Heresy Era Death Guard & Mechanicum Small update + fix

Recommended Posts

Well hopefullt you are up to date now.

I am actually very please with him so far, just unsure how to do the cape in a good way.

Hopefully I will have the interior of the main body done this weekend, it all depends on school, but hopefully. :)

I lost because of the last 3 dice.

Failed a 3 inch charge thanks to snake eyes, and then the round continued because of a 1, and my contemptor got blasted to bits.

So far I can say that I am not going to use a Vindicator and I should change the gear on the Contemptor to a Mortis, but I am not sure if I want to change his arms, or build another one. The Contemptor kit is awesome but a pain to do.

Resurrection!

Way to long since my last update, but that how I am, stupid phases …

Well time for some actual progress, first out is my Apothecary, which is almost done, but I feel dissatisfied with it, don’t know why, I just feel like that.

And next is the start of my Mechanicum allies/army, and since I am trying to get my girlfriend into the hobby, they had to be blue, looks really of (Mechanicum is red, period xD ) but I got no choice.

What do you guys think of it?

And does marines have to be on 32mm bases? I haven’t played in a while so I am not up to date on the rules.

Resurrected yes, but given that I've not seen this before its a fantastic surprise on a break at work! Lovely work thought this thread.

Apoc is really good. I guess white on off white looks a bit odd at first but I think it works! Really tidy and great weatherin as ever!

I'm sure you can fluff a distant mechanicum held world with a blue theme!!

Thanks for your kind words, hope you found it enjoyable.

Thanks, for me it is not the white on white, it is the weathering. For me it just look wrong.

Yeah I guess, but I suck at fluff. How 'bout, "They liked plasma weapons really much, and was low on red paint, so blue was the obvious choice" ? xD

Since you are the master of weathering and I am but a humble student in the ways, please feel free to shoot me down - could it possibly be that the apothecary is ...

... 'too' rusty?

granted, he will look much more cohesive when finished, but in my mind the apothecary should be very bloody, but not necessarily corroded. I tried to keep my DG Primus Medicae, Sadira, realtively clean bar from blood - the reasoning being that an apothecary might spend more time than most marines away from the thickest fighting collecting geneseed etc. But on the flip side, I guess an apoc would be a priority target for the enemy (assuming they have no honour).

Might just be a wait and see mini

I see what you are saying, the thing is my guys are rusty, but you could be on to something, I think the problem is the yellow filter on the baselayer.

But I will see if I can do something about it, maybe make it a little bit more light on the rust.

Yeah I saw your Primus, awesome model, the thing is I am a little bit scared of adding the blood, I want lots of it, but I don't want it to look like I just dropped the model in clear-red so to say, I want it to look realistic, got any tips?

I think it is going to be like that, just do something and see what the end result will be like. xD

A little late night update, so excuse the quality of the photo.

This is more or less how my Thallax will look, just metal instead of black, and a more intense red, I think I wont go so heavy on the weathering for these.

Should I have glossy panels armour?

Another update, excuse the picture quality bad lighting.

The Thallax is almost done, just considering if I should paint the visor and the "reactor" at the back. I was thinking orange since I love the color but I am afraid that it will look out of place with the blue and red, what do you guys think? The blue is more blue and not purple

I cleaned up my Apothecary, and it looks better now, just need to add the blood, rather nevous actually ... xD

And lastly I just have to show off my new brushes, I really like them, and they are pretty and the "Dual wield" is very good for my pigment work.

I followed this guide - if you scroll down its the section on using Tamiya clear red X-27 and black

http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.co.uk/2010/05/tutorial-how-to-paint-blood.html

I started very carefully on areas that were guaranteed to have fresh blood - needles, hands and a bit of spatter on the loincloth. Then I added more purple and browns into the mix and did spatter where blood may have had a chance to dry using a tiny piece of sponge. I was quite careful, i think its easy to go overboard with blood

I know about the X-27, awesome paint, my problems it the patterns and how to make it look sensible. Can't remeber his name but there is a guy here (or at least on ammobunker) that paints awesome blood covered HH World Eaters, and he informed me about it first.

Yeah, I was thinking:

Needle, nather-thing chainsword, right hand and tabard = fresh blood

Tabard, Chainsword, hands, little on cheast and legs = more dried

Does that sound good?

On demands from other people the robe has now been weathered.

Since the picture I have added some "oil" and made streaks of oil and grime to make it look like he wiped his hands on the cloth.

And lastly me Thallax, which in my opinion is done except the back core, lens and power cable.

Done! Except shoulderguard. And Sorry about the tripple post, but we all know how my updates go. xD

I hope I didn't go overboard with the blod but I think it looks alright atleast.

@ caprera

Thank you, it means alot, because weathering is all I got. But I still want to improve, which I would say I have from my first 10 Marines to my Medicae. :)

@ Chaeron

I will try my best to paint them as fast as I can, but school is killing me right now, so that sucks ...

So update on my two tanks, the Grave Wardens are on hold until the tanks get to the washing stage, I want to do all the washes and pigments at the same time.

So they went from this (sorry for the bad picture had to make an emergency photo)

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee101/packe93/Death%20Guard/WP_20150530_21_45_44_Pro1_zpshsirqi2v.jpg

To this! One thing, varnish the "rust layer" because otherwise the paint will smear and loose (?) it's color, as you can se the orange is not as orange.

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee101/packe93/Death%20Guard/IMG_8490_zpsjxxqaevf.jpg

I also wanted the Venerator to be less damaged than the Spartan since the Spartan is an assault tank and the Venerator is a more long range support it seemed more fitting.

C&C Welcome

Current status on the tanks.

Long way to go though.

I probably wont be able to make any big progress until the weekend, but hey, I am painting "fast" for being me.

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee101/packe93/Death%20Guard/IMG_8492_zpstzmau20q.jpg

And on a different note, I have and old Stormblade (old Banelbade chassi) and I am torn between painting it DG or my Super Heavy IG (no not AM, IG) colors.

I want to paint it DG since I am also exclusivly playing 30k, and my reaver is going to be 30k so it "fits" better".

But I want to paint it as IG since I already have some Super Heavies that I can't paint as DG.

So what do you think?

Very sweet, love the rust work - coming along nicely!

Apologies if you have answered this before, but how did you scrape the layer of white off to reveal the undercoated rusting?

Also, how did you manage the tone of your metal tracks / guns etc please?

Thank you!

I believe that I have mentioned it before, but I can say it again.

I use AK Heavy Chipping Fluid (Vallejo/MIG/ Harispray should give the same result) and the reason why it comes loose in such big chunks is because I use Vallejo Surface Primer as my White, if you use a normal white it will come of similar to how it looks in the ramp thingy.

The Metal is just Vallejo Model Color "Gunmetal Grey" airbrushed of black, nothing more.

It's very effectfull, just be carefull with how much you do it, it is easy to overdo it, I think I am borderline with my Spartan.

I know I quite like it, the blue sheen might also be because of the photo though.

Glad I found this thread!  I really like your attention to weathering and the methodical approach you use.  I'll have to pore through this WIP a bit more to get the full flavor of it, but I'm glad to see this project is still going strong!  :happy.:
