War, death, blood, and honor. To those who walk the crimson path, these are our oldest comrades. When brothers fall and scars fade, When banners burn and swords break, only these things remain. War, death, blood, and honor. 

 

The roaring of chain-blades fill the air. Bolters spit death with thunderous voices and the clank of armored treads fills the air. This is the voice of conquest, the voice of war, in it's most pure and brutal form. Sergeant Taron regarded the devastation laid out before him. Red earth and gravel churned into a muddy paste by the passing of mighty tanks and the armored tread of the legion. The burnt-out and blackened shells of buildings littered the landscape like rotten teeth. The butchered remains of the pathetic human cattle who inhabited this place lay strewn about, the charnel stink of their eviscerated remains filling the air. His lip curled in distaste behind the brutal mask of his Mk.III war-helm. These creatures were beneath them, merely sheep for the slaughter. There was no honor to be gained here, no glory, only the massacre of deluded human chaff.

 

Taron strode towards one of the ruined buildings, his armored footfalls echoing through the devastated streets. The place had clearly been a toy store of some kind before a shell from one of the legion's Fellblades had landed next to it. Across the ruined entryway hung the letters, ' ames   rksh p.' The remaining letters seemed to have been destroyed by shellfire, not that it mattered to Taron. Entering the ruined shop, he scanned for any life signs or potential threats. As he panned his green-tinged vision around the room he noticed dozens of tiny figurines which, upon closer inspection, appeared to miniature representations of Astartes Legionnaires. Chucking with a sound like rocks grinding together, he picked up one of the tiny armored forms. As he inspected the little figure, he realized it was supposed to be a representation of a member of the XII Legion, the World Eaters.

 

This time a harsh bark of laughter issued forth from his helm's vocalizer unit, echoing around the ruined building. At the sound, a pile of rubble in the corner shifted, and a weak, plaintive cry of pain issued forth. Snapping his attention to the source of the noise, Taron stalked over to investigate. Beneath a fallen slab of rockcrete, lay a man in a red shirt. The slab had clearly crushed the lower half of his body and he bled from multiple shrapnel wounds. Taron placed one massive armored boot on the slab and leaned towards the mewling human, eliciting a cry of pain and causing the man's eyes to snap open.

 

"Is this what you think of us mortal?"

 

Taron's mighty voice thundered. The man quailed under the force of a voice that had given commands and roared in fury on hundreds of battlefields. 

 

"You think we are pristine, white-armored angels, sent to protect and uphold your weak existence? Look upon me mortal, is my armor clean? Am I a little pawn for you to play war with?"

 

The man was visibly shaking now and taron detected the scent of fresh urine.

 

"I am war! I am death! I am that which built the Empire you call home! We are not angels, we are not paragons of humanity, we are warriors! We bare the scars of war with pride and honor mortal, something you and your kind will never understand."

Taron flicked the little plastic figure at the man's chest before driving the sole of a massive armored boot into his head.

It just sucks that my first actual army ever my first project and 10 years of procrastination and the local store treat it like dirt.

 

Just means ill have to practice win a golden daemon and use it to decapitate them :P

I wouldn't let the opinion of anyone at a GW store bother you Jaspcat. They are sad little people who actually have little to do with the actual hobby in my personal experience. They are your miniatures which you lovingly bought, assembled and painted. Your enthusiasm has banded together a large group of Brothers from across the globe in a 30K project pledging their armies and friendship to your cause. What did the GW employee do with his time? Sell some overpriced miniatures and badly mauled background to little kids. I think you can safely say that you came out ahead even if this wasn't a contest.

since when your local GW became judge and executioner for the hobby. Damn the others are right, WE were not always mad berserkers, and they washed their armour between battles. They look grwat mate, don't let a GW prick get to you. I don't go in GW shops because employees always act like they know everything when they clearly don't. Continue on your great work, WE the wh30k community and i'm sure the wh40k community too think that your world eaters look great.

There's a full box of text  in 'Betrayal' (pg 96) and the various mentions in 'Betrayer'.

Don't forget that almost every Titan (demi-legio, almost exclusively Warhounds) has an Ursus Claw harpoon as one of its weapons.

This is what Aaron Dembski-Bowden originally said when someone asked him about colour schemes:

 

"Their heraldry is dark red trimmed with iron, and decorated with embers and cracked lava designs."

 

From 'Betrayer':

 

"...the dark colors of the Ember Wolves" and "[servitors] crawling over her red and black skin" is mentioned half-way through the book, in the scene where the Titans are being repaired.
