Flint13
Evening guys! Ok, I won't lie. I was going to have a bit more stuff posted up a lot sooner... but you know how the real life stuff goes. So to make up for it here's the newest member of my Nightlords' command squad! http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA100011_zps149cec85.jpg Like him? Bringing death to the Emperor's lackeys in style!... Oh wait... let me zoom that out a bit for you... http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA100013_zps50471014.jpg Introducing the primary support gunship of my legion: The Noctis Nix http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA100014_zpsbb458fb3.jpg Not *quite* thirteen barrels of hell... but we're gettin' there... Check out the business end of these puppies! http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA100017_zps9ca93d1a.jpg Obviously still working on it quite a bit. There is *A LOT* of gap filling and general maintenance to be done, but it isn't the nightmare to assemble I had been lead to believe by internet wisdoms. I'll probably be fiddling with it for a week or so yet before paint goes on. I'm such a painting procrastinator And a cockpit close up! http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA100018_zps13ebee29.jpg Fun fact. Exactly all 7 Aquilas on this bird have the old Talos Valcoran treatmet The cockpit isn't glued down yet, so I can get in there to paint up the techmarine and his equipment. Prolly why it looks a little caddywhumpus. I'm also working with some Tamiya clear red. I really want to get a good shade to replicate the canopy of a Storm Eagle in Massacre. Supposedly painted in the caked gore of slain enemies, it may not have been great for navigation or general seeing out of... but damn did it send a message! Even though no one except me will ever know, my techmarine pilot and the two turret gunners each have Nightlords MKIV pads http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA100019_zpsd8455b7a.jpg *whew* Wait... are the techmarines hands supposed to assemble like that?... Chronotonic
well that ride just seems like a fitti... why is the techmarine playing with his joystick Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282556-savage-midnight-armored-up-an-rolling-heavy-for-etl-pg109/page/3/#findComment-3518704 Share on other sites
The_Chaplain
Flint, I gotta ask, Humbrol Clear Red or Tamiya Clear Red for the cockpit? If it's humbrol, how are you thinning it? I want to do the same treatment for my raven, but it just comes out either gummy or murky! God the fire raptor is such a gorgeous model. I definitely have to get one eventually; it's a sexy beast of a machine. Flint13
@Capitano - I don't know! He just went together like that. As near as I can tell, that's how he's supposed to look. As for the first part, I can't tell if that is a compliment or not, so I'm going to choose to take it as one. @Chaplain - I'm using Tamiya. So far, it has worked *WAY* better than the humbrol I played around with for awhile. I'll agree, the Humbrol does get a bit murky or "fuzzy" in places and I could never get it to apply evenly. By contrast, the Tamiya goes on super smooth, and I swear it evens itself out over the applied surface. I just got the bigger container of Clear red and split it into two... half for glass and canopies, half to darken down with Badab black for blood effects and yes, I agree 100%, It was a bit expensive, but the Fireraptor is the *BUSINESS.* Pawn a kid or girlfriend or something, since everyone on here is probably already out of organs to sell to finance more Forgeworld... The_Chaplain
Cool, I'll have to pick up some Tamiya then and just save my humbrol for stuff like gems and camera lenses. Haha, I don't know about your pawning idea- but I know what you mean. Balthamal
How did you find it assembly wise? I know you said it was easier than you expected but was hoping for some details since the second my Xmas bonus clears I'll pay able to pay FW properly instead of with harvested kidneys or orphans... Flint13
Hi Balth! Hmm... how can I quantify it? It's harder than a dark eldar ravager, but easier than an old metal dreadnaught? Haha, in seriousness, it looks like FW has learned something from the Storm Eagle kit (which is where I had heard all the assembly nightmares.) The only real problem I had with it was assembling the center fuselage and the small support wings on the top. Since the body is so long, the resin bits tend to be *just* a tad warped, so they have a bit of trouble meeting up with the support wings just behind the cockpit. I would just recommend pinning the four parts of the center structure (both "walls," the floor and ceiling) which cleared up pretty much the only annoyance I had with it. It isn't bad though. If you've put together a land raider successfully before, this won't give you myriad problems. Balthamal
If it's easier than the old metal dreadnought I'll have one nailed in an hour flat lol. That thing was brutal to try and get to stay together. I think pinning on the large FW models is a must these days, I've even done it on a contemptor dread just to provide some extra stability. Grrr hurry up Christmas I want to splurge some money... Flint13
Morning folks! Today I have another of the centurion HQ variants for your perusal. To make sure the Noctic Nix stays in flying/working order, the Nightlords of Saeva Nocte have a brand new Forgelord http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA170009_zpsa6020287.jpg BAM! This one I tried to keep modifications kinda minimal on. Just enough so you can tell what legion he hails from. With the super close ties techmarines have to Mars, I always see them as venerating the Omnissiah first, their primarch second. Plus I found a use for one of those 10 SoH heads I have lying around! http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA170012_zpsa828c475.jpg http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA170011_zps9f53a206.jpg aaaand... I just realised there's still a Khorne symbol on one of those skulls http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA170010_zps3c599f11.jpg Anywho, let the constructive criticism commence! hushrong
The Night Lords are looking great and so does their new ride! I'm psyching myself up to build a storm eagle and I am also glad to see the tamiya clear work well for coloring the cockpit canopy. That red will make perfect gore for your NL too. Flint13
