Brother Cambrius
Greetings denizens of the B+C! Some of you may remember a couple of years back my old "Operation Reclamation" thread, where I took abused and poorly built/painted/damaged Space Marines and proceeded to fix them up with some stripping and a new colour scheme befitting their status as the Emperor's Finest. Each mini I would "reclaim" would be given one of my numerous DIY colour schemes and perhaps a small background on that chapter. Thus far since I started in 2010, I have reclaimed over 20 miniatures, each in a different colour scheme and a small handful being used in my current Sons of Doom or Vanquishers army. So to give you an idea, here's how some of the original victims in need of some TLC looked, from an eBay job lot I won back in late 2009: It might not look too bad, but the white paint what Humbrol enamel, so the shoulder pads were a serious mess and the paint was put on thick for their eye lenses and other spots. These were in fact the least damaged minis from the lot I got, I've since gone on to fix other, even worse looking miniatures from this and another job lot I got for cheap. But here is how some of them look now, guarding a tactically vital "asset" : But that's the past, now onto the present with my newest effort in reclaiming damaged minis and giving them the paint job and love they deserve! This time I'm going seriously old school with something I got from a friend, which he once owned as a wee little 10 year old, it's scary to think this vehicle may very well be older than I am: Yes indeed! It's an old school Land Speeder, armed with a Multi Melta beneath the cockpit and a Heavy Flamer on the turret! I have no idea how this thing is put together as I didn't have any instructions, so once I've stripped it down, trying to build it will be fun! Actually if any old school veterans of the hobby are reading this, can I ask if all the pieces are there or is there anything missing I'll have to kitbash to replace it with? I also have another miniature currently in the stripping tub right now, which is going to become an Apothecary for my Vanquishers' Command Squad eventually: And that's that on this thread for now! I will be posting an Operation Reclamation - Completed thread in the Hall of honour very shortly, displaying my newest reclaimed mini after I made a HUGE boo boo involving a Storm Talon and a lamp being too close to it... Any comments etc. are greatly welcomed and appreciated! Madwolf Shadowmane
Pretty sure all the pieces for the Land speeder are there. I have one of those from the RT days. Eventually I will paint it in the striking colors of the Hounds of the Hunt. I was a fan of your previous thread so i will keep an eye on this one. Brother Cambrius
Thanks Madwolf! I'd love to see a classic Speeder in the Hounds' colours. I've decided I'm gong to paint up this Speeder, along with a modern one I possess in the colours of my Vanquishers chapter, since it suits their city-fighting prowess perfectly with rapid response assault-craft. I've now also posted up a Completed thread in the Hall of Honour forum, showcasing my "reclaimed" Storm Talon after I had a major boo-boo involving a desk lamp... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281092-operation-reclamation-26th-dec-rt-rhino/#findComment-3478517 Share on other sites

Those Speeders weren't released until 2nd Edition, in 1994. However, it does appear to be missing the tail section. Brother Cambrius
Veteran Sergeant you are a saint! Thank you so much for showing that! The only ither thing that is missing is the left arm of the gunner, but I've got plenty of bitz to replace it with. I'll see if I can recover the tail piece, as I'm certain it's somewhere in my numerous bitz boxes. Veteran Sergeant
The left arm was plastic. You can use any left arm bit. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281092-operation-reclamation-26th-dec-rt-rhino/#findComment-3478559 Share on other sites
Brother Cambrius
The left arm was plastic. You can use any left arm bit. Indeed. I'm thinking of maybe using a pointing arm, or just holding a classic bolt pistol as if he's firing whilst flying, like a badass. Unfortunately though, after a lot of searching, the tail is lost to me, so I need to consider something to replace it. :( I may use a modern Land Speeder's rear spoiler, but I need to find something for the bottom stem of the Speeder. Any ideas folks? Cambrius Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281092-operation-reclamation-26th-dec-rt-rhino/#findComment-3478733 Share on other sites
Volfen
If you have access to plastic card, the tail section shouldn't be too hard to replicate. Just remember, measure a bunch of times and cut once. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281092-operation-reclamation-26th-dec-rt-rhino/#findComment-3478753 Share on other sites
Brother Cambrius
Well I am happy to report some progress with Operation Reclamation! :D I gave the Apothecary and the Land Speeder two successive baths of Fairy Power Spray to get all the pesky old paint (I swear it was a Humbrol enamel...), I have now managed to completely strip the Land Speeder and Apothecary to an acceptable level to start work on them. I've decided to focus more on the Land Speeder as I am dying to give that a proper paint job the Emperor would smile upon, so that'll be the main subject in the coming posts. I did make a tail out of plasticard in the end too, following Volfen's advice of a bunch of measurements and only cutting once. Worked a treat and it fits in nicely with the Speeder. I've also glued some parts together already to get an idea of shape and frame: And of course, it's now been given some lovely base-coating so it's ready to paint up: Whilst it's not too visible, I've taken an Fist icon form the Drop Pod set and trimmed it down so it's just the Fist and I've glued it onto the front of the speeder. Can't mistake what descendancy this machine's from! And that's all for now, hopefully I'll have some more pictures with it having some basic paint on it soon! Brother Cambrius
