Hey, it's what I do. 

 

Glad I found this thread!  I really like your attention to weathering and the methodical approach you use.  I'll have to pore through this WIP a bit more to get the full flavor of it, but I'm glad to see this project is still going strong! 

Glad you liked it, my focus and skill is on the weather, I wont deny that. :)

 

Hope you find something that you like, and my threads don't die, they just hibarante for a few months. xD

 

Why have I never seen this blog?  These are some of he best death guard I have ever seen.  Great job.

Update yey!

 

The big question is, is it to much rust? It is a frontline vehicle though.

 

It is more or less done, if the rust is good, only tracks and mud left.

Looks good to me mate! Its close to ''too much'' but thats purely subjective. And for a Death Guard, frontline vehicle, I think its spot on.

Looks great! How did you do the orange/brown rust stains out of interest?

I felt it was a little bit to much so I tried to tone it down a little, nothing major but a little. It's hard though when you already have the scratches done.

First of they are a little bit more red in real life, still working on the new background and white balance. But it's a mix of MIG, Light, Ochre, Standard and Old Rust Pigments and MIG 502 Light and Dark Rust oil paints.

I think the grey/grey looks best, what do you guys think? (Note that the colours are not representative of the final product ;) )

The weathering on that Spartan is outstanding, the rust tones are really realistic.

Yes it is. Smart weathering technique but I also think it's too much.

 

The rust almost looks like a second camo colour.

The reason the bases look like they do is because my "base paint" dried out ... also I am considering moving from the snow bases to swamp bases since I am not 100% happy with the snow.

 

 This is how I've done my test base, I know there is a Xeno on the top but I hope you can ignore that.

The slight reduction to the weathering does look better actually, and I was a fan before. The Deathshroud look great and I think swamp bases would suit their appearance very well.

My thoughts exactly, I will try to get some example bases done in the next week or so. Also Grave Wardens not Deathshrouds, they are not cool enough to be Deathshrouds ;)

Oh have just stumbled across this. I'm tentivly starting a Heresy Death Guard force, and experimenting with weathering. I think I'll be using this plog as reference. Great work.

Base looks great! Provides a suitable contrast to the white on the whole.

 

It would be good to see another photo, perhaps in a slightly different light, to fully see the mud/water divide?

Actually the swamp marsh base brings out the DG colours better. Even if they are weathered they jump out at you more to say "ooga booga gonna get ya!"

@ Thanks! I am also quite happy with them compared to the time invested, but they are not as good as my Deathshroud IMHO.