@Hushrong and Knight - Thanks guys! Always appreciate the positive responses. Ok, I won't lie, my dark eldar occasionally steal my attention for far too long in between my rounds of fascination with the midnight clad. But! Back to work for me. Here's the next in my line of centurian upgrades for the general command squad of the 28th of the 8th; Primus Medicae! http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA290013_zpsf2ec4a72.jpg I tried for a "running to grab the geneseed pose." How'd I do? http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA290014_zps1ce25b97.jpg He has numerous extra body parts adoring his armor, you know, just in case a fallen brother needs a new one ^_^ http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA290016_zps7f2383e3.jpg I really like all the extra little equipment and stuff that comes on the SoH torso and legs. The wealth of extra ammo, grenades and little pouches are pretty cool. And his last angle! http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA290015_zps1a1f2e88.jpg As always, feel free to let loose with some constructive criticism. Believe it or not, I actually have my Sevataetor primed and undergoing some paint, so I'll hopefully have him up in a day or two. Thanks again! Flint13
@Kol & Death - Thanks a lot for the positive responses guys. Always helps to know I'm on the right track. Alright. Painting happened. I locked myself in my little office with Panic!'s new cd, some sushi for sustenance and a foam roller to work out my stiff neck and spine. Six hours later, I emerged having painted what is hopefully the mini-center piece of my "new" Nightlords legion. "//::*vxrcrd**++(LOG)-L8C28U1"StrmCrw":++Begin++ *Abrupt Exhalation*(Interpreted as dismissal) --" ...and they shall know no fear. One of (++REDACTED: Ref - Inappropriate form of Address. Edit++) Uncle {sic} Gulliman's most interesting opinions. Tell me, remembrancer, I know there are many who would call themselves artists among your kind. Could one of you claim to be a master sculptor having never set chisel to stone, a master illustrator having never known brush or canvas? We of the Eighth, we know fear... thousands of fears. We study each in great detail, as it is torn howling from the throat of our enemies." ++End++ The Product of my Labors http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA300009_zpsd7151ea9.jpg Same one eyed skull as all my other legionaries. Glad to see it works out painted. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA300010_zps6554a586.jpg Hmm... interesting contrast in this new camera of mine... at least it gives a good look at the oath papers. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA300013_zps0730e890.jpg Oath two, and no Nightlord is complete without lightning! http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PA300014_zpsef956a4c.jpg Let me know what you folks think, and what can be done to improve him. Brother Heinrich
Way to go Flint! Good start and really promising for things to come! If anything I would add one maybe two more lighting areas, possibly on the leg or chest plate, but as always, less is more when it comes to details like that. Your blue is good, definitely fits within the spectrum of "midnight blue" without crossing into Ultramarine or Crimson Fist territory. I would also try to highlight the center of the eyes with a bright red color, just to make them really pop. Let me know if you need any detailed pointers on anything painting-wise, but it seems like you're already off to a strong start, keep it up! hushrong
The new medic is looking good, and quite worrisome. If I was injured and saw him running to me I would try to walk it off QUICK! One little thing though, don't forgot to clean the mould lines on his horns before painting. It's also good to see some paint! He's going to do some slaughtering on the table and look good while doing so! Flint13
Hi again folks! @ Death and Helter - Thanks guys! Never get tired of hearing good things. @ Heinrich - Absolutely, and thanks for the help so far! I'm getting (slowly) better model by model. @ forte - Praise from a Wolf? Hah! Made my day. @ Dark Rage - Thanks man! I won't lie, your Consecrators look the business. I may be stealing a few ideas from that sweet Nephilim to put to use on my next vehicle painting project... @ hushrong - Thanks, that's the idea! I'm hoping my command squad will much rather make their Feel No Pain 5+'s than risk my Medicae's attentions. How are your Emperor's Children Cult coming along? Very wickedly bladey the last time I checked. @ Balthamal - Glad to hear it. It is honestly the first mini I've painted in my "new" (read: with actual highlights) pre-heresy NL color scheme. And the hand? Like I said... spare parts in case a fallen brother needs a new one. Unfortunately though... if you aren't a lefty, you might be out of luck... Alright, I admit, I made a bit of an error a page or so ago... I thought that Fire Raptors still had a transport capacity. Silly me, they do not. Well I can't have my command squad just doodling around all not in assault. That's not Nightlordy at all! Thus... meet my command squad's new ride: The Venator Domino, Storm Eagle of the 28th Company's Air Superiority. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PB020009_zpsa504502a.jpg And a side shot! Note there are exactly five aquilas on this bird that *will* be getting the Talos Valcoran treatment. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PB020010_zps26e0e0d3.jpg And a sassy angle! http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PB020013_zpsc1333ffd.jpg And here's my praetor for a size comparo. And honestly I'm a bit chuffed (did I use that right? If a European gent could slang check that for me...) at how well he turned out, so I'll shoehorn him in a few more pics yet ^_^ http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PB020015_zps6585b708.jpg Stubby little dorsal fin http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PB020014_zps04af6200.jpg Here's a side by side with her sister ship, the Noctis Nix http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PB020016_zpsf961e7a6.jpg And a nose to nose. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/PB020017_zps2a25b374.jpg Let me know what you guys think!
