The Lost and Forgotten: Building the II Legion

Made some good progress on the Levi. What I have done now is finish the base colors and washed the model. I've also picked out a few details to help me get a better idea of how the conversion plays out visually. I must say I'm rather happy with it so far. Next step will be to finish cleaning up the washed armor plates, and then moving onto the highlighting stage.

It's looking very nice, but who's that fellow lurking in the right-hand corner...?

Two Primarchs are about to fight, wouldn't you stand around and watch.

Who said anything about Two? msn-wink.gif And that's all I'll say on the matter , save that that some eagle-eyed members might be able to catch a few details on the figure which gives him away.

Damn... Can't make out any points which clearifies his identity...but after staring for a while on the pic. What is that fiery scheme on the left between russ and his cloak? Is this just fire or is there really a character hidden? If so....YOU FOX!!!

@nd mr leviathan is absolutely gorgeous. Need one myself..

Must resist the urge...

That is not Raiden Athrawes.

This guy has a skull and teeth on his kneepads, Raiden doesn't.

This guy has a blazing sword like Raiden but that could be just another power sword. I would rather say that this is a wolve.

My suggestion: the guy in the right corner is Leman. Blazing sword, skulls, a cape and the right shoulder pad seems like it is shaped like a lupine skull as well.

The guy facing Icarion is a wolf lord or a rune priest on who Icarion unleashes his full might... Poor guy. ^^

The person in the left corner. At first it reminded me of Icarion, because of the horn on his shoulder pad. Can't say who he is. A custodian? Maybe. For me it seems that this person is aiming with a pistol.

Maybe the whole scene is just a vision of Icarion who watches himself while fighting the VI.

I'm excited about the solution. :)

*edit*

The guy facing Icarion has a sword shaped like Lemans... Damn... That's really difficult. ^^"

Nice work on the Leviathan. TBH when I first saw the green stuff work, first thought was "why does it have a glove hanging off it?" Glad to see the paint clarifies it.

As for the (fantastic) piece of artwork, is that Dorn or Vulkan on the right hand side? 'Cause the figures kneepads have a draconian shape to them (Vulkan), or possibly outswept wings (Dorn, maaaybe Fulgrim).

That sentence is a ruse to make us think that's a primarch, when that's probably not the case. Who uses a sword, amongst the 20? The Lion, Fulgrim, the Khan, Russ (who is already on the left), Sanguinius, Guilliman, and Magnus. Now, look at this figure's swor. The blade-shape removess Magnus and Fulgrim from the equation, as that's a straight edge, as do the pauldrons shapes.  The guard further disprove the possibility for him to be the Lion or Guilliman, as that's something not found on either gladii nor "knightly" swords. And if it were Sanguinius, a pair of huge wings would have given him away.

So my conclusion is that if that's a primarch, and it might very well not be, it's an unknown Subject Eleven. Some elements of armour make me think of Mikhal's Gwalchavad, but the cape and sword, rather than scarf and tonfas, further my belief that we don't know who that is.

A fun update.

I made some progress on high-lightning and generally finishing up the Leviathan. Here is preview/close up:

She still has a ways to go, but I think this was worth an update.

And, in my free time, I've finally gotten around to finishing something else.

One of my Volta 2.0.

Edit: added the Volta concept art and finished artwork for comparison.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Volta 2.0 compared to the originals, and also compared to the artwork.

Inspirational stuff as always Athrawes, the Leviathan and his little Volta brother look great. There two small things that are bugging me slightly, but admittedly it's probably more personal taste than anything being "wrong" with the models themselves.

No.1 is the absence of the Storm's Eye Legion Symbol on the Leviathan, I just keep thinking it should be there in place of the II numeral or on one of the black shoulders. No.2 is the samurai-esque thigh plates on the Volta, they just seem to make the model feel overly... Thick? Broad? I don't know, they just seem a little out of place to me, maybe it's because it deviates from the concept art beneath that makes it feel unnecessary, I'm not sure, its just a feeling.

Anyone, that's my weird, jumbled, half-formed thoughts on the matter, I hope it's helpful, in some fashion.

I have been running a ten man squad of Volkite Chargers in a dreadclaw to great effect. So I figured, that since my Volta and Leviathan have Volkites, and I've nearly finished them, that I should keep the CHOOM train alive.

I think these show a marked improvement over my first Tactical marines that I painted 2 years ago (found in the first post of the thread)

I'd love to hear what you think of them.

I appreciate all the feedback on the Volta. I certainly agree that the Concept art is cooler, but sadly the conversion that I showcased is really the best my GS skills can achieve. I know you guys aren't a fan but I'm actually very proud of him and his is the standard I will be aiming for when I complete the new Volta squad.

Man Athrawes, your painting skills have so totally improved over the years. Awesome, really good.

Hope I go that way too.

On the Volta: You could at least shave the upper legs down and then add the extra plate, so it won't look too thick anymore.

And about your GS-Skills: Are you kiddin me? They are already good and if you want to improve, do the same as you did on you painting skills. Practise ;) I am looking forward on the next gen of Volta ;)
