Barabbas Sogalon
"There are neither Truth nor Gods in this galaxy. Death... death is all there is" - Trabakhal Gurthor Moritat Gurthor The phrase “No one likes Gurthor” is common among the legionaries of the 8th Battalion, and for good reason. If there is one warrior who truly represents the darker part of the Barbarusan soul then it is Trabakhal Gurthor, Moritat and master of the Destroyer Company. Even during Mortarion’s war on Barbarus it was something about the young man in crude iron armour that made others wary of him, but none were able to explain why. Over a century later this is still the case, and those in his presence often speak of a faint cold that is never really there. Gurthor is a heartless killer caring only for the destruction of his enemies and watching them succumb to the most horrible weapons imaginable. He is the self-declared Black Hand of Death and Bringer of Living Hell, the very purpose of the Death Guard incarnate; others label him a psychopath and an outcast. Despised by everyone, he hates them all in return. The only respect seems to come from the dying legionaries he leads in battle. His superstition and deep trust in the ancient traditions of Barbarus are both infamous, especially the frequent use of two inscribed dices made from human bone in matters of great importance. The same goes for the fact that he speaks almost exclusively in the native Barbarusan tongue, only switching to Low Gothic when absolutely necessary. But the 8th Battalion would not be as successful without Gurthor and his willingness to unleash the horrors of phosphex, rad and bio-alchem weaponry on those marked as enemies by Commander Sogalon. For who could perform this duty better than one completely stripped of conscience? The Moritat is believed to be the oldest XIV Legion Destroyer still alive and his body carry countless marks from his dark craft; the most visible being the left side of his face that has been ruined by phosphex. He attributes his continued survival to the pair of dices, saying it’s their will. Gurthor is among those not sent to the surface of Istvaan III, more because of his skill at killing than his charming personality, and witnesses how most of the Battalion is betrayed by those loyal to the Warmaster. Filled with rage he makes a fateful choice, interestingly without the dices, and decides that his loyalty lies with the legionaries he fought with through years of exile. He then executes Lodge Speaker Nikoman with a plasma bolt to the head, before sending the Destroyers to purge all of the traitor’s followers aboard the flagship. The following slaughter can only be described as a chaotic civil war between Barbarusans. Pyromancer
Nice! I like how plain and regular he looks, something befitting one of his stature inside of his legion! Not to say that the paintjob or the modelling looks plain, of course, just that he has very little bling to him, and his paintjob is very subtle, without the need for flourishes and extravagances. Barabbas Sogalon
Thanks a lot, brothers! @ deathspectersgt7: That's what I was aiming for. "No one likes Gurthor". @ Pyromancer: This is one of the reasons why I like the Death Guard, functionality before bling. A load of gold and complex detailing doesn't make you a better officer, leave that to the pretty legions. I also want to show the split between Barbarusans and Terrans in the army with the latter having more aquilas and such.

'scuse me ;p Gurthor looks "wonderful", as expected of one of Mortarion's children. Might use some cues to help me form my own Moritat in the future. What's next on the list? Barabbas Sogalon
Thanks! Next is an Apothecary assigned to the shock troops and trench fighters, and he'll be a lot more sane than the previous addition. After that I'm not sure. It's a choice between the shock troops of 3rd squad, Eradicators, Cremator Guard or the Contemptor I've had lying around since Christmas.

Barabbas Sogalon
Well, it's been a while since I painted something else than infantry so it would be nice with a little change. And I do have some interesting background planned for the one occupying the Contemptor. The only problem is that I'm going to my home town for the summer and safe transportation might be an issue. If I find a way you can expect to see Old Tamhais at some point. Perhaps a few Boruzian Jaegers as well. Argent aquila 1 Back to top
Barabbas Sogalon
Apothecary 3rd Class Sedefkar Balik Sedefkar is a veteran Apothecary in the 1st Company who serves with 3rd squad Charon, led by the violent Simeon Kruik. He was recruited to the 8th Battalion’s Apothecarion during the bloody Cleansing of Karos where many of its members fell and regular legionaries had to replace them at the frontlines, receiving only some very basic training and a narthecium before being sent into the meat grinder. His past as a dedicated trench fighter made him the obvious choice to accompany squad Charon, the fiercest shock troops and close-combat specialists in the Battalion who are known to lead frontal assaults with sky high casualty rates. It is amidst this chaos, from blood filled trenches to a corpse littered breach, that Sedefkar works his trade with the grim determination shown by those of Barbarusan stock. Because of his duty in collecting the geneseed of the many fallen, other legionaries call him the Harvester of Souls after a figure from the ancient myths of Barbarus. Outside the battlefield he has often been present at the savage duels in the pits where sergeant Kruik always emerge victorious. Sedefkar was awarded with the Scythes by Mortarion for his bravery at the Siege of Yonsok, the last battle before the 8th Battalion was exiled from the rest of the Legion. Not only did he risk his own life to protect the legacy of his brothers, but killed several enemy warriors with the chainsaw and drill on the narthecium after losing his kukri in the melee. He is sent to Istvaan III alongside Charon, as anything else would raise suspicion, and towards the end of the fighting he and Primus Medicae Sarpaten are the only Apothecaries left in the Battalion. Barabbas Sogalon
No big update, just a little status report. Sadly I haven't been able to do any painting the past month because of some real life issues and won't have the time until late august. That's life. BUT the writing side of things have been very active and I'll have something ready in not too many days. All I can say is that it will involve Terran marines and that crazy fellow from the Bleeding Twins. Flint13 and recon0321 2 Back to top
Barabbas Sogalon
A few chaotic weeks up here, so the written word has been delayed. In the meantime I have some pictures of what is currently inhabiting my desk 1st Huntsman (Vigilator) Rikar Arov of the 8th Battalion. The beginnings of my version of Crysos Morturg. I doubt he'll be finished in the near future. Flint13, Daemon2027 and Olis 3 Back to top

Olis
The beginnings of my version of Crysos Morturg. I doubt he'll be finished in the near future. I expect to be wowed, brother. A little touch here, a small kitbash there. Hopefully what you'll give us will be suitably tasty, after all, Crysos is my favourite character from the FW HH books. ^_^
Barabbas Sogalon
@ deathspectersgt7: Yeah, it's been a while. It feels good to be back in business. @ Flint13: I love mk II armour and the vox head looked perfect for a sniper and lone hunter. Besides, Arov is an old Terran and I wanted a more ancient look to him that I feel you don't get with pure mk IV. @ Olisredan: Crysos Morturg is my favourite as well, so I'll do my best to bring him to life.
