Care to share the recipe for the red on the helm of the fist with a lowly peasant? :biggrin.:  The fist is absolutely astonishing by the way! I was waning on my drive to create a Fist legion force but your piece has truly wrung out to me! Keep up the excellent work.

Thanks DimDim!

I did the red the same way as I do it for my Blood Angels. I did a tutorial on it using a drop pod door - the principle is the same, I just sprayed each primer from above then the final base coat all over. Oh and a little edge highlight of Vallejo Model Color 130 Aramantha Red.

Great looking Blood Angels, with the new codex due next week I am wanting to bring mine out of retirement and love you dark red scheme. You said in the tutorial the airbrush yellow onto certain areas before applying the red. Do you have a photo of this stage as an example?  Thanks

Thanks both!

@ Leman Russ SW, I did a tutorial on my blog (here: http://www.themightybrush.com/?p=336). Shown on a drop pod door but the principle is the same for infantry - whole model black, red from above, yellow on helmet, shoulder pads etc.

@ Nixon_DX, thanks, that is pretty much exactly what I'm going for :)

@ Cyrox, really? They never told me, but then they probably don't have time to contact everyone they feature (especially at this time of year!). Thanks for letting me know, I will have to pick up a copy! As for Tycho, steal away!

Must admit I double taked when I saw it mate! The picture does it justice though

Cheers Candleshoes! I don't normally get the weekly one since you can't subscribe and my nearest GW is a half hour drive, but I've now coughed up the postage for this issue :D

At Landrick the bases are resin (I'm far too lazy to stick that many bits on them manually). They're from Dragon Forge, excellent quality, highly recommended! http://www.dragonforge.com

Wow, your miniatures are unbelievably insanely great!!

I did a triple check, because I honestly thought this was Eggroll's work, you are definitely at his level....

That Mephiston is cracking too, can't waitto see it painted.

The DC kneeling, I could swear I have seen hom before, was he a GD entry or been in a magazine or dakka? Absolutely awesome.

Did you use a tutorial for magnetising with the coins? I am still struggling to envision it, but wondering if this technique would lend itself well to nagnetising my Raptor wings which snapped off after a fall, or good for Knights?

Thanks dantay!

Praise indeed to be compared to Eggroll, his Blood Angels have been a huge inspiration to me, along with Raffa from Massive Voodoo.

Meph is on the painting table as we speak, but I'll be taking my time over that one

The kneeling marine is indeed a shameless copy from a GD entry I saw in Warhammer Visions (alas, I cannot remember the painter's name!) I've got loads of other ideas for those kneeling legs...

A fried of mine gave me the idea for magnetising the Stormraven with the coins. I'm not sure if he followed a tutorial, but the basic principle is to wedge a stack of coins into the air intake using a big blob of green stuff, and stick a wide diameter magnet on the top of the hull where the air intake meets the hull. The weight and strength of the join holds the wings in place which are sandwiched between. Bear in mind though it adds a lot of weight, so you need to consider the position of the base stem to balance the model.

Please don't get me wrong, I think it is an absolutely stunning paint job-- but I think the red robes and cloak are a bit too much. Have you considered an alternate color like a brown leather or a black? Just my two cents though. Can I ask for the recipe of the red you used on the armor?

Thanks for the feedback Chaplain, you're not the first one to mention the red on red! For inspiration I was looking at the following artwork:

and

So quite limited colour palette as you can see. One person did suggest a different colour for the inside of the cloak (which you'd see mostly from the back where it flaps over in the corner) and I think that could work. I would probably go black rather than add another colour like brown to maintain the limited palette.

I've noted down the process for the red armour on my blog here
