I tried to match him as close to the Forgeworld Primarchs as possible. So a hair under 5cm from heady to toe.

The face is just about done.

One of my worst painting skills are faces, that why i almost always opt for helmets when I can. What do you guys think? Does it do Icarion and his artwork justice?

Yeah, taking pictures of 28mm scale heads is kind of tricky. Hopefully this one is a bit better:

Hmm I like the new fluff about the youthfulness of the legion as a small Easter egg to what's going on behind the curtains.

On a side note...I didn't know Leman Russ became the Primarch of the Vth legion ;) *coughcoughhe'stheVIthlegioncough*

Ya dang whippersnappers...

Brother Rasemmon sat silently, contemplating the star pattern before him. The ever changing patterns of starlight helped to focus his mind in times of doubt, strain.

Today it did not come easily.

The patterns which once formed images of tranquility and peace, now formed hard outlines of violence and anger.

So focused on the lights was he that Rasemmon never heard another visitor enter the ventral observation blister.

Even blindfolded, and without birth-sight, Rasemmon felt a new harmony envelope the room. Energy changed, and rebalanced surrounding the presence of this visitor.

Rasemmon breathed deeply and began to focus his humors; pushing the phlegmatic to the side and bringing the Melancholic to the fore.

With one final sigh, Rasemmon turned his new-sight upon the visitor opening his minds eye.

A pair of impossible blue eyes greeted him warmly.

"My Lord" he murmured reverently suppressing a wry grin. He had been expecting this conversation.

"How do you fare this morning?" Returned the Visitor, shaping his aura to radiate calm and curiosity.

"Well" Replied the wounded Seeker, flinching at the power the visitors’ subtle aura.

Before Rasemmon, stood a being cut from starlight, measured and formed in the shape of a man. The II Primarch stood resplendent in a shimmering robe adorned with shifting star pattern, a curious echo of the astral vista before both warrior and lord.

As Rasemmon rose from his lotus position, Icarion came around the chamber and took up a position between him and the view portal, the star patterns of his robe blending seamlessly into the background.

"When we found you, you lay prone on the ground before a dead device of Xenos origin. Do you recall what happened?" To look at the words of the question would leave you to believe Icarions' words were cold, and clinically measured. But psychically he imbued the question with an undercurrent of warmth and concern, the subtle shaping of his aura flavoring the spoken words with a radiant inflection of belonging.

Rasemmon gathered his thoughts, and when he was ready began his tale.

"My squad and I were reconing the valley when we came upon the device.” He paused briefly, unsure of how to continue. Icarion’s Aura soothed him with encouragement and he continued.  “We all felt it, like it drew us to it. Duren, an apprentice of the squad suggested we return to the muster, report what we had found."

"You didn't" Icarion responded, it wasn’t a question.

"No, I didn't. Rasemmon paused again, his confidence wavering, but again an aura of encouragement and curiosity gently pressed him to continue. “It felt. It felt as if we were meant to find it, like it wanted to be found."

Icarion said nothing, his Aura became opaque but not before Rasemmon got the distinct impression his lord has already known all of this. In light of that last thought, he continued his tale.

"I reached out to touch the device."

"With your hand?" Icarions’ eyes bore into him with a laserlike focus.

"WIth my mind."

"And?" Icarion asked. Rasemmon expected his lord to radiate annoyance at the delay in his tale, but instead found only another burst of encouragement, from the Primarchs subtle Aura.

"And then suddenly I was elsewhere."

"Elsewhere?" Icarion projected an Aura that conveyed a sense of nonplussed reaction, but again Rasemmon got a gentle feeing that his lord knew everything of which his son spoke.

"It was a realm of shifting vistas and light which bent in upon itself in endless and disconcerting geometry." Rasemmon described, though the words came difficultly to him.

"And what did you see there?" Icarion asked. The words he spoke were cold, but again were projected along with a brief flash of curiosity.

"I saw many things. Through one of these portals I saw a vista of unparalleled beauty, a mountain rising through a sea of clouds. In another, a child playing near stream, full of life and surrounded by a verdant wood. In yet another I saw that same child as a man, aged a hundred years sitting by the same stream, dried up and barren of life and vibrancy."

"Is that all you saw?" Icarions curiosity burned brightly for a shimmering moment being subdued again.

"In the last moment before I lost consciousness from the strain, I saw.."

Rasemmon paused to make sure he indeed wanted to share his concerning vision with his lord. Though his time in the alien realm had been brief, and disorienting. One image he had seen in the shimmering portals stood out from the rest. It was a image that would stay with him until his final breath, and he wished nothing but to leave it unspoken. However, soon as the thought was formed, he dismissed it. Though the image he had seen had been painful and had caused him great duress, surely his father would understand the ridiculousness of it and comfort him with its impossibility.

With that in mind, Rasemmon focused and brought his tale to its conclusion.

"I saw a city in flames. I saw Madrigal burn."

I think you hit the nail on the head mate. And the painting looks good.

From where I'm sitting I think he looks noble, determined and like he knows his fate and is prepared to face it.

And that narrative is spine-chillingly good

The Primarch is shaping up to be spectacular indeed! Excellent painting on the face! That blue/turquoise you have used on his armour is also quite delicious.

I do have one minor quibble about the model, and that is that his...erm crotch area seems strange to me. It's hard to explain, but if you focus on the area where his legs meet, below his belt buckle, that area seems slightly dubious anatomically. It might just be the angle of the picture, admittedly, but maybe it would look more balanced with something added below the belt buckle to divert attention away from that particular area: a short loincloth, armour plate, dangling parchment or what have you.

In any case, though, stellar work! This is officially the II legion for me now -- and has been for quite a while!

++++++++

Not quite finished yet. I still have to attach his swords and bolt pistol but for all intents and purpose I am immensely proud of him.

I still feel a bit light headed. I got to create my own Legion, design my own Primarch, design my own Primarchs' miniature. And, now had the honor of painting him. What hobbyist could ask for anything more.

I have to say that i'm a little surprised by how positive the this boards reaction has been to this project!

If I'm being honest, part of me was afraid that this project wouldn't have a good reception because of the stigma or taboo of the Lost Legions,

Thank you for helping me stay excited about this project.

What stigma? You're doing great... Keep going!

Vanquisher:  There was a stigma about the lost legions.  Conventional wisdom a few years ago was that the Lost Legions were lost and to not go there.  Because there were only 2, many felt that it was only for GW/FW/BL to fill in any information about the lost legions.  In fact, there was a thread on B&C that examined every hint of evidence of the lost legions through GW published media.

I'll even admit that I was incredibly skeptical of Arthawes when he announced his project to make a lost legion force.  Who was this interloper treading on lore that was reserved for GW alone?   But Arthawes blew myself (and I expect everyone's) expectations away.  He has shown respect for the source material in the research he has put in for the Lightning Bearer's timeline, their role, and their eventual fall.  Yet even with those (self imposed) constraints, Arthawes has created a legion that many consider on par with Forge World's best work.

There is a good reason why the Lightning Bearers are considered the First Legion amongst the Lost Legion Brotherhood project. Since his project, Lost Legions concepts have sprung up everywhere. That is the impact Arthawes had on this board.  In fact, many on this forum have stated that they cannot help but to think about the Scions of Madrigal when the lost legions come up in discussion.  Perhaps the highest praise for Arthawes is that there are those on this forum who have accepted his work on the IInd legion as cannon information (even if it will never get GW endorsement).

But the point of the B&C is to inspire and support one another. The feedback he has received has fueled his muse. Not only has Arthawes created a legion, but an entire culture and sub-sector of the Imperium.  A Psi-titan now walks and Madrigal has mortal defenders that could rival the Prospero Spire Guard.  It is my hope that his project continues to march forward.

Please, never stop with this magnificent work!

It is just amazing and inspiring!

I followed this thread for months until I signed in this community. Your work inspired me to do my own version of a Japanese themed chapter and post it here.

I'm excited to see the next update.

All the best. smile.png

Small update follows:

Legion Tactical Squad with extra close combat weapons. I wanted to make use of the beautiful new White scars upgrades which are (seriously) a perfect match for Lightning Bearers.

I always feel like Legionaries look silly running into battle without ammo and proper gear that is why I am now striving to have everything represented on their models. This include, extra ammo, grenades, Sidearm and a ritual Wakisashi. My goal was to add it without making it look cluttered and I think I suceeded, although I'd love to hear your thoughts on representing equipment on a 28mm scale model.

I have also made a bit of progress on the other eight Oni Spectres.

The final update is still extremely WIP.

I really fell in love with Ibrahems take on the Volta Seekers. The truth is, that my original Volta terminators were some of the first models I created for this project and I love them (both model wise and in game) but They have been remodled and repainted over and again and they definitely don't quite match up to the armies current standards. SO I took Ibrahems beautiful concept art as a jumping off point for Volta Seeker 2.0.

In my opinion, the coolest part of the new artwork was the grinning skull mask with the molded-star blind fold. It was ominous and eerie and I knew that I had to model that very carefully.

What do you think?

Edit: And wow, I just noticed that I reached 100 followers.
