yet, in my opinion, a little too oxydized), the gentle blue and bright red just have that classic feel to them that kicks both miniatures up a notch My only point of criticism would be the purity seals, since they are quite plain in comparison to the rest of the miniature... Even the ones on the vehicles with scripture on them. However, my favourite ones are the EC leader and Kakophoni. The vibrant pink and that darker-than-space black really work extremely well together. The only thing that bothers me here are the chosen, and, to some extent, the WIP Fulgrim. Save for the unit's champion, they really pale in comparison to your leader. In particular because the darklining on the pink parts of the armour isn't done nearly as nice as on him and the Kakophoni, making them look less deep and even less carefully painted. By the way... My first real attempt at a themed army was an EC warband - I failed horribly back then, because I had totally wrong ideas of what these guys were doing during their days... But seeing that leader makes me want to revive that project. SO want to revive that project... chaplainmikey
Thanks for the honest feedback Rogan, much appreciated. ;)  On the subject of the Bronze I know a lot of people are doing Minotaurs lately and so there is a variety of different bronze  schemes out there, somw with more weathing and some with less. I went for more as I like the colour it add to the models. Glad you like the Fist though, was really happy with how they turned out! :)  The Chosen were painted last year when the Dark Vengeance set was released which is likely why they aren't quite at the level the rest of the EC are(and why I stripped an EC squad I painted around that same time). I love the Chosen with Power Fist though! I'm likely going to go back to Fulgrim and try to improve the shading.  Thanks again for the feedback! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279234-mikeys-marine-projects-mephiston/#findComment-3501578 Share on other sites
