It's a chubby alright.

Oh Flint13. You said "praise from a Wolf". I have other sides too. You'll find it a little more colourful and shall we say, eye opening these days. Give my wip thread a quick glance and you'll see what I mean ;)

The new flier looks good , especially with the Chapterhouse kit on it.  I hate to point this out but is one missile pod sticking out further than the other under the wings?

Yep, I noticed that too.

"Chubby" looks good, really like those over the top missile pods on it!

Crap! I fiddled around for half an hour trying to get those things straight wallbash.gif

And for the record, that is the majestic Storm Eagle Venator Domino!... not "chubby."

Edit: **Just fixed the rocket pods. Then realized one lascannon is a billionth of an inch longer than the other three. *sigh**

Just one of those moments in this hobby that make you want to scream, but non-hobbiers think is "no big deal".  You have my sympathies.

Haha, tell me about it Chaplain. And the truth is, I never would find half of these little mistakes if I hadn't been taking pics to put them up here.

In other news, I am on a hobby *roll* today.

Let me know how I did with my first real attempt at painting white!

That is a truly outstanding model. Everything is pretty much spot on even down to the glass effect on the vials (what did you use for that btw?) and the little quote is downright vicious.

And yes "Chuffed" is the right term :D

@Balthamal - Thanks! He's kind a blend of several techniques I tried seriously for the first time. I think I may go back and try to redo his white parts (atleast the helmet and shoulder pad.) with some tips from Forte.

The glass is killer simple thou, pretty much a bigger version of the "recipe" for space marine eye lenses... but honestly I pilfered it a bit from a gentleman on the Dark City DE forum for painting Talos and Haemonculus drug dispensers sweat.gif

1.) Base color

2.) Thin strip of highlight

3.) White dot to simulate a reflection

4.) Coat with gloss varnish

Also, glad to know I got English slang right on my first try. I feel practically multilingual!

@Noctus - Good point! I'm thinking from right shoulder across the chest plate down to the fauld on his left hip. Sound decent?

looking good :tu:

the chest is a perfect place for some lightning bolts, without them it looks kinda blank...

one more nitpick, i think the white looks too clean and might look better with some grime (weathering)

keep up the good work!

Looking good there Flint. Thought the paint was a bit thick on the shoulder but a closer look seems to be rough plastic.

Now I know what you're doing the white on. I recommend not going too far with the actual white in the mix and saving it just for extreme highlights on the top edges.

Have to admit I like how dark your blue is.

Wow, thanks guys! It's nice to always have something good waiting for me whenever I log back in.

No new paint today I'm afraid, but the Venator Domino (not the chubby) is primed and ready for paint when I get home tmrw.

@Wicced - I'm hard at work putting some of Forte's sweet White Painting tips to use. As for lightning, I'm thinking of trying out something across his helmet in black as well. Maybe a black highlighted with gray instead of blue highlighted white. Thoughts?

@Forte - Thanks again! His right shoulder is indeed kinda rough. It's a Sons of Horus (as a lot of my command squad is based on Catalan Reavers) pad I had to scrape clean. Looks like it isn't as smooth as I thought it was.

@DeathSpectre - Always glad to see you around! You've got so many awesome marines here on B&C, I can't even start to know where to compliment.

@ Balthamal - A secret between you and I? I'm hella lazy, so simple yet effective is my gameplan from here on in. I blame painting 70 dark eldar.

@ Knight of the Raven - My thoughts exactly. Where do you think all his spare parts come from? happy.png

Thanks again for all the awesome feedback, and I always appreciate the helpful tips. I know I'm no Heinrich or DarkVen (or Dan, or Doghouse, or...) , but I'm working my way there slowly!

i'm not a fan of the lightning on the helmet idea.

doing it black and lighter would contrast the normal scheme to much in my opinion.

To break up the white, you could try a bloody handprint (from an unwilling patient ) or just some splashes of blood.

Oh, that's a good idea. I *know* I have seen a couple of awesome bloody handprints. I am remembering one on a Pre-heresy World Eater...

If anyone could rustle up an example or a tiny tute, I would be *hella* grateful.

@Tanith - Thanks! But it's not a trophy... it's a spare he got from the Nostraman organ donor program devil.gif

Alright guys, I couldn't resist getting back and working a bit on a few of the things I wanted to try. Here's my second attempt at blood splatter and highlighting up from white (with 50% more contrast!)

1.) Started with Astronomicon Gray

2.) Badab black in the creases

3.) Highlight White Scar

Also a bit of lightning so I don't have to worry about Wicced murder-dueling me when I'm not looking.

Here are a few more with a slightly different contrast.

Thoughts?

**EDIT:** WOO! 5k views! and a HOT tag ^_^

A quick question. Are you using white straight out of the pot? I've found that white works best when mixed a little with either a very light grey or very light blue; helps to smooth out the coat.

Just a suggestion. Keep it up, man. You're doing great so far.
