Skrundle87
Thanks for the feedback guys, I've got a few little guys on my desk to paint but I think I've realised there's little enjoyment there for me, I like the big jobs. On that note, anyone have ideas on what my next project should be? I'm thinking a custom heldrake would be nice or I'd like another dreadnight or imperial knight, the latter being costly unfortunately
Skrundle87
So here I am back after, wow almost a year. It's been a busy one. Basically renovated my whole home this year. It's been a challenge but worth it. I won't bore you with the details but I just finished the kitchen and my amazing wife decided I needed to have some fun and relax for a while. She knows little about the hobby other than my fondness for kitbashing and knowing I wanted to make a better Heldrake, so I scored these http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af171/skrundle87/Mobile%20Uploads/C90B7F80-BB2B-4C7F-B229-E352DDCDC660_zpsptivptkc.jpg I plan on smashing these four into two heldrakes
T0MMY
awesome wife you have there! Really looking forward to seeing your heldrake bashes - I really want one but am not keen on the standard kit at all... inspire me!!

Skrundle87
Cheers mate. I have the first rough blu tacked concept down http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af171/skrundle87/Mobile%20Uploads/4C296C43-B01B-4D94-AB46-5A641670FE57_zpsfranhbzn.jpg

Skrundle87
And concept 2 http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af171/skrundle87/Mobile%20Uploads/568F48FF-7579-44C9-A278-3BF70AADADF5_zpssagmyuzv.jpg Now my issues thus far are that the wings on the second need to be raised but the drake body has a fixed back plate so this will require a lot of cutting and such. Unsure on the second head as well. With the first one I think it may need larger wings. Such as the new Bloodthirster. Sadly the black dragon wings are smalle than I anticipated
Skrundle87
Already solved the downward wings issue on the second dragon. Skrundle87
Construction of the Bonedrake is pretty much complete http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af171/skrundle87/Mobile%20Uploads/A7881D7B-FA7A-4CDC-ADDD-A36C2012B0A3_zpskhwvqbhf.jpg http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af171/skrundle87/Mobile%20Uploads/524457B8-47D0-4474-9CDC-F318490F9314_zpstzzvvwdm.jpg
Quixus
Now that is how the Heldrake was supposed to look in the first place.
Skrundle87
First guy basically sorted. Need to suss out a tail and I'm thinking the wings are to small http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af171/skrundle87/Mobile%20Uploads/8C0AB0F3-5BE4-4C6B-845F-DBA525C3EC9E_zpsgkuwye4h.jpg And a shot of the two http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af171/skrundle87/Mobile%20Uploads/64EB66C6-EBD6-4EEC-9CE7-17C7C91450B8_zpsxrbkpbf4.jpg
for_dorn_and_for_de_emprah
Whoa, really cool topic here! My opinion on your job is that the flying guy is very cool, but the second one is to revisit. Try to bring him stand up on his legs and move the wings a bit forward. IMHO.
Skrundle87
Thanks for the input. Very good points I must agree
Dragonlover
Instead of one solid tail on the first one, how about using the mechatendrils as several whippy tails? Dragonlover
T0MMY
You didn't disappoint - these are awesome. I can't decide which one I like best!! Personally I don't worry too much about scale in 40k (you think 10 marines would fit in a rhino?! lol) and the wings on the second guy look fine to me. A tail might balance him out though. I just gotta work out which kits to buy now to make one for myself! Thanks for sharing.
Quixus
I wonder how those two would look if you switched the heads.
KrautScientist
Skrundle, mate, those are fantastic! Personally speaking, I really like the crouching one just as much as the flying one. Please don't make him stand up on his hind legs, as that will just end up looking silly. I also think the heads are fine the way they are. He does need a tail, though, as pointed out by some of the other guys. But wow, quite a return to form! :)
Skrundle87
Thanks for al the kind words and input guys. Currently working on an idea for the second head to slightly change it up vita head swap is unlikely as the crouched one is all daemon engine parts and the flying one has a lot of bone parts. Can't wait to start some proper assembly and green stuff work Going to attempt to lift the walking one up a bit on all fours still though
Mechanist
The Bone one looks really cool, the Mauler is definitely missing something, Have you looked at hive tyrant wings? I think the bulk differences as they stand side by side is also a little ood though GW flyers a definitely under scaled (just compare the hades auto cannons between the two daemon engine kits) so it's like the flying one is just further away I suppose. I won't re link the Farther Ted sketch though.
Skrundle87
Farther ted sketch? I have a personal issue with tyranid parts on other models. I can always tell they are tyranid parts and it bothers me haha. To me it's like putting an eldar helmet on a marine. If I am to change the wings I'd be putting the wings off the new bloodthirster only issue being I cannot be sure if the size is right on those either
Mechanist
I used link to the sketch in my Knight post about and hour before posting posting here. I know what you mean about nid parts especially when scything talons are used, the tyrant wings are on of the few parts I would consider using as long as I changed up the "hand" section and a little filling on the arm. Thurster wings are massive so should do just fine, or if you can get them Archon's stead has some pretty big wings too.