-the rites of threadromancy are approved by the Administratum- Well now, time to bring back this old ongoing project of mine with the ETL back in full swing! Over the years I have been fixing up broken and abused models I have earned from eBay wins or from collections friends have had from a long, long time ago and this time it's time to bring it back with the first vow for the ETL. I pledged to complete a Dreadnought, armed with the TL Lascannon and CCW. This particular Dreadnoguht comes form the army my friend used, who helped to get me into the hobby 11 years ago(?!). It's been gathering dust for nearly a decade as well, damaged and in need to repair and love. As you can see, it seems to be in a relatively okay condition on first glance, although he was snapped off his base, which I glued back a while ago but there is damage in other places on the right side, as can be seen here: I have got some shin pad bitz to fix up the leg, but I might get creative with the lascannon nozzles. I intend to paint this Dreadnought up in the colours of my Vanquishers, as I have yet to give them a Dreadnought so this'll be a perfect time to do so. Let's get this going. When I finish this Dreaddy, he'll be going into the other Threadromancied HoH thread I have for this project too here. Wish me luck! FlamingDeth
If you have any styrene tubing on hand that could be a quick, easy solution to your lascannon woes. Alternatively you could take the drill and hobby knife to it and get creative with some battle damage. Alternatively you could take the drill and hobby knife to it and get creative with some battle damage. That's partially the plan, in maybe adding some battle-damage as my Vanquishers currentky all look clean and smart, so it'd make a nice change in painting too. I'll still add some new nozzles on though, might try the tubing method, or cannobalise some from a Storm Talon's bitz. Brother Cambrius
Hello again all, I'm happy to report on some good progress on repairing and reclaiming the Dreadnought for the ETL! Plenty of mould lines were there to be shaven down and smoothed, plus what you see below. I had some spare Lascannons from my Storm Talon bitz, so I cut off the remnants of the nozzles on the Dreadnought, smoothing it down before clipping off the new nozzles and adding them on, they're a tiny bit longer than normal, but look to do the trick very well: I also added on a new kneepad to replace the missing one, only all I had were left pads, which have the notches for the piping underneath, so I carved a smooth edge off the inner part so it fitted in well. Some extra bitz have been added as well to give the Dreadnought more of a characterful and unique look, which'll be added with some lore and backstory on this ancient warrior of the Vanquishers chapter. The chapter do not use a lot of ornate and outlandish decorations on their armour, due to being Urban Warfare specialists and thus, they find such additions to hinder them in combat in the cramped environments of urban warfare. So instead I added some small additions here and there, including a small honour shield marking this Dreadnought's previous experience in the 1st "Praetorian" Company, plus the ornament on top marking his previous tenure as a Captain. All that's left now is painting, wish me luck! To get an idea of the colour scheme (as I've never done a Dreadnought for my Vanquishers) here's their heraldry on the current Captain of the Fourth "Resilient" Company, Elias Draeg: And that's all, now to break out the brushes! Brother Cambrius
Well, a few more days have passed as we canter through the month of June and some more progress is msde, this time by putting down the basecoat of the colour scheme of the Vanquishers onto the Dreadnought: Hopefully I'll have a bit more detail work done on him tonight, but I'm really happy with how smooth the purple came out with the basecoat after the rather rough base spray that was on the miniature. As always, any C+Cs are welcome! Brother Cambrius
More progress to report once again, now with a little more colour as the blocking out of the major areas of the Dreadnought have been completed: I'll be starting to add washes next onto the Dreadnought before starting to add the fine details and drybrushing. I might even go for some weathering/battle damage, which is something I haven't done previously for my Vanquisher's army, as they're always been clean in appearance in a change from the gritty norm of this current era. As always, any C & Cs/suggestions are welcome. I'll hopefully have this model finished by the week's end. :) Cambrius Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281092-operation-reclamation-26th-dec-rt-rhino/#findComment-5104578 Share on other sites
Brother Cambrius
Much time has past and more has been done in restoring this Dreadnought back to a worthy appearance for the ETL!First was a good bath of Badab Black, Nuln Oil on the metal areas to help add some depth and then it was left for a little while as other duties in life took over: And then today on one of my first full days off in a while with no distractions (the World Cup was a nice background noise) further washes and highlighting were completed over the past few hours: Not much left to do now, just further detailing and some minor metallic drybrushing to weather the flamer and exhausts in full. Looking back up from where this Dreaddy started, I'm feeling pretty good about how it's gone. Just need to think of a story and name to this character now, as I often do for my armies...Cambrius Edited July 3, 2018 by Brother Cambrius Dosjetka 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281092-operation-reclamation-26th-dec-rt-rhino/#findComment-5116963 Share on other sites
Brother Cambrius
Alright then, time to return with a new reclamation to complete, this time on the Boxing Day Challenge with something very, very old school. Here's the vow I made: I, Brother Cambrius, accept The Boxing Day Challange and vow to Build, Paint, and Base a Rogue Trader Legio Rhino for the honour of the + LIBER ASTARTES + within the 24hrs time limit. I've had this model in my pile of bitz for 7 years ish form a friend's old set of minis in the 90s. About time it got some paint and rocking the colours of the Legio Bolter and Chainsword. It's got a lot of damage on the model, including a giant hole in the rear armour, I'm debating keeping it for battle damage. Wish me luck Brothers and Sisters!
