Liking the overall paintjob but I also think there's too much unadorned red. Perhaps some freehand design work on the cloak would break up the large areas.

I think I will go back and paint the underside of the cloak black to break it up on the back view in particular. From the front I think the gold elements, the blue on the weapons, the silver and rope provide enough contrast. I do want to stay true to the simplicity of the reference artwork.

@ deathspecter, I thought the chain axes looked suitably badass for the look I'm going for with my death company. They will proxy as chainswords or power axes.

And now for some paint! Early stages but made headway with the MKI Baal Pred; Death Company got base coated and, in light of the new codex troops / elites changes, so did some scouts ;)

Oh my goodness, that Baal is gorgeous.  Can't say I recognize the assault cannons you used, where are those bits from?

Cheers Chaplain! Much work still to do but I'm happy with how it's coming together so far. The assault cannons are from here. I just chopped them off the turret assembly which is for a Razorback. Very good quality sculpt and cast, I would definitely recommend them.

looking great!! love the Baal pred so far. Was gutted when assault marines became fast but it runs them bk in line with the normal marines. There's always unbound too ;-)

I have to use mine outside for now. Which for now means, at the mercy of the weather for when I can use it.

I've been dying to learn how to use an airbrush for years.  My first attempt was with that crap hand flamer set they put out a few years back.  I used it for maybe 15 seconds and it was ruined.

I tried out that flamer thing but didn't get on very well with it. It's a spray gun rather than an airbrush which is a different tool. Dual-action gravity-fed airbrushes are best, with roughly a 0.2mm nozzle/needle for detail work. I've got a Harder & Steenbeck Infinity for detail and a Badger Patriot for priming, varnishing etc.

Holy the DC and the Baal Predator are beautiful. The "ugly" Deimos pattern is really growing on me. Strangely only with a turret, I still don#t like the Rhinos. Did you have to kitbash the Baal?

 

The DC are made up from FW parts, right?
